This review is based on a one night stay room only package. We were allocated room 120 at The Stopford annex. On entering the room we instantly could smell damp, the first thing we did was open the window! On inspecting the room damp was evident in one of the corners of the room. You could also smell damp on the bed clothes inc pillows! Yuk! Not what you'd expect for £120 a night. Overall , the room needed a make over. Had we being staying more than the one night, I would have demanded a different room. Will not be returning I'm afraid.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights earlier this week. We were in a classic room in the Stopford Annex on a bed and breakfast basis. The room and bathroom were very spacious and the TV was enormous! The décor and furnishings are very much in keeping with the era of the hotel and the ambience in the main hotel is very much what I would expect from a period 4 star hotel. The breakfast was excellent and the dinner on the one night we ate there was superb. The wine was pricey but probably no more so than other 4 star hotels. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the standard of housekeeping was excellent. We spent a day at Coombe Country Park which is well worth a visit and a day in Stratford Upon Avon, which is really picturesque, quaint and steeped in Shakespearian history. All in all an excellent 3 night break and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Everything is amazing here, the food, the staff. Please bring back the gourmet card. I used to visit a few times a month but without the discount is a bit pricey to eat regularly here. Still highly recommend the steak, so flavoursome and cooked to perfection. Best I've had in this country. Nice selection of wines.

We stayed here for a couple of nights around our nephews wedding. It was the hotel where most of the travelling guests as well as the bride & groom and immediate family were staying. We arrived the day before the wedding as we had just returned from Canada and did not want to travel back to Cornwall only to have to drive back immediately to the Midlands. Check in was a bit vague because they were unable to tell us whether we had a discounted rate for the two nights as part of a large party. We were given our room keys but on entering the room found it already occupied by another couple who were half dressed. We shook off the embarrassment of this and got a new room which was not as accessible as my wife is disabled (which we told them about when we booked) - the room was average but lacked that extra zing that the location deserves. We dined in the restaurant that evening and were disappointed with the menu and the service which was erratic. Breakfast on the day of the wedding was OK but nothing exceptional. On the morning following the wedding we had hoped to have a big family breakfast together but we were spread over 3 different tables not even adjoining each other so that too was disappointing. It's a shame because we had so looked forward to the weekend but found the accommodation a big disappointment which is why I use the word 'pretentious' because it has a big hype because of the history and location but the all round service and hospitality is a let down.

Stayed here for one night in an Exec room. The room was large and comfortable with a lovely bed. Staff were really friendly and even helped me swap some other reservations around without any hint of it being a problem. Well worth a visit.

We stayed here August bank holiday following a trip to Warwick Castle. This is a lovely hotel with very friendly staff. The room was very spacious, even for three. The food in the restaurant was great, although the choose for kids food is limited. We had the fish and chips, beef and lamb and all were divine. The only comment I have is that the bread "carved" at the table is a bit over the top and a tat expensive at £1.75 a slice. Just change this to a basket of bread for a couple of £. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. (The black pudding is a winner.)

Recently stayed at the hotel with my wife, location was perfect as it was close to wedding venue we were attending. Rooms were very clean and cosy, staff were very friendly and attentive. Late nigh sandwiches excellent.

Been staying at this hotel for a number of years, and it has always been very good. The hotel rooms are divided into two areas, some are in the actual hotel itself (you pay a small premium), with the remainder of the rooms in a separate area. Whichever rooms you stay in, they are all spacious, and very comfortable. The Restaurant serves excellent evening meals, with a very good and varied menu. Breakfast time is a real treat, and all cooked fresh to order. However I've saved the best to last, with their biggest asset being their hotel team, both at reception and in their restaurant. A real credit to the hotel and the Macdonald hotel chain.

I have stayed in many Macdonald hotels but this is definitely one of the best the outstanding staff can't do enough to ensure you enjoy your stay. Excellent spacious room in the main building. Only criticism is the water pressure which is quite poor. Very good breakfasts and we also enjoyed one evening meal. Very attentive friendly staff

We decided to take a short overnight break to relax and the drive was slightly more than expected but that was my fault! The staff here were absolutely attentive to Our requirements and especially in the main bar area. Both members of the Team could not have treated my Wife and I and better. Would highly recommend just trying the bar if these two are on. We had a fabulous stay and would recommend this place. Enjoy!
