Stay at the SORAT if you want to simply put your feet up and enjoy. These guys are the definition of fuss-free. Comfy beds, excellent bathrooms, very clean. The hotel’s location isn’t in the coolest part of town, but it’s very close to a train station, which takes you into the centre in a flash. There’s also a good bakery opposite, a supermarket around the corner, and heaps of shops and restaurants nearby. The hotel is well staffed, friendly and safe. As a solo female traveller, safety is super-important to me, and I always felt extremely safe in and around the SORAT. The breakfast is a bit overpriced, but I guess standard hotel price. I’d suggest popping over to the bakery or supermarket to get better value for money. Then again, if you fancy being in the company of a bunch of other people (which I did some mornings), then go for it.
I was placed in one of the older rooms in need of refurbishment so I wasn’t too pleased as I would have preferred a more modern room with the tea/coffee facilities. Furthermore the noise in the morning was ridiculous and started at 6am so it disturbed my sleep. Beds are comfy and the place is clean. Breakfast is ok but not enough hot food and what was there wasn’t great. Location is great and the train station is so close by, however I wouldn’t return.
Please please avoid the standard rooms. They are old and smelly and in urgent need for extensive renovation. These rooms are of 2 stars standard. Avoid them because other than that the hotel is excellent. The location is unique, but the best part is the personnel. From the reception to the waitress to the cleaning boy, everybody was extremely helpful and kind. The breakfast was very good and reach during weekdays, when the hotel was full, but on Saturday it was almost half of it! No eggs, only one sort of cheese, only one sort of pastries, no fresh juice etc.
We got a room that smelled horrible, avoide room 752! Smells strong of smoke or something. Its a cheap hotel in the citycenter so its what you can expect. We had to uppgrade to get out of the smoke. But rooms are clean and big. Can recomende the uppgrades. We got room 622 and that was nice. A small fridge would be nice.
First of the hotel is in a perfect location. We had no troubles getting two and from all the things we wanted to see. To have a kettle it's €5 a 24hr. We didn't have breakfast there as there is a awesome bakery across the road. Will stay there again deffinetly. The hotel is very clean to. Thanks.
The Sorat hotel was a good compromise between price and location. We got a standard bedroom but it was really clean and had everything we needed, including private bathroom that in Europe is not really common to get it with a reasonable price. The location was perfect. We were near the metro (subway), near restaurants, near cute squares with small food market depending of the day of the week, walking distance of really nice neighborhoods around and some tourist attractions as Aquarium Berlin, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, etc The bedroom was really quiet and good to sleep and we felt safe all the time in the neighborhoods around. The staff was not that friendly but really efficient. The only real issue we found it was the wi-fi. They give us a kind of code we can use for some period then we need to renew all the time when its done and it was really slow. We were using the wifi in the street and the bakery in front, which the internet was faster than the hotel. Grade: Eli = 4, Serge = 4 Recommend: Yeah, we recommend it.
A return visit to this hotel saw me in a "comfort room" on the second floor, facing onto Bayreuther Strasse. I was a little worried about this but I needn't have been - the street is very quiet at night and not very busy during the day either! The room was spacious and spotlessly clean; good amount of storage space, nice bedlinen with with two good pillows and a firm but comfortable mattress (with matress protector). There was a desk with a flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a table lamp. This table lamp was the main lighting for the room and it was totally inadequate; it looked very stylish in a retro sort of way but the light it gave out was minimal - even when working at the desk, the light was poor! The bedside lights were excellent though, the adjustable lamps gave an excellent light for reading. The bathroom was well lit with all the usual things you require in a bathroom and good quality white towels. However, the shower is positioned over the bath, there were no handles to hold when getting into or out of the bath/shower and the soap dispenser was fixed at quite a high level - fine for showering but difficult to use if you were taking a bath! I found the bath slippery and therefore requested an anti-slip rubber mat from reception, so that I could take showers safely. When I returned to the hotel, the receptionist informed me that housekeeping had no shower mats and they suggested that they could send up extra towels so that I could line the bottom of the bath with them! I find it amazing that in this day and age, a hotel is unable to provide a shower mat and it seemed they were certainly not willing to go out and buy one! I suppose that had I slipped and injured myself, they would have then supplied one of the mats? I declined the offer of the towels and took baths instead. The breakfast buffet was very good with both hot and cold food available; the coffee was freshly ground and dispensed by machines but it was good! The service in the restaurant was very good with items regularly topped up. There was even a proper toaster which made good toast! The staff were all pleasant and friendly. The hotel is in the centre of Berlin, the rooms are quiet and it's only a short walk to the underground station and the major department store; I would love to give them an "Excellent" rating but until they sort out the room lighting and purchase some anti-slip mats for the baths, I'm only rating it as "very good".
The room was tidy and clean. Bed was comfy. 2 beefs......I didn’t like the shower curtain as it kept trying to go down the drain and the shower was very small and there was not any in room coffee. Stayed in room 452 facing the courtyard. View is ok but it was the quiet I enjoyed the most. However, I got the room through Online booking site and I found a room with 50% off! So it made it an epic deal for this location and I won’t complain about a tiny annoying shower for that price. A VERY short 3 minute walk to Wittenbergplatz subway station. TONS of local restaurants, cafe’s and local shops. Bakery and coffee right across the road as well as pubs and local attractions. Tough to beat this location.
Our trip to Berlin was only for one day a private one (to celebrate my 75th Birthday with my German family and friends), most of the time it was a business trip: my wife and I had to give three lectures in that short time of 5 days (at the Mendelssohn-Remise, at the Hochschule for Music Hanns Eisler and at the Musical Instrument Museum)! Therefore it was very important for us to find a quiet and nice hotel in the middle of the city. We were very lucky with the great experience at the Sorat Hotel Ambassabor. Excellent location, friendly staff, wonderful breakfast buffet, clean and friendly room service - a nice bar, too! We were 100% satisfied with this excellent hotel!
The shower in my room did not drain properly, and despite repeated requests to the front desk, this issue was never addressed. I was not able to wash myself properly for the entire stay, so I considered this to be a complaint worthy of some modest compensation. The hotel refused to offer me any kind of refund, and two weeks after my stay they sent a message saying that because the shower was simply slow to drain and not completely clogged, I had no reason to complain. I am posting a photo to show how serious and disgusting the problem was every time I tried to shower. There are many other hotels in this area of Berlin. Go to any one of those instead.
