I saw in someone else's review that this was the "best 3 star hotel" they had ever stayed in, and I will second that, but add that I think it is worth 4 stars! We had a double room with modern, fresh decor, very clean, with nice linens on the bed and apparently really good soundproofing as it was blissfully quiet! The breakfast was lovely, definitely value for money (as well as for the convenience of being able to wander down to a nice breakfast when you wake up). I originally chose this hotel for it's excellent location, and it was perfect: for running and walking (or chilling!) in the Tiergarten, for walking/sightseeing around Berlin, for shopping and good restaurants. The tourist bus stops right in front of the hotel (in case you get tired of walking!) and it is a short, easy 10 minute walk to the Zoo Station where you can catch the Express bus to Tegel Airport. We were travelling as tourists, but this hotel is also really well set up and located for business or conferences. We had a great stay, would highly recommend!
Stayed here for 3 nights. This is an interesting hotel dating from the 1950s. The room was not renovated so had an air of the past, which was interesting, but the room was clean and spacious. The location was excellent. The breakfast room was renovated and very nice, the breakfast itself was simple but adequate. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The price was very reasonable. I was happy to have stayed here rather than a bog standard room in a chain hotel.
It's a very cozy hotel, with nice staff and good facilities. I stayed here on 2 occasions, once in a double double room and once in a suite. Both are good. Compared with similar hotels in the US, the European hotel rooms seem a bit smaller and the beds are usually twin size, if not single size. Well, I can sleep on it comfortably. The hotel is very centrally located, with walking distance to many attractions nearby. There are many small restaurants and some shopping locations by the hotel. I'll probably choose it again next time.
This was a lucky find for me. My usual hotels were all very expensive and this one was half the price of the rest I stayed in one of the single rooms which was fine for me. The room was compact but very clean. Very centrally located for 'west' Berlin and the Zoo
The location of the hotel wasn't central to the main attractions in Berlin, but was very close to the zoo and the aquarium, as well as being accessible to tram, bus and the metro. It is about a 25 minute walk to the Brandenburg gate, and 45 minutes to Check Point Charlie, The hotel itself is lovely, with a great reception/bar area. The staff were very friendly, they were actually the first people on our trip to ask how our journey was!! Which was really nice to hear, they were very accommodating and helpful when asking for directions as well. :-) The room was great and spacious and CLEAN! It felt like living in luxury compare to other hotels we had stayed at during our trip. They also gave complimentary water and haribo for the arrival - I am a vegetarian and my friend is Hindu however, so maybe biscuits would have been more inclusive? But it was a really nice touch. It is also located close to shopping and food places, which is perfect after a long day exploring the city to just walk 5 minutes into the local eating place. Overall a fantastic hotel, would definitely come back.
Stayed in Berlin for three nights and looked originally at a hotel I had used twice before but found the cost a little off-putting. Then Sylter Hof came up a a booking site (literally around the corner from where I have stayed before) and a more competitive price. Despite my apprehension at trying something new I booked and was pleased I did. The location is EXCELLENT. Its about 15mins walk from Zoo Garden bus/train station but the 100 stops just outside which will take you to all the major tourist highlights including Brandenburg Gate and the Television Tower. You are also just a 5min walk to the U-Bahn (Wittingbergplatz) and the famous KaDeWe department store, For the gay traveller its about 10mins walk into the gay pubs and bars of the Schoneberg district. I had a single room. It was small - but practical and works for what it is for. Storage of clothes could be a problem if you want 'wardrobe space'. What you get is a hanging rail attached to the wall with half a dozen hangers and a couple of hooks, There is a cupboard and safe in the room. Shower was good, always hots and good pressure but very compact. Also a rather annoying step to get into the bathroom which I almost tripped over a few times. Hairdryer, towels and shower gel provided. Bed was comfortable (perhaps two pillows as standard, but you can get a spare from reception) and maid service was daily. The complimentary bottle of water is a unique touch but I would much rather some basic tea/coffee making facilities instead. I didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on this. I also didn't use the bar but they do have a stock of chilled drinks next to reception which weren't badly priced. Top marks go to the staff. I really wish I had taken the name of the person who checked me in. She was extremely friendly and made me feel very welcome. I had contact with other staff members and they were all approachable and helpful. As a solo traveller I would gladly recommend this hotel for its location and staff friendliness alone, but it is a good value hotel from which to explore Berlin
We were in Berlin for 3 days and I booked online using a booking site, not knowing what to expect. My husband and I (and our in-laws who were in the room next door) were pleasantly surprised. This was a wonderful location with restaurants and the city bus stop right next door. The Zoo was within walking distance as were a number of other attraction. We all agreed if we come back to Berlin, we would stay here again in a heart beat. The staff was multi-lingual and easily communicated in both Germany and English, as well as other languages it seems. Very informative and helpful! The rooms were bigger than most of the rooms we stayed in our trip around Europe, so it was nice to have the extra space for bags and just to stretch out!
Just back from a four day break could not fault this hotel rooms beautiful decor and cleanliness to a high standard buffer breakfast great everything you could think of staff really friendly and helpful this is my second time at this hotel
We stayed here for two nights and we didn't want to leave at all. Lovely spacious room with modern bathroom. We have the suite room and it was perfect. The view from the room was amazing couldn't get enough of it. The bed was comfy with aircon too. The staff were all lovely and couldn't do more to help. The breakfast was lovely definitely worth €11. Great location with the 100 bus right outside to Alexanderplatz and a short walk to the zoo, shops or train station. Would definitely recommend stayed here especially with the great prices!!
Sylter Hof Berlin During my trips to Berlin I have stayed in this Superior 3 stars hotel several times. The hotel has a good location, very near from Kurfurtersdam (the main shopping street in Berlin). The hotel building is not really very pretty, but it has a very good standard for this category, at the reception people are usually polite and efficient and they speak several languages. Rooms are clean, however one or 2 times when booking a single room I have got some small single rooms, but if you do not need big space, it had all the necessary, including a lap top size safe box, otherwise, another time I have got a free upgrade to a suite that was impressive, really spacious and nice. Breakfast is very good and varied for a 3 stars hotel, the personal at the restaurant is nice and the restaurant has been redecorated, so it looks nicer than before and for those people loving espresso coffee, it can be ordered without extra charge during breakfast. Regarding internet, in one of my last stays, I had some problems with the connection to internet from my room, but this time during my stay last week, it seems to be they already solved this, and internet worked fast in the room. If you are travelling by car they have a parking lot that belongs to the hotel for 14 EUR a day and usually reservation in advance is not needed. Nearby the hotel are several restaurants with different kind of food, German, Italian, Argentinian, Vietnamese and others. By bus 100, which has a bus stop beside the hotel, you can reach in 8 – 10 minutes the Brandenburg Gate. It has a bar at the lobby and 2 PC with internet connection at disposal for guests. I definitively consider Sylter Hof as one of the best 3 stars hotels, I have stayed at in this area of Central Europe and I will definitively will come back again.
