This hotel was a bit of a disappointment. The photos were misleading. The hotel itself is more like a hostel with tatty furniture and a dirty entrance hall. It doesn't even look like a hotel from the outside and on the inside the bathroom is below average with a noisy plumbing system, you have to borrow a hairdryer from reception and the curtains don't cover the window nor keep the light out. We were in a 'quiet' room but heard lots of noise from our fellow residents. Unfortunately, we didn't have good night sleep. The saving graces are friendly staff who helped orientate us to the city and the hotel is in a quiet area with a number of easily accessible excellent restaurants and cafes. It's a shame the hotel let's itself down.
I really tried to like it at The Hotel De Ela, because the desk staff was so friendly & accommodating, but 3/4th of the way through my stay, I couldn't stand the dirty, aged feeling of the room any longer, so I booked myself a new hotel. Though we were treated kindly here, this poorly kept hotel looks like it jumped straight out of 1991. The furniture is just horrible looking & old. The beds are hard as rocks & the SHOWERS ARE HORRIBLE. Our 1st room at Hotel De Ela had a broken shower head that spat violently at your waistline & couldn't be adjusted in height. We moved rooms because of this. The 2nd room we were given had a broken water heater. That means, in this MINI shower, you either BOILED or froze. There's no middle ground. Also, the shower was SO tiny, water sprayed EVERYWHERE. I was so grossed out by the whole thing, I couldn't bring myself to shower but 2 times the entire time I was there. I believe in cleanliness & stylishness, this place has neither. Do yourself a favor & spend the few extra euros on a Motel 1 just up the street. THAT place is amazing (the new hotel I am currently in.) Hotel De Ela gets two thumbs down from me. Sorry.
Arrival at the hotel The hotel is inside another building on the corner of a nice street. Going up the wide steps there is a call box and a buzz button for the Hotel De Ela. There is a sign suggesting the hotel is somewhere in the building, but that aside it isn't very obvious it is a hotel. On entrance you go up a flight of stairs and through a door to the right into recetion, again this is a little unclear but there is a hotel sign. The receptionist was friendly and made everything clear to us we needed to know. Note: there is a "city tax" to pay in cash to the hotel, 5% of your total bill on checking in. Important Information The room is simple and small but nice. The shower works and is hot. We asked for 1 double bed, and received two singles pushed together with separate duvets. Internet is fantastic! So fast we can watch clear videos on Netflix. Reception can provide you with adaptors (requires 20€ deposit, returned), a map and additional shower gel or shampoo should you request them. The underground is very very close to the hotel and you can travel all over Berlin for a reasonable price! Good bus links (but we didn't utilise them). The only advice I can give to avoid what many of the negatives reviews show is to check in before the hotel reception closes at 10pm. They say if you inform you will be arriving late before 6pm they will wait for you, and I really hope this is true.
We had a good stay. Nice price and clean. Old towels and the toilet rinsed not good. Curtains too narrow and we missed a card with "not disturb". And I did not know I had to pay a deposit. we didn't understand that because the room was not inspected before we left.
Describe the service you experienced The room was great , spacious airy big and en suite with storage for clothes and suit case very nice decor too The location & amenities were great restaurants supermarket and shops were all right there. I don't think i could fault anything as it was a perfect location and great for public transport too Don't
I came to Berlin for a weekend with my two roommates to celebrate his birthday. The hotel is on a good walking distance to the nearest subway and has very spacious rooms. Ours had a lovely view, you could see the entire street. We decided to stay a day extra and got a great discount! Lovely staff, so a great place to stay!
DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL! they are so rude and disrespectful that is better to SLEEP ON THE SUBWAY! We booked this hotel for my girlfriends parents. Room was held for late arrival with a credit card. Yet when we called at 18 to make sure that is ok to arrive at 23 we were refused that. We had to call them 3 times and argue and convince them that is written in our booking email that is ok to check in till 23, rude guy on the phone finally said ok. We arrived at 22:45 and were refused rooms! The guy that works there was screaming on us in front of our parents. We had to beg him to let us get the room cause we cant throw our parents on the street. It was the worse experience i ever had in any hostel or hotel. If it should be on me i would close the whole thing!
I booked for two days. An email was required if we were to check in after 10pm. I sent an email saying we would be later than 10pm Out of our control, the plane was delayed. We arrived at the hotel after midnight. Place was locked. Called, rang, knocked, emailed, to no avail. We had to find another hotel in the middle of the night, and paid dearly for it. I called them the next morning to check in for our second day, only to be told that our booking had been cancelled, and the room sold - no refunds! The T&C's that I'd read beforehand were very unclear, and there was no reference to there being a window of arrival. When I called and talked to the manager, he was extremely rude and insulting, showing no grace at all. It was extremely upsetting, and even though we were there for both nights, he would not allow us to check in the second day. I was absolutely shocked at the way he treated me on the phone. Disgraceful. We had to buy last minute hotel tickets for two nights elsewhere in the city, and it ended up costing us 4 times more than we originally spent, and almost ruined our holiday. Disputes have been raised with appropriate banks, for fraud. DO NOT STAY HERE
Contacted the hotel to ask if late checking was possible, as our flight would not arrive until later. No response so assumed we could not have the room. As it turns out our bag was stolen at the airport so we spent most of the night with the airport police. Received a very rude and abrupt email the following morning to say we would be charged for the room. I explained the situation and called out the fact that had not bothered to respond to my first mail so I assumed we had no place to stay - no go. Such rudeness and inflexibility we did not need after such a terrible experience. Does not bode well for actually staying with this hotel - AVOID!!!!
We stayed for two nights during our visit to Berlin. The rooms were pretty basic and nothing amazing but clean and tidy. The first night we had an en-suite which was preferred but the second we ha to move to a shared bathroom room. This was no fault of the hotel, Laterooms are normally clear but not on this occasion. The staff were really helpful and offer lots of advice where to go without even having to ask. We were made very welcome and looked after. The hotel is within easy access to the underground an situate in a quiet and pretty area of the city.
