In a nutshell La Francesca Resort is a large private area with everything you will need to really relax without any worries. There is a small bar where Italian style breakfast is served every morning together with a minimarket where you can buy all the essentials you may need such as food to cook or even basic things like shampoo. Parking is available with several spots around the resort which made it easy for us to go anywhere from that location to the nearby towns. A pool, private beach and its own restaurant were also features that really made an impression on me. The properties are located along a hill that takes you directly to their private beach. All bungalows are equipped with a small kitchen which is perfect if you want to cook you own meal and save some money (The Cinque Terre area is quite expensive for meals).
The peacefulness , the flowers , the light on the sea from the balcony of our apartment, the walking through the tunnels to the villages: it is all very special. We are very glad with the new matresses and the upgrade of the bathroom. We came here numerous times. The restaurant serves good food and the guy at the bar is very welcoming.
We had seen "La Francesca" three years ago during a walk from Bonassola. We absolutely loved its position on this slope above the sea and decided to stay there for a week during our next trip to Liguria. It was indeed a wonderful week. We had a nice, newly decorated house (# 424) in a perfect position to watch the sea, the rocks, the sunsets, even the snow-capped Maritime Alps to the west. We were pleased with the furniture and the bathroom installations, good new mattresses, beddings and towels. I think part of the controversy around La Francesca is due to a misunderstanding. It's not a 4 star hotel, but a 4 star "villaggio turistico" which means that there is only a basic standard of accomodation, no room service etc. But everything was neat and clean. Contrary to others' experience, heating - which was needed in the evenings and nights! - was included. The only downside was that the complex was practically deserted. It was nice to have silence and peace, but we would have liked to sit in the bar to have a coffee and to buy our provisions in the mini market. So, we were forced to get everything from Bonassola or Levanto. The restaurant was only open on Saturday evenings for the weekend guests. The food was good and the waiters charming. One of them even gave us his lighter, as we had no matches for the gas cooker! All in all, I would recommend this place for nature lovers with a good level of physical fitness. We used to hike in the region and cycle in the tunnels between Framura and Levanto which was what we wanted but to get up another 85 meters from sea level in the evening was an additional cardiac exercise ;-) The views from our balcony and the beautiful little beach were unforgettable. The grounds were lovely with their trees, shrubs, and spring flowers. We will be back!
La Francesca Resort We stayed there for a week this year in September. Everything is great, but it's important to know a few things. It's indicated to take with you toilet paper, soap (you find one in the bathroom, but that's all you get :-) ), and everything you need. There is a small market, but it's not open all day long and prices are a bit higher than in supermarkets... Besides that, you can't find always what you want. Breakfast is the usual Italian one... We considered that's better to have beakfast on the terrace admiring the view. The unit we stayed in had besides the bedroom, kichinette and bathroom (with hairdryer), a small living room with a sofa, table, chairs and a small TV. Table and chairs are also on the terrace. They have a swimming pool, where the access is free. Take with you swimming caps; or you have to buy them from there (from the pool bar). The food in the restaurant "Rosa di Mare" was excellent at fair prices. The personnel from here is friendly. I didn't like that there were no nets on the windows - there were no mosquitos, but there were little lizards... I was afraid of it not to get in. Levanto is accessible by foot through a former railway tunnel in just 20 minutes. It has a private beach, small and intimate. So...enjoy your holiday!
Stayed two nights as a couple. Despite our booking confirmation showing we had booked a detached apartment we were given the keys to one in a block of about eight. So that was a bad start and then the key didn't work. After about fifteen minutes of trying by the receptionist, a cleaner and a handyman, using different keys, they finally managed to get it open and tried to get us to use it after showing us that you had to fiddle about with the key and it would eventually work. Eventually after some discussion they finally admitted that there was no problem with any of the keys as the problem was the lock itself. So they finally agreed to move us to a different apartment which happened to be in the same block. The whole site looks very run down and in need of a major facelift. The so called library and laundry room were in a very sorry state and looked like they hadn't been used or cared for in ages. If you wanted a meal at the restaurant or the pizza place you had to book in advance. The whole resort is on a very steep hillside with limited places to park your car, so if your apartment is near the top of the hill and you want to use the beach be prepared for an arduous trek back home. Do not under any circumstances exit the site through the gate which leads to a lovely cycle/pedestrian path linking Bonassola and Levanto as the area between the gate and the path has been used as a toilet by hundreds of people and is a health hazard. If you want to use the swimming pool which is in lovely condition do not follow the sign posts on the resort road as they send you round in circles. Probably why it is in such good condition.
This is a wonderful location but the resort desperately needs updating. It's stuck in a time warp from the 70's. Terrible decor in the houses with a campsite style kitchen. Very friendly staff. Great views of the Mediterranean within walking distance of Levento.
It' kind of difficult to review this place. So much is wonderful and if they had sold their accommodation as a 2-star campsite I would have given them max. But when you call yourself a resort, even a 4-star one it really falls apart. Let's start with the positive. The location is superb, really great. We had appartment 828 on top of the hillside which gave us magnificent views from the balcony (take a look at the picture) and I can imagine we had one of the best cabins. Spending the evening or early mornings sitting there looking at the view, tranquility... The pool area was nice and large enough. Too bad it closes for "siesta". Also the beach at the bottom of the hill is really nice with crystal clear waters great for snorkeling. It is gravel/stony so bring bathing shoes. Another positive surprise was the walkways between Bonassola and Levanto. It is and old railroad that has been made into a walkway. Nicely paved and illuminated with lots of families and folks walking or biking back and forth to late at night. From the top of the "resort" it took us 40 mins to walk to Levanto and 30 mins to Bonassola. We also liked the tennis, but rental is grossly overpriced. Just way too expensive, so the courts were not much used. Then the downsides. The cabins are really simple, I would say shabby and the worst is that there is no a/c or not even a ceiling fan. This makes nights really hot. We had all windows open all day and even the doors to the balcony open all day but it didn't help much. Except for the fridge the kitchen is nothing to use. The restaurant at the bottom has spectacular views but terrible food and service. There is no change of towels or linens (we stayed a week) strengthening the feeling that this is a campsite not a resort. Wifi is only accessible by the pool,in the bar or at the restaurant. Finally the price for one week here is really not worth it but maybe it is a lack of alternatives as we did a lot of searching in the area without finding anything but hotels. All in all we enjoyed our stay but we were very disappointed by the standard and the service compared to what we had to pay. We will not be back.
The location is ok, the service over all is not and there is much room for improvement for this site. Location: as said, ok/good. Situated on coast side between Bonassola and Levanto. 3 Stars. Restaurant: view from the terrace is great, quality of the food is poor. The only reason for people to be there is because of the voucher (40€ per Apartment, not per Person) you get if you book for more that 5 days. Monday the restaurant is closed and the resident "offer" you a pizza (you pay for it and you must say in advance at what time would you like the pizza to be ready/ slot to be served and which one!!!!!!!!!). Very poor. 1 star Swimming pool: ok, but not really deep 1,50m is the deepest point and very warm water temperature (25/26 C°). 2 stars Accommodation: all in all, even though I do have some comments (cheap furnitures), 3 (very generous) stars Bar/Market: the staff is friendly, but the opening time is not. 8am-12am/6pm-11pm. Normally quite empty due to the lack of extra activities there. 2 Stars Mini market: do yourself a favor... don't go there. 1 star. Outside the bar: Please pay attention to where you sit as the place is full of resin... quite sticky surroundings I would say and that staff is hard to be washed. Wi-Fi: only here and close to the restaurant. Some apartments do not have wifi at all. We were lucky, but others complained about that. Beach/Sea: mmm. What to say... no service at all there. No lifeguard, No Bar/ no nothing. Only some beach chairs and hammocks. In addition two huge stones make the entrance in the water quite difficult. (Absurd that the hammocks are taken away from the staff at 7:30pm (best time to relax) as they fear someone could steal them... ) In short: they claim to be 4stars also according to the Italian standard and bla bla bla, reality is 2 stars max. Restaurant is the worst of all. On the website they mention to reach Bonassola by walking from the coast instead of the tunnel. As soon as you are there, the first thing you hear from the staff is "please don't use that way", "too dangerous". No, I am not going back there.
We were supposed to stay for four nights at La Francesca, but after we got an awful room situated under the reception hall we got really pissed off and asked for a full refund. The ladies at the reception denied us the refund and all we could get was a better room for additional money! That was the only bad experience we had during our 8 days vacation in Tuscany and Liguria and kind of ruined the overall feeling. Getting back to the point, besides the staff being rude and unprofessional, La Francesca is not actually a 4 stars resort. It is a bungalow park. The restaurant has a nice view but it closes at noon - so no lunch for you! If you want a pizza you have to sign up on a list and even decide what kind of a pizza you'll have for dinner! I guess the only way not to be ripped off is not to book anything here until you see the place with your own eyes. Otherwise, the "resort" will keep the money you paid in advance and force some awful room on you. For additional money. Never to return.
Think camping and hiking- lots of hiking- up mountains. Also be prepared to bring in supplies- even food. If you don't have a car it is nearly impossible to purchase groceries in the nearby town. The views are stunning and beautiful hiking trails. The pool is strange- very strange. Very strict rules and odd staff. The employees in the mini mart/ bar were excellent and, quite frankly, made the trip for us. I wouldn't stay there again- just because of the logistics of the location. Again- if you like camping- this place is perfect. Very rustic and not well maintained property.
