Hotel Il Guercino4.0 out of 5.0

Il Guercino is always a nice stay, however I must admit that the excellent standards I used to experience are sometimes missed or not achieved. This time despite having made the reception staff aware of a continuous leak of water from the WC and that the shower drain wasn't working very well, nothing happened.
We stayed in a few hotels during our holiday in Italy and this was definitely our favourite. Friendly and helpful staff, beautiful building and a lovely courtyard to relax in. Our room was just right, air con, comfy bed and a huge shower. Breakfast was served in a lovely decorated room with plenty of choice and the option to sit outside. Bologna is a great place to visit and we would definitely stay here again if we go back.
We had a one night stop over between a train and a plane. Il Guercino is a short walk from the station and a 15-20 minute cab ride to the airport. It is also convenient for public transport into the city for those people not inclined to walk. Our room was very comfortable (although the wallpaper was somewhat bizarre). The hotel serves an excellent breakfast but does not otherwise have a restaurant but there are several nearby. If you are in the mood for a snack, there is a late night convenience store 30 seconds away. Note that a taxi ride to the airport costs €15-18. The bus from the station costs €6 per person. To me, for the convenience, the cab ride gets it.
A 10-minute walk from the train station, Il Guercino is a great place for rail travellers. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Ask them for tips on where to eat locally. Small rooms around a quiet courtyard it shares will local residents. (That's a good thing.) Easy access to Bolognese eating. Try Il Portici, if your wallet can stand it.
Good location for the Bologna Centrale station -about 15 minutes walk. The city centre and piazza maggiore are quite a bit further maybe 25-30 minutes walk. Very helpful staff and the reception seemed to be manned at all hours whilst we were coming and going. The rooms were very clean with good air con which really was essential in July! Great breakfast as well from 7am until 10am. The street and hotel were very quiet at night we didn't encounter any problems. All in all a great little hotel I would very much recommend.
Very nice place to stay. Close to rail central station, is a hotel with personality. The room was clean, there was a minibar available, A/C, TV, and the wi-fi was good enough. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise, as it is in a very beautiful room with much space and everything was in its place. There were also tables outside.
During our recent stay in Bologna we wanted to stay in a place with some personality rather than a chain hotel. This hotel provided good value about 20 minutes walk from Piazza Maggiore in the centre. Rooms are on the smaller side but comfortable and appointed appropriately to the price. The en suite was compact but with a gorgeous rainfall shower which was necessary after exploring in the summer heat. The rooms were air conditioned which enabled sleep at night despite the temperatures during the day being in the high thirties. The bed itself was large and whilst the mattress was hard we always had a good nights sleep and found it suited us. The hotel is a five minute walk from the central station and whilst the area is not in itself beautiful we never felt in danger - in fact there is a fantastic restaurant next door and a local bar that served excellent drinks in a wonderful atmosphere. It is located about two minutes from the Sacre Cuore where the local buses stop. We have found over the years that Italian hotels are not of the same standard as those found elsewhere - particularly in the Far East. In terms of Italy this hotel holds its own and provided accommodation in a more realistic environment compared with a chain hotel - the historical plaques explaining its previous uses being of interest. Breakfast in Italy we usually find to be a disappointing affair - despite the abundance of fresh fruit it is rare to find this offered at breakfast. The breakfast was sufficient to start the day off but not the most spectacular in comparison with elsewhere. However the staff on reception were absolutely fabulous - they were friendly, helpful and a good source of information and assistance - definitely one of the hotel's plus points. In summary if you want a hotel with personality and don't mind a small walk up the main street to the centre then this is worthy of consideration. There is also a choice of local buses located two minutes away that take you to the centre. Tickets can be bought on the bus via the machine for €1.50 per person valid for 75 minutes. Or alternatively walk a little further for an even bigger choice of services. Also worth considering is the trains if you want a day in Modena- we got tickets for approx €8 per person return the day before and went to visit the Enzo Ferrari museum and Modena town centre. A taxi to the hotel from Bologna airport costs between €15 and €20 depending on the traffic and is the easiest way of getting there. The real test - would we stay here again - yes.
Very nice boutique hotel, located close to the railway station Bologna Centrale. Silent and clean hotel with very good service. Staff is very friendly and proffessional. To the Old Town is about 15 minutes walk. Rooms are small but climatic. Recomend !
My wife and I stayed at this hotel in Bologna for 12 nights for our honeymoon and had a very pleasant experience. Upon arrival, the concierge Isabella informed us we could upgrade to a better/bigger room for a price and let us walk around and look at the rooms before deciding. The room was very spacious and was the perfect size for us. There were a few cons to the room: The mattress was very firm and rough, there were a few mold spots in the shower, the shower is relatively tiny, and there was a squashed bug in a corner of the bathroom that was there for our entire trip. Other than these things, the location of the hotel was a definite plus. The hotel is a 4 minute walk away from Bologna Centrale, so traveling to other cities in Italy by train was very easy. The city center of Bologna was also easily accessible by bus. A short one minute walk to the bus stop and then a 7 minute bus ride (4 stops) places you right in front of the Neptune Fountain. Location was everything; we were also able to walk to the city center in about 20 minutes. The hotel served breakfast for free from 7-10 every morning and we definitely made sure to get down there nearly every day we stayed at the hotel. The kitchen staff were very personable and helpful. The front desk staff was also very helpful. While we spoke decent Italian, they all spoke English and didn't hesitate to make reservations for us and give us recommendations when asked. We're very pleased with the hotel and how they treated us. Pros: Customer service, flexibility, and location were the stand-out aspects of this hotel. Cons: The rooms could use a little improvement to make some aspects more comfortable for guests. Also maybe some more detailed cleaning. Location: The best restaurant in Bologna is right next door to this hotel and that's a big plus. Trattoria di Via Serra was fantastic. Also check out Jari.
This is a nice alcove hotel with friendly staff, bright colours and a good price for a family. I would recommend it as close to the train station and a short walk to the city. Very friendly staff and a good range for breakfast.
