outdated properly, much-needed touchups also short staffed, only positive thing is location

Location was top notch. However the rooms are a little dated. My room was directly across the gym entrance which had a lot of noise. The room itself smelled damp and moldy and I was unable to open the windows for fresh air as there is a nest of bees right outside the window. Housekeeping made the bends but for both days didn’t even clean the toilet and mirror and didn’t even wipe off the sink.

Great location! Love the neighborhood! and it fits my needs

I liked that this was an adults only hotel. The fitness room and spa facilities were included with the room rate, which was a huge incentive for picking this property. Even after checkout, I had access to the spa until it was time to leave for the airport. On the downside, the room air conditioning wasn't the best. On more than one occasion, I opened the windows to let in cool air. There was no closet space to hang clothes or store luggage, so my bags had to stay out on the floor next to the bed. This wouldn't have been much of a problem, except that floor space was limited. The hot tub in the spa only accommodates 5-6 people at most. The air jet switch wasn't functioning properly; however, when it did work, the jets were weak and only flowed from one side of the tub. The dry and wet saunas were small, and only fit up to 4 people each (maybe 5 in the dry sauna). Fresh towels were available for use, but when they were all gone, no new towels were provided. The spa is a clothing-optional area with glass windows, so after dark surrounding residents can easily see into the spa. One-way or frosted glass would provide more privacy for spa guests. There were two guest elevators for use, and those were the only ways to travel between the floors. All stairwells were for emergency use only. I don't mind elevators, but I find stairs to be more convenient when traveling up and down one floor, or down to the lobby in a hurry. Improvements needed, but I'd visit again

I believe the guy who checked me in also copied my credit card and several charges showed up that were not made by me. These transactions occurred after he asked for a physical card as I have been paying with my Apple Pay.

After visiting the Axel in Buenos Aires I thought the Berlin one had a similar atmosphere. There is no bar at the hotel, and the hotel is dark. Heard from other guests they got better rooms for less than what I paid. It was hard getting cold water and my safe did not work. A little overpriced On the positive side, location was great, room was convenient, and the spa was nice.

I like the vibe. Adults only means an escape from family vacationers. Location is in my favorite part of town accessible to public transportation and an easy walk to great neighborhood spots.

Axel is a very stylish hotel with some remarkable amenities and a great location, especially if you are a gay male (which I am) There are some areas where form does not follow function. But all in all the design and amenities save the day. Bedding is super comfy, though Germans don't use sheets it seems, just a fluffy duvet. The shower was awesome with 5 heads that you control, trying to get the heat setting was a challenge. Towels plush (no wash clothes in Germany either) and terry cloth robes for the spa...The penthouse gym/sauna was well used by well toned gents, clothing optional. Challenges, despite description there was no sound proofing, you can hear voices in the hall, the phone ring, the toliets flush and traffic outside (street wasn't crazy busy). This was probably the least sound proof hotel I have been in. Also no closet and two drawers. There is a clothes rack designed for Nordic gods, if you are short you will need to stand on the chair to get to it. All in all, I was impressed and happy, especially after managing a LGBT resort in Arizona. This place gets it right, upscale and luxurious at an affordable rate. It advertises hetero-friendly, but Orbitz does not make this clear. I picked it because children annoy me, I am glad I did!
