Good to very good hotel by the UK standard. Great bed, clean and great breakfast. Not much negative to say, other than a bit dark, and you can't open any windows, and this give you a feeling of a prison....a good hotel.
Stayed in other hotels in Mailbox before and chose this one last week. Great location again, great facilities, i.e. bar, bistro etc. Funky up to date bedroom. Large enough bathroom to cater for disabled guests. Only downside with bathroom is there is no walk in shower. Great breakfast too! Great hotel in great location!
Saturday afternoon tea. Brasserie was extremely busy and noisy. Food was delicious and plentiful and what we didn’t eat was boxed up to take away. Cocktails were on point. Live music was great and encouraged us to move through to the bar where the table service was left wanting. Overall a great afternoon.
Visited for afternoon tea on Mother’s Day Weekend. The Cocktail Afternoon Tea was lovely with a good selection of hot and cold savouries. (A lovely change from the traditional sandwich). Refilled tea as much as we wanted and the brûlée Cocktail was excellent! Would definitely go back again.
I came here for afternoon tea with friends and was really looking forward to catching up with them. I hadn't expected that the hotel would have a live singer in the restaurant with whom we had to compete to make ourselves heard some of the time (fortunately they took breaks.) The volume of the entertainment was far too loud. Had I wanted to hear someone singing, I would have gone to a concert venue. The service was poor - we waited about 40 minutes for tea and coffee, longer for food and by the time alcoholic drinks turned up, we'd almost forgot that we’d ordered them! When the food did turn up, we only had four of the five afternoon teas that we'd ordered and after asking two people where the fifth was, it turned up about ten minutes later. The food was average. The restaurant itself was comfortable and the staff did apologise for delays. It fell short of my expectations and has ample room for improvement. I would not return.
My friends booked an afternoon tea for my birthday, as afternoon tea lovers we were excited. We arrived at 1.50 for our booking at 2. We were hungry at this point as we didn't eat much in the morning anticipating our meal out. The afternoon tea didn't arrive for another 40 minutes - this I found unacceptable even for a busy Saturday. We had prebooked so I don't understand why it took so long. Also as it was quite busy we saw quite a few afternoon tea which had the smoothie in a cute milk bottle- unfortunately we were spared this cute touch. Ours were in shot glasses which upset us all-we all wanted to take a picture of it for the occasion. Also when we sat down on the table there was a dried liquid stain that hadn't been cleaned which I thought was poor. What should have been a really special experience was spoilt. The burger was great, the bagel however wasn't toasted and was cold. I didn't really like the beetroot wrap which I think should be changed for something. Also they provide a chocolate mousse but no cutlery with which to eat it. It was impossible to get anyone's attention to get some cutlery for the chocolate mouse so we ended up eating it with standard size forks. Then they had the audacity to stick a 6 pound service charge for all of this. I won't be coming back here and I would recommend anyone to avoid afternoon tea here.
Stayed here mid week for business. Quick efficient check in, huge spacious room with comfortable bed and good shower and large TV. Breakfast very good with excellent range of food would definitely stay again
Went to the Mal Maison bar the other weekend and was a good place to have a few drinks. Good atmosphere and decent people there. Staff were good. Had a waiter (think his name was Ben...) serving good cocktails all evening. Quick service too. Would recommend if you’re looking for a place with a good ‘clientel’ of people... if you know what I mean :)
Great location, and great for parking in the basement carpark. Quick, efficient check in. Good large, bright room with all essentials, good large bathroom too .Very warm and very comfortable large bed.The bar downstairs, very busy, good atmosphere- good drink offers 5-8pm and very busy restaurant. Great table service I must say in the bar from a very cheerful girl.
I’m pleased with the high level of service given at this hotel regarding the room size and facilities available. However, I do not appreciate room service walking straight into the room to pop the food and drink ordered on the side. I would much rather be given this at the door. It felt like a major invasion on privacy as my partner was getting dressed. Even if they asked to come in. The decoration throughout the hotel is stunning. I stayed here for my birthday and got two complimentary glasses of champagne which I thought was brilliant. I do believe that I will visit this hotel again in the near future.
