I was moved to this hotel due to an overbooking problem at another hotel. I liked the location: nice walk to the center, many restaurants nearby, bus to TXL across the street. Down sides: hotel rooms a bit shabby, squeaky old floors & thin walls. The door of my room kept shaking from the wind or people walking by, which was not conducive to my plan to get some sleep. To top it all off, at 8am, the cleaning lady started vacuuming a nearby room. Overall: I wouldn’t stay here again, but it works for 1 night.
This place is a great base for visiting Berlin. It has an old world charm about it with a beautiful breakfast room and very friendly staff who were only too willing to provide travel advice and sell public transport tickets. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Mine had a bathroom with both a bath and shower. The hotel is close to both U and S-bahn stations making it easy to travel into central Berlin .
Situated in a nice area close to the Tiergardens, old fashioned... No bar or lounge area.. Rooms large and very clean with all facilities... Breakfast room on first floor... Breakfast exceptionally good with a vast range of choice... Staff very helpful...
We arrived to a warm welcome from Stefan and Brigitte but for only one confirmed night. The city was full. We (two older Kiwis) needed three nights. Stefan said leave it to me, we will find something. By the next morning we had our next two nights confirmed. Thank you Stefan. Our room was delightful and kinky with high class graffiti art on the walls. Spotlessly clean. Breakfasts were delicious and varied. Can highly recommend, good value for money.
Hotel Tiergarten was wonderful! I especially loved that there was someone at reception 24/7. The room was small, but very nice and clean. The breakfast was phenomenal, and there was certainly a great variety. Overall a wonderful hotel. It felt very safe and secure. Very nice staff. Highly recommended!
The hotel would benefit from a change of decor and lacked air con. On the plus side it was clean and fairly close to the city centre (we walked from the centre back to the hotel by the river). Breakfast was very good, the room was good with TV (only found one English channel BBCworld news) a safe and a fan. Staff were very pleasant and accomodating.
This hotel is a little dated, but is family run and the owners are very pleasant. Rooms are clean, comfortable and have insulated windows to prevent noise. Bathroom was very modern, clean and well equipped. The reception serves bottled drinks at very reasonable prices, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. However, the best part about this hotel is the breakfast. It's one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in a hotel. You name it, they have it - cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, cakes, cold meats, cheeses bread selection, bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, yoghurts. It's self serve and you can't get as much or as little as you like with a coffee machine and fresh fruit juices. Would recommend this hotel and would stay again. The only thing stopping it getting 5*s is the rooms being a little tired and dated. However, this does bring a certain sort of charm to it.
This is a very old hotel but the rooms are very well appointed and clean. Beds are comfortable and they do a great breakfast. No meeting rooms or bar. Centre of Berlin is only just within walking distance. Would stay here again.
A nice hotel with friendly staff. Room was a little small and bathroom even smaller🤔. Breakfast was good. Located within walking distance from train station. Reception is well managed with all touristic info and also sells Bahn tickets saving you time and effort of buying at the train/bus stations. A coffee machine (€1.50 for a cup) and complimentary fresh fruits every evening are added attractions
I love this hotel! Stayed here for two 9 day periods in April . It's basic, but so welcoming, friendly and so clean! The staff are amazingly nice and will give you all info you need to go anywhere. The breakfast buffet is not to be missed! You won't need to eat until dinner! I recommend learning the public transport system. Its easy and convenient. Buses to everywhere and U-Bahn are so close by. The front desk has BVG tix available, so you only need to validate them on the metro or bus. Bicycles available to rent too. You need to be aware of the bicycle culture of Berlin. Biking is a way of life here. Almost all sidewalks have bike lanes which are for bikes only! Usually red paving. Don't walk in them unless you want to get run down. So if you bike, use them, they're safe! Many nice touches too: umbrellas available for guests' use and always a bowl of fresh fruit by the front desk to help yourself to a snack. Extra pillows and duvets available if you need them. (Which I did, since it was cool and I kept the windows open) The Kleine Tiergarten park across the street was recently fully renovated by the city and is so charming to walk through. Just go right instead of left out the front door for a walk thru the park. Nice paths, lawns and childrens playground. If you go left out the front door, you will be in the general transport hub part of the park which is very busy with everyday life. I took the bus back every evening from my daughter's apt. and always felt safe walking from the bus stop on Turmstrasse back to the hotel. Also, the promenade on the Spree is just around the corner and up 2 blocks and is a beautiful walk (or jog) You can catch a sightseeing boat there easily. The neighborhood by the Spree is full of beautiful Alt-bau (pre-war) apt. buildings. The location of the hotel is in a real Berlin neighborhood, not touristy, so you will get a feel for real everyday life here. Across the street on Turmstrasse is a DM (like a U.S. general drug store) where you can buy absolutely any personal or good quality toilet/cosmetic article at low prices. Plenty of Apothekes (pharmacies) also in the neighborhood if you need Rx's or speciality OTC medicine. This is a good hotel to stay at if you want to be well fed, aren't afraid to use public transportation and want the flavor of real everyday life in Berlin.
