My basic thoughts are would I stay here again? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Everything about the stay here was awful, apart from the breakfast. The group of 8 I was travelling with arrived late for our four night stay due to late flights, but hey ho - our hotel was booked; 4 TWIN rooms. On arrival at the hotel, the check in was seemless, and organised. Probably becuase they wanted rid of us fromt the reception area. 8 male friends on a stag-do re-run (we are anything but boisterous by-the-way, and are respectful of other guests) went upstairs to the 4 TWIN bedrooms, to find 4 Double Bedrooms. No problem, we can just split the beds? But no. Three of these rooms were not re-configurable, simply a double bed, and not two singles tied together as is sometimes the case. All 8 of us went back downstairs to explain that these rooms were booked months ago, the booking is clearly TWIN rooms, so there must be some mistake. At this point we were simply informed, it's too late to do anything about it, and in anycase, the hotel is fully boooked. Try again in the morning. Morning came, and the predicament was exlpained to the day staff, and they said they'd try and sort it, but the hotel is fully booked. Just how they'd try and sort it while fully booked is a mystery to me. We could perhaps come back during the middle of the day and see if there was some change. None of use were willing, rightly so to spoil our day with a trip back to the hotel, so night time duly came, we returned to the hotel, and surprisingy, or not, there was no change. We still had double rooms. Next morning, we asked again, and we were assured that the room swaps would take place on Day 3. Which they did. But this does not escape the fact that they sell rooms that they are unable to honour; Two of the four nights was spent in rooms with a specification that did not meet our very very advance booking. On arriving in the new room, I proceeded to the shower, turned it on, and was somewhat dumbfounded to see the bath fill up. I looked at the plug hole to see it was completely blocked with hair and soap. Disgusting does not begin to explain it. I moved the hair with the handle of a teaspoon of the room - for the attached photo, and then managed to scoop it in to the toilet. But this was utterly disgusting, and not what I expect from a €432 four night stay. After getting home and reading more reviews, I cannot understand for the life of me how this hotel is fully booked. I for one would never stay here again, I would not recommend it, and I will never stay at any other hotels in this chain.
This hotel is in need of maintenance. The carpets are shabby, the paintwork is chipped and faded. I reported the very slow draining, blocked sink twice in the seven nights I stayed there and nothing was done about it. However, the hotel was reasonably clean, very well located just up the road from U and S Bahn stations and very cheap. Wifi was pretty ordinary in my room, touch and go connection.
The hotel was very nice and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We booked some months ago and when we got there the hotel were overbooked for the type of room we booked so we were upgraded free of charge. Having worked in hotels during my younger days I can honestly say that the staff here are at a level by which the Barr should be set. The room was more than adequate and the bed comfortable if I had any gripes and this is a stretch the alarm clock had an old iPhone connector so was incompatible with my device as mine has the newer lightning connector.
We stayed in this Hotel in February for Fruit Logistica. Firstly the Rates are a Complete Rip-off @ Euro 275.00 per night, because of Fruit Logistica and the Berlin Film Festival. The rooms did not have hot water for the first 2 days, because management turned down the temperature (the maintenance person told us this!!!), our room was near the bar, and the smokers were loud until 2AM outside! Breakfast at this Hotel is terrible, always cold, the coffee is now from a machine with a queue all morning. Do Not Stay Here - It is BAD!!!
This hotel is a relic from the 60s or 70s. As pretty much all recent reviews say, it's desperately in need of updating. I'd go further and say no amount of updating would do the job - it needs replacing. The rooms are too small and awkwardly shaped to be anything other than a compromise and the corridors too dark and dingy with massive old industrial metal fire doors etc. Focusing on what is here, again as most reviews point out it blatantly is not a 4 star hotel on any measure: quality or facilities. It falls between 2 and 3 star. PLUS Points: + genuinely friendly, helpful staff. I've been here 3 days so far and found that universal. Thank you; it makes a huge difference and otherwise this hotel would have got a rating of "poor" + a decent breakfast buffet with a wide range of choices. Not outstanding in terms of quality, but a good 3 star level + free, useable wifi (4 Mbps) everywhere + a good location close to the Zoo station; ideal for West Berlin and easy to get to the centre (4 stops) or east by S Bahn. However the immediate area is quite characterless, there's long term major construction right outside the hotel that's been going on years (along with sewer smells) and the walk from Zoo station takes you past a lot of drunks, homeless people etc. + it's quite cheap for such a central hotel in a capital city MINUS points: - outdated, shabby communal parts and lifts - odd, unlikeable stark white rooms with horrible 80s mirrored walls - tiny bathrooms with dated toilets etc, missing tiles, rough finishing etc - fairly ineffectual air-conditioning and black out curtains - construction outside the hotel, in the bar, and a permanent strong sewerage smell outside the main door Please note I was staying on the upgraded "executive floor". I can't judge how much worse the standard rooms were. SUMMARY - it's not a horrific hotel by any means, but it is badly out of date. If you're not going to spend much time here it's a good value base to go sightseeing around Berlin. I do wish hotels would stop pretending they're 4 star when they'd be lucky to scrape 3 star standard. It raises expectations that just lead to irritation for many.
Everything the website tells you is made out to be this grand 4 star hotel where infact it hardly makes a 2 star and I'm being extremely generous with giving that to them. I found problems in all areas of the hotel except the staff who were very nice and professional, my wife works at the ritz Carlton and she could tell and sympathized with the conditions the staff had to put up with but of course we paid for this and are extremely unsatisfied. I'll break the complaints into 3 parts. Restaurant, lobby, room the restaurants breakfast is average and their dinner is over rated and over priced. The manager from Switzerland comes up to the table too often and makes unnecessary conversation about his personal life and bores you to death and talks about places where to eat meat and pork and I'm a vegan, he tries his best to work a good tip where infact he should give people privacy, it was also my birthday and after my wife requested some sort of a gesture they did not bother to even offer a cake. The lobby constantly dripping water from the roof all over the place I felt unsafe to walk on wet floor and it was like a visit to the Niagra falls. Barman makes you a coffee where a quarter of the cup is coffee and the rest is foam, unacceptable for 5 or so euros. The elevators are dirty and the carpets are always dirty. The room is what destroyed our stay in Berlin. The tv is old the only English channels were CNN and BBC boring !!! The coffee machine did not work !!! The showers water went from freezing to boiling every 7 seconds !!! The curtains were something you would find in a hostel !!! The remote and telephone were dirty and full of dust !!! The room was filled with mirrors very creepy !!! Carpet is old and the room stunk from who knows what !!! The sounds outside the room felt like the place was haunted. I seriously demand my money back or a compensation, my birthday was ruined !!!
But not really a great memorable experience. The room is quite ok, kind of modern, although the bathroom is fat too small and antiquated. The breakfast is quite mediocre- way too many people and just an average buffet, nothing which looks really tasty. The room service was really bad. All in all - it's more a kind of 3* hotel, ok, but only average with every respect. Berlin has lots of places offering you more fun and hospitality. For a weekend with the family I expected more ...
1. The shower goes from hot to cold every 2 seconds. 2. Carpets are dirty 3. Too many mirrors in the room. 4. Coffee machine didn't work. 5. Besides CNN there were no English channels. 6. Room was average as far as cleaness. 7.Restaurant was overated and over priced. Over all good location and friendly staff. You get what you pay for.
Great hotel with really polite staff. Rooms a little pokey but adequate. Breakfast seemed a little pricey but was well worth it for the range of food available. Great location right by train and tram links.
