Ellington Hotel Berlin4.0 out of 5.0

Stayed at the ellington hotel for a long weekend with a friend the hotel is really friendly service, we had an early flight and check in is not until 14:00 but thankfully we were allowed to check in early at 11:00am. The room we had was strangely structured a separate little room for the toilet but the shower was part of the main room/bedroom leaving little to no privacy for getting in and out of shower. Mini bar is very fairly priced. The breakfast buffet is also lovely, especially the spring rolls 8) but has all the typical foods - full english, continental etc.. The location is very close to the berlin zoo and tourist busses. The bar also serves very yummy cocktails, gym facilities are impressive but the room could probably do with a blind out frosted glass so other guests cant see people sweating their heads off. All in all nice experience.
We visited the Ellington Hotel in Berlin in June for my Birthday. Its about a 10 minute walk from the nearest station which isn't bad at all. The hotel: Cleanliness - The hotel was really well looked after, as soon as you walked in you got this over whelming feeling that you was in a luxury hotel and for the price i paid i was thoroughly impressed. Bar/Lounge - There is an extremely nice bar/longue with access to a garden where you can have a nice evening drink. Prices for drinks were pretty average, a pint of beer and a small glass of wine cost about 10Euros. Rooms - The rooms are very unique, I read about the rooms before I booked the hotel and honestly the description is what led me to book this hotel. The room follows an open floor plan so your shower is 3 steps from your bed and same with your sink and table. I didn't realise how tight of a gap there would be though getting to the bed so that was quite upsetting. Bed was comfy though. Location - Hotel is located 10 minutes away from the station and about 15 minutes away from the Zoo which is a really impressive zoo. There is an off license about 2 minutes away from the hotel. Staff - The staff were very very friendly and spoke fluent English. We requested a iron for our room and was no charge. The lovely guy brought the board and iron up to our room. I would honestly recommend this hotel if its within your price range.
Either crushingly hip or a throwback to a European sanitarium a la all those bette noir/one flew over the cuckoo's nest movies. It tries but ends up feeling like an Ikea impression of what modern design should be. Yes showers and sink in rooms, hard beds, long banquet type seats for an average breakfast and a crowd that looks like a European walking/tour group. Food poor in restaurant, room service and especially breakfast. Feels overall more like a college dorm experience than a nice hotel. I suspect for group tours, old folks or kids just fine but for the more sophisticated traveler try somewhere else. Service is crazy inefficient. Orders incorrect consistently, lack of systems integration between service areas and front desk means you end up having to pay at point of sale rather than billing back to room and a group of servers who look (and act) like European backpackers on a casual job try out. Best avoided in such a great city as Berlin ...unless you like the whole sanitarium/hospital thing. Wi fi sucks too,
Stayed here with my boyfriend while on holiday in June. We had booked the cheapest room type but as we were staying for 5 nights we got upgraded for free upon arrival. The room itself was lovely, nice and white and clean looking. Although, the shower is not hidden at all so if you were sharing with family or a friend you would not have a great deal of privacy- this didn't bother us though. The hotel was quiet when we were there, we didn't hear any other guests, and the traffic on the street wasn't noisy either. The hotel is very close to the KaDeWa (2 min walk) and in the opposite direction Berlin Zoo (10 min walk). There's train stations right next to both these attractions. Most of the things to do in Berlin seem to be in the East, so the hotel is further from these, but due to the stations it does not pose much of an issue. We flew in to Schonfeld airport, and then got the train to the Zooligsher garten train station, and from there we just walked to the hotel, as it only takes 10-15 minutes. The hotel is nearby lots of shops, and the area felt very safe, even walking at night. The streets are well lit and there is always people about. There's a small supermarket on the same street as the hotel and a larger one in the zoo train station. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful too. We did not eat at the restaurant.
Great location, about 5 mins walk to train station. Room is nice and clean, a bit small though. Maybe room wall is thin because we can hear other guests. Breakfast is good. There are lots of food for selection.
We stayed two nights. It's ok but wouldn't have described it as 5 star. Negative points 1) our room overlooked and was overlooked by neighbouring flats and offices and there was no voile/ similar at the window, so we were either 'on show' or in darkness 2) no dressing gowns 3) a late checkout charge of £25 per hour is way steep and irritating.. Minor quibbles: The room was very - brown, but I guess that's because it is primarily a business hotel. Positive points: 1) The rooms are extremely well sound-insulated 2) the staff were appropriately attentive, welcoming and very helpful 3) the quality of the bathroom fitments was noticeably good. It is very close to Tower Bridge and three tube stations so it's very easy to get to the bridge, St Katherine's docks and walk along the south bank ( a bit more of a trek but do'able). I just prefer something a bit more central in more 'buzzy' area - but I guess that's why they do deals on the price.
We enjoyed our stay in this modern, clean and nice hotel. Friendly staff, wide selection of food at breakfast, which was really good. Good location of the hotel, it is easy to walk for example to KaDeWe and Berlin Zoo. Also metro station quite near.
I stayed alone in a superior room for four nights, and my friends shared a deluxe room. My room was spacious, clean and quiet (even though the windows were facing the street), and my rest there was as calm as a baby. All services needed worked well for me, so I actually have nothing negative to say about the hotel. For my needs, it was well located too. I will most definitely stay there again. And for my friends, it already was their third visit at the Ellington- that says enough does it not?
Beautiful hotel. Very well presented. Friendly staff. Excellent location to the city centre. Only downside was the room. Very odd layout. Would have been nice if it was designed a little differently to allow for a little privacy. The pillows were super soft and floppy which I hate. But all part and parcel of holiday stays! If you want to stay somewhere in a great location, this is the one for you.
My first stay at the Ellington and this place nearly ticks all the boxes but some strange omissions leave it just one star short of five. Firstly, on arrival the toilet brush was still sitting in the toilet. Looks like the cleaner must have got distracted, not a big issue though. Secondly no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Perhaps there's no better way to disappoint an Englishman than not giving him the means to have a brew after a long days traveling, and the first time I have come across this in a hotel. That evening I ordered Sardines with a salad. The sardine were served in the tin with the lid slightly open. Although this looked cute as intended, it didn't really work as the sardines were still in their oil, which made the meal feel very greasy. The minimalist approach to the room meant their was no drawer storage, again only a very slight annoyance. The desk did not have a power point near to it, though the open plan bathroom had a bench had an area at the end of it with a chair and power point, though cramped was workable. Again these are just small annoyances, as we're the anchovies missing from the caesar salad. With that all said, this is a very stylish, contemporary boutique hotel, with much interest with its mix of contemporary and Art Deco original design. The rooms are sizeable, light and airy. This very cool hotel is probably best enjoyed by couples on a short break rather than those on extended business trips. The staff are friendly and efficient. I would definitely stay again.
