Mercure Hotel Potsdam City4.0 out of 5.0

Perfect location at the film museum and tram station. The hotel is probably the highest building in the city so the views are superb. There is nothing to complain about the service. However, there was some annoying about the car parking. There were two parking places with a barrier and traffic lights. Both of the barriers were folded down, but a traffic light was green and the boom opened. However, there were no vacancies. There was not much to think about, but just finding a public parking a couple of hundred meters away. When I returned to the hotel after a walk in the rain, I examined the parking place with red light and a closed barrier and found out there were plenty of vacancies.
We stayed in many hotels all over the world. But we never experienced this kind of turned away and unfriendly staff. May be that the discussion wether this hotel should stay on its place because it is a statement of the GDR regime or it is a provocation if Potsdam wants to get back to its original appearance what the city stated with the rebuilding of the city palace. The guests are usually not very interested in this discussion. But we had the feeling to be treated like guests of a GDR "Intercity hotel" that wants to remain like this. The rooms are ok, in my opinion too expensive, the food was ok, but the staff is not exceptable. If you always have the feeling to not be welcome, this is not worth 4 stars. The staff was not able to handle the situation at the bar in the evening, in the morning there were not enough places for breakfast and so on. Might be that this is a management problem, but we will not stay again at the Mercure. Sorry guys.
Having booked a Privilage room I has been looking forward to four wonderful days in Potsdam. Unfortunately the hotel did not live up to expectations. First impressions did not bode well, the area outside reception was packed with cars everywhere due to very limited space We were advised to use an underground parkhouse 250 mtrs along the road, this we did once our baggage was unloaded. The Privilage room I had expected to be at least of a reasonable size. Its was small to say the least. Housekeeping had closed the curtains. but turned the airconditioning off, It was plus 30c outside and the sun was right in the room, it was like a sauna. During our stay I asked for the coffee maker to be cleaned as there was a brown residue in the water container, this was never done! During our four nights stay we only ever received one newspaper, we had to request the promised water which should have been replenished daily. Toiletries were not always replaced. The food was good, especially the buffet evening. The location was perfect for visiting Berlin. We had a lovely trip on the water.
Stayed here on business trips, the rooms are nice and well kept. I am not really impressed with the breakfast. What is nice is the fact that you can rent a bike from reception and cycle around. Potsdam is very friendly to cyclists, so give it a try.
The hotel was a little overpriced. Breakfast was to be charged separately, and was way to expensive! Stayed there for less than 12hours, passing through Germany. Came in late, after midnight, hotel staff - reception was greeted and given a nice room.
This hotel is conveniently located, but the wireless is totally inadequate. It is extremely slow and does not support VPN connections. Mercure Hotel Potsdam could improve this and immediately improve their customer satisfaction.
This is a large modern building, with 17 story is probably the tallest in the city (easy to find in the unlikely case you get lost). The service is very polite and efficient, in a sort of traditional way. It has an old style restaurant, not excellent, but OK. A good choice for a business or professional visit to the city. The rooms are large and comfortable, with free WiFi and nice views, one of them to the river Havel nearby. The breakfast buffet is very good.
The Mercure hotel in Potsdam is the only high building in the area, so you will always be able to find it and orientate yourself. It is perfectly located, only a few minutes from the S bahn and tram, so Berlin is easy to reach. The rooms are ok, but nothing special. On the other side, they are very clean. If you don't want to sleep in noisy Berlin, you can get your peaceful sleep here. Beds are also very comfortable. Additional TV channels in English could be added. We were away on the conference every day and it bothered us to come back to a cold room, because cleaning service left the windows slightly open. Probably the best thing in this hotel is the buffet breakfast. It offers a great variety of fresh and tasty food. From muesli, to pastries, bread rolls and fresh orange juice. We were exited to get up in the morning because of the breakfast :)
The bad news first -- there is free WiFi across the hotel. However, this WiFi .... (here you can put a bad word) this WiFi is barely capable to pass enough packets to connect mail client to the server...... Yes, there is a paid option, but did not try it. However, I find it repulsive to try to monetize WiFi in 2017. Note that this is not an Etap of Ibis Budget. This is even not a Novotel. This is a Mercure -- so, the top of the line in the Accor Hotels family... Here, WiFi should be free, fast and ample.... OK, so the mediocre. Room size... OK, so the room was larger than in a typical IBIS, but not much larger... Now the good -- breakfast is excellent. There is large selection and quality is great.
I stayed here on business in December. It is a good hotel, although the rooms are a little small. The staff are super helpful and friendly. I enjoyed the breakfast selection, but did not find the evening meals quite to my tastes. But, they are plenty of restaurants nearby - the centre of town is less than 10 minutes on foot. The great part of being there in December meant there was a Christmas market with some great stuff available. it is also very easy to get to Berlin on public transport.
