Nice location, friendly staff, OK rooms BUT uncomfy beds and pillows. even though i asked for extra pillows and got them, since they were paper thin it was quite uncomfortable. Same goes for the bed, it is def too soft so if you have some back problems, you will not really get a good nights' sleep. AC is quite weak, we wanted to heat up a little since the room was cold but it wouldnt work so we just left one card in the electricity thing at the entrance so the AC would have the whole day to heat up the room.
The hotel was a standard reception, welcome staff very friendly and polite, Room spacious, big screen, wifi good 8MB up and down. Breakfast was good, bed was fine, pillows too soft. Hotel was clean and big with a lot of rooms. Diner was buffet style and well prepared, gluten-free as well.
Stayed here for 3 nights in March. Great location and good rooms although try and get high floor 8th as functions on all weekend which was not a problem for us. Good bar and adjoining Italian restaurant. Good food and service.Booked as a short break packcage through Trailfinders.
We stayed at the Hotel Angleterre for four nights, and had a good stay. It's well located, just down the road from Checkpoint Charlie on Fredrichstrasse, in the centre of Berlin. There's an underground station almost right outside, plus a number of coffee shops where you can get a cheap breakfast. There's also a small off-licence just next door. The hotel is clean and tidy, and the staff are all very helpful and speak good English. The rooms are a decent size, with a very large television on the wall. First night, we needed more pillows, but a bilingual note to the cleaners sorted that out. We had problems getting the safe to open and close, and eventually gave up on it. We ate in the attached restaurant one night, and it was good, and reasonable priced. We couldn't see any of the 'period features' that are mentioned on their website, but that's hardly a problem. All things considered, this was a good place to stay. Would we go back there? Yes, probably.
This hotel is situated right outside an underground station which made it so easy to get to from the airport. The outside is quite impressive and it's very nice inside. They have a bar and a restaurant which I never used as I was always on the go. The rooms are nice with everything you need, everything was clean and the staff were pleasant. Checkpoint Charlie is less than 2 mins away and you can see most attractions by foot which is what we did as I feel you see more by pounding the streets. If I were to go back to Berlin I'd head straight back to this hotel.
The short phase ' three stars, no frills', sums up this place perfectly. There's nothing to complain about - the rooms are clean and the staff helpful and friendly - just don't expect very much in the way of character or memorability. Its biggest plus point is the location : Checkpoint Charlie is a mere stone's throw away, and all the main tourist points are within walking distance if you're prepared to stretch your legs a tad. There are plenty of eateries and coffee shops within a 1K radius.
Very friendly staff, exellent location near the u-bahn and bus stops and the sights (jewish museum, potsdamer platz and checkpoint charlie). Nice beds and minibar. Supermarket near and the playground around the corner.
If it doesn't feel like a 4-star, it doesn't look like a 4-star and you are not treated as in a 4-star, then it probably isn't a 4-star. The hotel looks outdated and plain ugly. The rooms are not particularly beautiful, either, although they are clean and decently sized. TV channels selection is very poor, especially if you don't speak German (95% of the channels are in German and you cannot switch languages since the remote control is locked down) The price of breakfast is abusive. Location is very convenient. Staff was friendly. An issue with their water service / infrastructure affected all rooms the last night we stayed there (so nobody could shower that night), but they solved it the next morning.
The location is great, price, too. Breakfast and personnel were also very good, but it's unacceptable for a hotel this big not to have anyone on call when there is no hot water. I had just finished training and had to take a cold shower in an already cold weather on my last day before traveling. Also, I repeatedly complained about the fitness room... the room is in the attic, has about 12 sq.m., none of the windows open and the air conditioning does not work (since a couple of months, I found out). Same thing, you people need technicians full-time. I'm sure there is always plenty of work in such a building
We stayed here last week for five nights and occupied a top floor (8 floors but have a lift) in a comfort room. On arrival the room was spotless and smelt nice and fresh. The decor was mainly wood, bit dark but not a problem. The bed was two large singles pushed together, really comfortable with duvets. We asked for two extra pillows and they were brought to us very quickly. Bathroom was again spotless with a hairdryer and shower over the bath, even had under floor heating. Shower was very good, it even had shower gel. In our room, the windows faced into an inner courtyard (no access) so no street view only the rooms opposite. It wasn't a problem for us as we were out all day. Other rooms may be different. We didn't try the breakfast, we used Coffee Point on the corner opposite, but the bar was nice and prices were on par with other bars in Berlin. The hotel is situated about 200m from check point charlie, which is a bit touristy (obviously!) but where the Angleterre is, it was nice and quiet. Freidrickstrasse is a long road and has plenty of designer shops and the usual souvenir shops towards Freidrickstrasse Banhof. There are plenty of restaurants and a few bars. Our favourite bar/restaurant was Treffpunct, Mittlestrasse. Only 8 tables and if you don't mind sharing a table well worth a visit. About a 20 minute walk from the hotel. Second was Maximilian's, a Bavarian restaurant/bar. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly,in fact all the staff were. All in all we had a really nice stay and would definitely stay here again. Be advised that check in is at 3.00 but we left our cases by the reception as we were early, looked secure.
