Ellington Hotel Berlin4.0 out of 5.0

The Ellington is located close to the KDW, Gedächtniskirche and Kurfürstendamm. All rooms are in white with brown wood, quite stylish and a perfect example for reductionism . Although the building is from the 1920s it appears to be very modern. All around are black and white photos of Duke Ellington. However, rooms are spartanisch, not cosy. You neither have a desk to work at nor a coffee maker. The TV is quite small. Breakfast is ok. I like the terrace for long evenings outside. It's worth a try if you are looking for a modern place in the middle of Berlin
This is a beautiful, big hotel. Modern yet still retains masses of period features. Ideally situated within Berlin but always a feeling of peace and quiet. Any contact with staff was happy and polite and helpful. There is a beautiful courtyard space which on a sunny day was amazing. Rooms not massive and not small-just right for one and easily two. Clean and although I opted out of daily room service a not was out under my door telling me if I changed my mind contact reception and the room would be cleaned. We felt it was very good value. Would recommend without hesitation. If I return to Berlin I will do my best to stay here again.
While the reviews are mixed on this site of the hotel, I experienced it as perfectly fine. The hotel is large and seems to attract mostly German tourists. It's located in Western Berlin not too far from Ka Wa De, the luxurious department stores. The rooms are reportedly small-- I upgraded to a suite which was the equivalent of a large US room-- with a separate bath/shower and toilet both separated by a half wall (I understand that in some of the simpler rooms the shower is in the middle of the room near the bed). I faced the back (courtyard) which was very quite. Contrary to what I read on line, the breakfast is very good, with a range of cheeses, vegetables, meats, eggs (including an omelette station), breads, juices and coffee/tea. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful as needed, bringing extra towels and soap (though they never brought a luggage rack that I requested, even after calling back to clarify what a "rack'" was). I had toiletries in my room (someone seemed to indicate that they didn't have in their room), though they were fairly basic and not a particularly great brand. Perhaps consider upgrading one level from the very basic room and you will find it larger.
I often have the feeling that when one books a hotel via Bookings.com, Hotels.com and similar, that you get kind of B class rooms that the hotels have selected for this booking purpose. Still, this room I got was very clean, comfortable bed. There was no actual bathroom, the toilet was isolated and the shower in another corner and the sink in yet another. The room was overly simple, almost minimalistic and the windows turning to the main street not very soundproof. The neighbourhood is quite so it was ok. The staff was very helpful and kind. There is a nice restaurant at the hotel and the back garden outdoors is very nice.
The building itself has a history and the current decor updates a classic for the modern age. High ceilings and a crisp white decor feels very light and clean. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. I have to mention that in both of the superior rooms we booked, there is a separate toilet but the shower and basin are right next to the bed with no door. Unusual and fine for couples but be aware if you are travelling with someone who you don't want to see naked! The location is fantastic for access to shops and the Broken Church. There is bike hire onsite and around the corner; there is also a hotel car park and a nice white gym with free weights and 4 pieces of cardio equipment. Sleep quality is good with a range of pillows available. The bar looked great but we found service lacking in that area so only stayed for one drink. Overall, we really felt at home and enjoyed it.
We stayed here this weekend for a 3 night city break. We arrived early and were allowed by the friendly reception staff to check-in early. The bedroom was spacious and modern, and came with a minibar and safe. There were no tea-making facilities which let it down. The shower area is combined with the bedroom, so the room is really only suited for couples! We used the outside bar area every night, which had a pretty good range of cocktails, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. Great value; would definitely recommend staying here - especially because of its central location.
Clean, modern friendly hotel in a great location whether you are gay or straight. Wonderful front desk people, cheerful cleaners, friendly bar staff. Clean and modern room with a comfy bed; sleek design, open concept. A ten minute walk to gay area, and right on a major subway line. I'd go back again in an instant.
Hotel Ellington is a rather new addiction to the increasingly attractive hotel offering in West-Berlin close to Gedächtniskirche. The hotel opened in a very tastefully restored building from the 1930s. Large and nice rooms with sleek and functional design. Great bar close to the lobby with nice inner courtyard. Breakfast halls very noise and almost too functional - remindes more at a train station waiting hall. Breakfast offering o.k. but for this class of hotel and compared to alternatives in the near surrounding slightly below average. Still overall a good choice - especially when taking the central but quiet location, clean rooms and great historic design into account
I stayed here for 2 nights. Megan was most helpful as were all the other staff at the hotel particularly one young man but unfortunately I did not catch his name. The hotel seems very classy and smart but the price was very good. I stayed in a double room on level 4 it was very comfortable and quiet at night. The breakfast was included in my bill and it was outstanding! The location was to my liking because it was close to a subway station and near to the park. Only downside was that it was in West Berlin and many of the attractions I wanted to visit were in East but it still gets 5 stars from me.
Stayed here in April 2017. Excellent location - 200 meters from KaDeWe and UBahn and spot on Kurfürstendamm - the shopping belt in Berlin. Numerous shopping and eating option all around with an amazing transport links to every part of the city. You could walk to Berlin Zoo and most other key attractions. The room was always clean - I loved the very historic entry to the hotel and the grand stairway. The room is basic and small and is great if you are out the whole day exploring the city only to return for a sound sleep. The breakfast is one of the best I have had in Germany, with a fantastic variety of breads, meats etc. The bar is snazzy at night with its own DJ station and a radio station no less. The staff at the reception are super friendly - they helped me getting my room early and did not charge me extra eventhough I was there at 8am. Overall, a great place to stay if you are looking for a budget centrally located yet upmarket hotel - downside being a very basic room.
