This place was fine at first. But as a solo travelers I wanted human interaction an this behemoth of a hostel was too big to provide that. Not sure if all hostels in Berlin are like this but it is disheartening. Then it got worse. They let what seemed to be a homeless guy in my 12 bed room and booyy did he smell. He was also loud and obnoxious. Then it got even worse. They threw all my food out the fridge. There is a rule that if your food is left unmarked it will be thrown out on Monday. HOWEVER. No one informs you of this rule and the warning sign is small and not easy to read. And the worst part? It's far away from a big metro line, so you have to switch at least once to get anywhere...kind of a bummer. Not the best place, not even worth it's cheap price imo.

Nothing speical apart from there 24hr bar. Staff can speak English, but they do ignore English traveller, which can be of parting. It's a large hostel and can be very busy. Breakfast is very very poor and kitchen staff can be rude. But there is a cute we market place 2 mins walk away for breakfast. Location ways , the underground is only a five walk from the hostel and it runs until 1am.. but you could travel up to 30 mins on the underground before reaching any tourist attraction..

Just ended my 6 day stay in Berlin and have had such a great experience staying with Amstel House! The staff team there are all very friendly and helpful and there is lots of flyers and posters in the foyer for anyone looking for things to do. There is a great little kitchen for guests to use but also has a 24hr bar and morning breakfast buffet (6€ for all you can eat/drink). The rooms and facilities are kept very clean but as it's a hostel don't expect a maid service every day. Cleaners come around after someone else has checked out so there's no cleaning in between. I've seen that some other people expect a lot from this place such as things being cleaned every day but it's a hostel so don't expect that. Even as a first time traveler I knew not to expect that.. The area is very safe and there are lots of local cafes, restaurants and bars to keep you busy if you want to stay local. Definitely check out the indoor market hall Arminiusmarkthalle which is on the next block. It's perfect for buying fresh groceries for dinner or for drinks and food from their many themed restaurants and bars.

Definitely the worst hostel I've ever stayed at. When we first arrived we talked to a female receptionist who was confused and did not speak any english so she just shifted us to her colleague to do a check-in instead of her. He wasn't any better either, giving us zero information about getting around or anything important (as it was our first time in Berlin). He was just talking about what we need to pay and leave a deposit for. Also later when we asked for some ice which my boyfriend needed for his shoulder, we had to pay. Which was absurd, as we asked for few cubes of frozen water!! Rooms are small and bathrooms are dirty and most of the toilets are out of order which is unacceptable for a hostel with so much capacity. All together this was a very bad experience.

I stayed here for 5 nights with a friend on a city break in Berlin. The hostel staff are very friendly and helpful and speak very good English. The hostel is not within walking distance of the central sites and areas in Berlin - however it is a five minute walk from the tube station and public transport is very efficient in Berlin so this really wasn’t a problem. The hostel was clean, however there were quite a few ants in our room running about in the floor boards which was a bit off putting. Our only other issue was the noise - we were woken up most nights by people returning from nights out or leaving early in the morning. However, we do realise this is hard to control by the staff and more down to human decency and respect on the part of the guests! The hostel price was good and in keeping with the quality of stay we had. Overall, we had a comfortable stay and overall we were happy with the hostel and how it met our needs for our trip.

Helpful and friendly reception Very safe choice there were many family there good facilities in the room very good prices they offer rooms for females only May be away from city centre but very near to all transportation so its okay

Although the hostel is not exactly centrally located, public transport in Berlin cab get you there from almost anywhere in the city. We stayed at a Twin Room with a shared bathroom for 4 nights. The room was very clean (we were given the bed sheets upon checking in), as well as the shared bathroom. There was not much noise at night and breakfast was more than decent, with a rather wide selection of foods, including vegetarian ones. We were also able to store our luggages for free after having checked out, since we went back at the hostel to pick up our staff and catch out early flight. Minor drawback the fact that we had to pay the whole amount when we arrived, something not stated when we were booking.

I stayed here for three nights in December with my friend, everything in the Hostel is very clean, the receptionists speak english very well and near the Hostel there are many good food local. The House is very quiet and all the guest are educated.

We stayed at the hostel with 5 students from Greece. We had 1 room with private bath, 2 rooms with shared baths. Clean rooms and baths. Receptionists were very helpful and kind. Room doors are very interesting with information about Berlin. Very good breakfast, and the bar is open 24x7. It also has free wifi and a game room. The U-bahn is very close to the hostel, so you can go anywhere in Berlin (20-30 minutes for the main attractions of the city).

Most friendly and helpful receptionist ever, so lovely and great first impression of hostel. The room doors are so amazing, it gives a good small piece of information on every door. Breakfast was good as well commuting from that location was quite easy. I would recommend all the people who are travelling to Berlin must have stay in Amstel Hostel.
