A return visit to this hotel saw me in a "comfort room" on the second floor, facing onto Bayreuther Strasse. I was a little worried about this but I needn't have been - the street is very quiet at night and not very busy during the day either! The room was spacious and spotlessly clean; good amount of storage space, nice bedlinen with with two good pillows and a firm but comfortable mattress (with matress protector). There was a desk with a flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a table lamp. This table lamp was the main lighting for the room and it was totally inadequate; it looked very stylish in a retro sort of way but the light it gave out was minimal - even when working at the desk, the light was poor! The bedside lights were excellent though, the adjustable lamps gave an excellent light for reading. The bathroom was well lit with all the usual things you require in a bathroom and good quality white towels. However, the shower is positioned over the bath, there were no handles to hold when getting into or out of the bath/shower and the soap dispenser was fixed at quite a high level - fine for showering but difficult to use if you were taking a bath! I found the bath slippery and therefore requested an anti-slip rubber mat from reception, so that I could take showers safely. When I returned to the hotel, the receptionist informed me that housekeeping had no shower mats and they suggested that they could send up extra towels so that I could line the bottom of the bath with them! I find it amazing that in this day and age, a hotel is unable to provide a shower mat and it seemed they were certainly not willing to go out and buy one! I suppose that had I slipped and injured myself, they would have then supplied one of the mats? I declined the offer of the towels and took baths instead. The breakfast buffet was very good with both hot and cold food available; the coffee was freshly ground and dispensed by machines but it was good! The service in the restaurant was very good with items regularly topped up. There was even a proper toaster which made good toast! The staff were all pleasant and friendly. The hotel is in the centre of Berlin, the rooms are quiet and it's only a short walk to the underground station and the major department store; I would love to give them an "Excellent" rating but until they sort out the room lighting and purchase some anti-slip mats for the baths, I'm only rating it as "very good".
The room was tidy and clean. Bed was comfy. 2 beefs......I didn’t like the shower curtain as it kept trying to go down the drain and the shower was very small and there was not any in room coffee. Stayed in room 452 facing the courtyard. View is ok but it was the quiet I enjoyed the most. However, I got the room through Online booking site and I found a room with 50% off! So it made it an epic deal for this location and I won’t complain about a tiny annoying shower for that price. A VERY short 3 minute walk to Wittenbergplatz subway station. TONS of local restaurants, cafe’s and local shops. Bakery and coffee right across the road as well as pubs and local attractions. Tough to beat this location.
Our trip to Berlin was only for one day a private one (to celebrate my 75th Birthday with my German family and friends), most of the time it was a business trip: my wife and I had to give three lectures in that short time of 5 days (at the Mendelssohn-Remise, at the Hochschule for Music Hanns Eisler and at the Musical Instrument Museum)! Therefore it was very important for us to find a quiet and nice hotel in the middle of the city. We were very lucky with the great experience at the Sorat Hotel Ambassabor. Excellent location, friendly staff, wonderful breakfast buffet, clean and friendly room service - a nice bar, too! We were 100% satisfied with this excellent hotel!
The shower in my room did not drain properly, and despite repeated requests to the front desk, this issue was never addressed. I was not able to wash myself properly for the entire stay, so I considered this to be a complaint worthy of some modest compensation. The hotel refused to offer me any kind of refund, and two weeks after my stay they sent a message saying that because the shower was simply slow to drain and not completely clogged, I had no reason to complain. I am posting a photo to show how serious and disgusting the problem was every time I tried to shower. There are many other hotels in this area of Berlin. Go to any one of those instead.
Centrally located hotel on Bayreuther Strasse (two minute walk from Wittenbergplatz U-Bahn station). Rooms are spacious and clean, we had a comfort room on third floor overlooking the street. Ensuite shower room with toiletries, hairdryer, full length mirror. Coffee/tea making facilities in room with free water. Free WiFi (good speeds). Flat screen TV with standard German channels and foreign news channels (if you're from the UK, don't expect BBC and ITV for catching up on the soaps!). Edeka supermarket on the corner for supplies and I would highly recommend Fritz & Co on Wittenbergplatz for currywurst! Rooms do not have air conditioning, the windows do open fully. Easy to get to from SXF/Schonefeld Airport - take the direct train to Zoologischer Garten train station (about 40 minutes) and then one stop on the U2 (towards Pankow) to Wittenbergplatz, cost €3.40 one way (or €7.70 for a day ticket valid from 9am to 3am, make sure you get a ticket that covers ABC zones). Friendly staff, multilingual, bar and restaurant in hotel (didn't use either, breakfast is available for €13 per person from 6.30am). If you're going out late at night, you have to ring the bell to get in the hotel. If you prefer a quieter room, ask for a room at the back. They do have smoking rooms available too, quite rare to find in Berlin hotels. Shop around for the best deals, we found this hotel on an American travel site called Cheap Tickets (similar to Expedia), search online for their official discount codes.
Nice hotel near city center but not really far from the airport. Daily cleaning service. Spacious room a bit old fashion decoration. I liked that we had our own kettle in the room with a variety of tea dags. Really nice breakfast.
Very nice neighbourhood, Wittenbergplatz, to explore Berlin from - very nice cafe and couple of restaurants on the same street and just around the corner a market, U-bahnstation, KaDeWe and more restaurants and kiosks. The sightseeing buss no. 100 has a stop just around the other corner too. We had a twin room in the 7th floor, it was clean and adequate although a bit shabby, but on a very nice price via a booking site. Only downside for us was the wall-to-wall carpet, but it was quite nice and warm on a cold day. On a warm day we left the windows a little open for air-conditioning, since I couldn't find one on the room. There was a small tv also. There's a 24h reception and in the night time the front door was unlocked after buzzing the desk. Baggage could be left to be hold when coming or leaving for 1.50e/bag. We didn't have the breakfast at the hotel. There is the nicest cafe almost across the hotel. Also a local small pub. Would go again.
The standard room was good for living, good sleeping, but the furniture, bathroom and entrance door with its lock are quite old. Maybe there are some renovated rooms, however at right side of 7th floor I didn't see new rooms. Windows was looking at adjacent building's windows - very close. Overall, it's a nice hotel, very good location, quite environment, good breakfast. I liked it very much for short business stay. I'll say it's an excellent "value for money" correspondence. I have arrived at hotel at 10.00 AM, but the receptionist was very kind and let me check-in immediately - without waiting for the check-in time. However, there is a place for improvement. For instance, I had a bottle of mineral water in the room, but at check-out they asked to pay for two bottles. When I said that I had only one bottle - they have corrected the bill. WiFi is not fast enough and sometime disappear. Also the code for WiFi provided at reception could be used only for one device.
The hotel included breakfast and parking which can get expensive. The hotel was hot during our stay and windows only opened so much. But the room was great. Breakfast was very good lots of variety. They were very accommodating for us too.
The staff is not excessively friendly. Everything comes up with an extra cost: breakfast, internet, etc. Bathroom with old fixtures and smelly draining system. Otherwise, there is a nice terrace outside - good place to sip a beer. Close to a subway station.
