It is dingy in the common areas and entry way. The elevators appear old and dirty, the hallways are not appealing. Overall, the place feels very outdated and dirty. My room was clean, it smelled fresh, and the bathroom was pleasant. The room was spacious, and decently furnished. The staff spoke English and were pleasant on the whole. For the price, I expected better and have stayed at other hotels for a lot less that were a lot nicer.

Great location

We chose the Ibis Styles Hauptbahnhof as we had stayed here previously and knew it would be comfortable and a great location. The hotel is right next to the train station so excellent for transport links both external and within Bochum. However, we were never disturbed by the noise of the trains. The breakfast here is variable and enjoyable. Something for all the family. The staff are friendly and helpful and I would definitely choose to stay here again.

central and amazing friendly but in detail^^

to find the hotel parking is a challenge and better have a good protection wax on your car because of plenty doves there :( The room was ok but one window curtain could not be closed completely and we had some "light on" all night. The double bed had a big gap in the middle and the TV refused to be switched off. Worst thing in the morning was some beeping every minute for about 20 seconds from a traffic light. That definitely ended my sleep. Breakfast was ok and personal friendly and helpful.

Simple, clean, and easy

Had a simple and easy stay at Ibis. Room was immaculate. Despite not providing many amenities (pretty much just linens, two towels, and a combo shampoo/body wash in the shower), I enjoyed my stay. Room was quiet and breakfast was perfectly serviceable. WiFi was a bit patchy at times but usually figured itself out quickly. Would stay again if I'm in the area!

Clean and tidy but poor lighting in rooms

The hotel was clean and tidy, as were the rooms, but they were fairly basic as one would expect. The one issue is that the lighting is not very good in the rooms so if you need to work once it is dark, the lighting is not really adequate enough. Other than that, the breakfast was sufficient and the location is excellent.

Hotel conveniently right next to the station. Reception very dated. Rooms average condition, but bed comfortable and sheets clean. Good shower. Being next to the station is convenient - my room on the 2nd floor overlooked the platforms, however the station announcements start at 0615! Not an issue for me as I was up early, but you may want to request a room on the other side. Good breakfast selection of meat, cheese & eggs. Pancake/waffle machine not working. Coffee machine not working, but jugs of filter coffee were provided. Still plenty to eat & drink. Price was average for the area - certainly not a bargain. Fit for purpose hotel and I would stay here again.

Nice hotel with way too much noise

The good... the hotel and my room were very clean, the shower hot, the breakfast was good, and the wifi worked most of the time. The bad... the A/C didn't work. This was likely because it appeared to be a seasonal AC / Aircon system, and it just happened to be very warm in early Spring, so it wasn't switched over yet I'm guessing. This would be fine if you could open your window, but... The ugly... The hotel isn't just near train tracks, it's literally directly against the train platform. That means that every announcement for every train, all night long, is blasted into your room. The windows muffle it somewhat when closed, but not very well. Besides the announcements and of course the trains stopping, there was also a great deal of industrial noise from what sounded like washing machines going, and also you can hear every word spoken by every person above, and to each side of you. There is no sound insulation at all. I've lived and stayed all over the world, this was the most noise I've ever dealt with for a place that I paid for. I used ear plugs and noise canceling headphones to just get a little bit of sleep. The staff seemed nice, the price is right, and it's convenient... but I didn't sleep. So I'd never stay here again.

Great location

We chose this hotel as we had booked to see Starlight Express and were arriving in Bochum by train. The location was perfect (right next to the train station) and it was just a short cab ride (8 euros) to the Starlighthalle. The hotel was clean and spacious, the breakfast was delicious and regularly topped up, and the staff pleasant and welcoming. Easy to walk into Bochum centre for shopping. Although it is next to the train station, you can't hear the trains as the rooms overlook the other side. I would recommend this hotel particularly if visiting Starlight Express. (Which was also awesome by the way!)
