Good hotel, clean rooms, always friendly staff. Very good location
This is a great home base hotel for exploring Berlin. From Hotel Sylter Hoff it is easily walk-able to Brandenburg Tor, shopping on Kurfurstendamm, gay bars, U-bahn stations, Tiergarten, etc. There is a great diversity of ethnic restaurants nearby, the Vietnamese restaurant is particularly delicious. There are yummy little food stands in Breitschied Platz just a few blocks away: bratwurst in brotchen, doner kebap, etc. Two Starbucks nearby and lots of bakeries. Bavarium in the Europa Center is over priced. If you're looking for Schnitzel Wiener Art, go to Alt-Berliner Biersalon, sit outside and enjoy. Nearby for breakfast there is Einstein Cafe. Kaiser's (supermarket) is nearby if you want to get some fruit or snacks to carry around in your bag. The staff is highly knowledgeable and speak English very well. Only thing this hotel is lacking is an exercise room.
I stayed in a small single room, but it was nice for my overnight stay waiting to fly home the next day. My favorite part was the soft comforter and pillow, although the mattress was nothing special. The water pressure in the shower was really good. There was no refrigerator in the room. The hotel is near other hotels, restaurants, and bars. It is about 3 blocks from the nearest metro station - very convenient. I happened to stay at 2 other more expensive hotels within the same block. Although the rooms were bigger at those hotels and had a few other amenities that this one did not, I would stay in this one again because of the low price. I was hardly in the room because I went out to explore the city nonstop. Tons of museums and sites to see. The hotel staff were incredibly nice, helpful, and friendly. The only annoying thing was that the "free internet" advertised on this website only applied to the desktop computers in the business center. There was a 5 euro charge for 24-hour wifi, and the instructions for accessing the wifi in the room guide were incorrect. Paying the fee and the room charge was still cheaper than the nearby hotels with free wifi.
