Overall, it was a good stay, but it could have been better.
My room on the 6th floor overlooking Gendarmenmarkt so the view from the room was great.
Hence, I was all the more surprised that the smell from the restaurant managed to permeate my room. It lingered throughout my entire stay. I got used to the smell but for the first two nights was a bit annoying. It's freezing cold outside, so I appreciated how warm my room was, perhaps even a little too warm at times, but it's definitely better than cold. However, without air conditioning, it might be unbearable in the same room, which is quite small. The bathroom was spotlessly clean, and the water pressure was excellent. You only get two complimentary bottles of water per stay. Schade!
I absolutely must mention the restaurant. I ate there 4 times, one time with my friend. The service was friendly, but the food itself left much to be desired. Each breakfast cost €38 plus tip, as it wasn't included in the room rate. I don't understand how they could justify that price. The coffee was from the machine!! Around the corner of the hotel building, there is a Bonanza coffee shop. If you're particular about your coffee, get a decent coffee from Bonanza instead. Due to jet lag, I got up very early, so the hotel restaurant was the only option. Dinner was better, but the menu was quite limited. The pumpkin soup was interesting.
I didn't use the gym, so I can't comment on it. The location is ideal for getting a taxi or public transport.
