Impressive from the outside, run down inside. Full of stairs and steps (not for anyone with a handicap). Breakfast was poor (e.g. no dark bread or rolls available). The restaurant's corridor between the tables does not allow 2 people to pass each other without moving sideways. I cannot recommend it. The rooms remindered me of the GDR (althought it always belonged to West Berlin). In all fairness: at least the bathrooms were more modern and acceptable for those who can enter a bath tub without difficulties (elderly and handicapped people will not be at ease there).
It was my first time in Germany and i was hugely pleased with the welcome by Phil at reception (and the other guys) who went out of their way to help and guide me around. The room was so spacious (top floor) and very comfortable, and i especially loved the quirky note inviting me for a free beer in the bar! This i duly undertook as i had an ordeal with lost luggage! Breakfasts were amazing (German bread is incredible to add) and i especially loved the quirky sticky note in the room inviting me for a free beer in the bar :) It was quiet and nicely appointed with a gym and sauna available. The hotel is accessible to many places and i walked everywhere for miles. It was a great stay and certainly will try to get back!
We spent three nights at Hotel Angleterre which was easy to find using public transit from the Berlin Schönefeld Airport – there is a UBahn station very near. The room was a reasonable size, clean and comfortable especially the bed and side chair. The bathroom size and fixtures were good but the slope of the floor was inadequate for the water to drain properly or the drain was not working properly. The room was well decorated with adequate storage, a fridge and safe. The air conditioning worked well. There were adequate outlets for charging our devices and the WiFi was adequate. The location was well situated for public transit and it was easy to walk to all the sites such as Check Point Charlie, the Brandenburg gate, Alexanderplatz, Victory Column, the Reichstag, Potsdamer Platz, Tiergarten Park and Topography of Terror. We did not have the breakfast. Front desk staff was fluent in English, available and very helpful on all occasions. The facility appeared to be well maintained – staff members were observed actively performing maintenance on more than one occasion when we were up and about early in the morning.
The good - nice large room with double and single bed. I was travelling alone however. It had a shower in a bath which I prefer. Quite enjoy a soak after a long day. Breakfast was ok. Thats it, all the good I can think of. The bad. Arrived offered the single receptionist my BA Hotel Voucher - he took it but on leaving I was asked for it again told the gentleman I had already given it in but he said I hadn't. Swift trek back to room with luggage and down bins. Not there. back to reception same argument and then I ask do you need it. Answer is NO!!! why get me to go back and go through the bins! The internet and telecoms connections are awful. I had to leave the hotel to make calls and if I was lucky to get an internet connection it was slow - told staff and they just smiled. There is no coffee or tea making facilities in the room but there is a mini bar. Problem is I don't drink alcohol but do like tea and coffee as and when. There is a safe but it is small and whilst it can take a mini ipad it wont take an 11 inch Macbook. The decor and facilities are out of date. Now you may think that if this was a hotel in the old East Germany then you might accept that even 19 years after the Berlin Wall came down, but this is in the West German area. Can't believe that BA recommend this hotel on their trips. If I cam back to Berlin I will find another hotel for sure.
Gym open earlier would be good and it's a bit dated otherwise good location good price. It was quiet so good sleeps. Breakfast included in price or more affordable would be really good. It's s faff going out for breakfast
A totally OK hotel which doesn't surprise you either positive or negative. Rooms are good, nothing fancy extra but what you expect. Breakfast (which was included) was a pleasant surprise. Lots of nice choices there, however a bit busy and sometimes they run out of large parts of the buffet. The best thing about this hotel is however the location. A couple of hundred meters from check point charlie makes it ideal for any tourists visiting the city. Easy access to historic sight seeing, to tourist buses or why not shopping in the nearby Mall of Berlin. For the price we paid its definitely worth recommending.
We stayed here for our 25th Anniversary, to revisit Berlin after 26 years. Hotel is an ideal location for exploring Berlin by the U-Bahn. Rooms are very comfortable, breakfast is plentiful with good choice, however don't go down before 8.30am midweek as it's extremely busy, we had to go back to our room and go back around 8.45. Wifi is available however it did not work, full signal but no response!! Be prepared to pay a tourist tax direct to the hotel on check out even if you have paid for the hotel in advance, this is apparently throughout Berlin. The bar attached to the hotel we found more expensive than the bar a short walk away, however it was a nice atmosphere. Overall we would recommend the hotel and will visit again.
Nice location, friendly staff, OK rooms BUT uncomfy beds and pillows. even though i asked for extra pillows and got them, since they were paper thin it was quite uncomfortable. Same goes for the bed, it is def too soft so if you have some back problems, you will not really get a good nights' sleep. AC is quite weak, we wanted to heat up a little since the room was cold but it wouldnt work so we just left one card in the electricity thing at the entrance so the AC would have the whole day to heat up the room.
The hotel was a standard reception, welcome staff very friendly and polite, Room spacious, big screen, wifi good 8MB up and down. Breakfast was good, bed was fine, pillows too soft. Hotel was clean and big with a lot of rooms. Diner was buffet style and well prepared, gluten-free as well.
Stayed here for 3 nights in March. Great location and good rooms although try and get high floor 8th as functions on all weekend which was not a problem for us. Good bar and adjoining Italian restaurant. Good food and service.Booked as a short break packcage through Trailfinders.
