Turned up at reception to find that although they had our reservation they hadn’t allocated a room. After about 30 minutes they found a room and the guy on reception was very apologetic and gave us a coffee. The room was good with two bedrooms, one with bunk beds and the other a double bed and separate toilet and shower. The breakfast was fine. On the last night there were hundreds of school kids staying and it was pretty crazy. Yelling and running around the place slamming doors, called reception at 10.30pm and it stopped for a few minutes and called again at 11.30pm, but it started up again in the morning. At breakfast we could hardly get a seat with hundreds of school kids there. It is generally clean but basic and if you can stay without hundreds of school kids it’s probably alright. Parts of the surrounding area is pretty seedy.
I was here for the Berlin marathon - traveling alone. This was an excellent option for a single traveler. Room was very small, but had both a writing desk and a TV. Bathroom was also small, but looked completely newly-renovated. Both room and bathroom were well-cleaned. Breakfast (optional) was sufficient and not too expensive. The main hall had a bar, and there was even a small beer garden. Now for the negative points: It is 15 minutes walk to Ostbahnhof, and 10 minutes to nearest U-bahn. The area around is somewhat shabby, with no good restaurants nearby. And the reception is understaffed - I was lucky to arrive and check-in early, but all other times there was a long waiting line in front desk. And it was somewhat noisy at night, lots of partying youth, luckily I am a heavy sleeper. I would certainly recommend it for others, and will consider it for my next trip to Berlin. BUT: This is not a family hotel or a place for a romantic weekend. For solo travelers or a group of friends wanting to have a cheap place to stay, it is perfect.
actually this hotel is aimed for young people. Do not wonder entering the small elevator you see 4 maids and 4 bicycles. Actually it's looks like usual cheap students dorm. It's relatively clean. The staff is ready to help. Really. They do try to get extra money from your pockets. The best way to get to this hotel from the City Center(Alexanderplatz) by the tram about 15 minutes to the Stop: "Köpenicker Strasse" then 5 min on foot. If you have some expensive things you can leave them at Reception for 2 Euro. The breakfast is satisfactory. Laundry is about 10 min along the street(4 Euro)
I will start with the good: The rooms were clean the beds well-made and comfortable. The breakfast was satisfying and well cooked while the service was professional and efficient. Unfortunately efficient is probably the best way to describe this hostel so I called the facilities and all that is necessary for the efficient running of a hostel work to the highest standards. However this hostel lacked any personality and as a result I stayed away for as many hours as possible returning only to shower shave sleep and then have as brief a breakfast as possible.
This hotel is in desperate need of some renovation as it looks dire from the outside. The hotel is situated next to a large shanty town which was very off putting especially for a group of 4 girls who had to walk passed it everyday to reach the train station to get into central Berlin! Most people actively avoided walking on the same side as the shanty town as the road on which the hotel is situated is very dark with a lot of derelict buildings on it, we did not feel safe during our time here and would recommend that you stay elsewhere if possible! The rooms were very small with no AC and only a thin curtain to shield the sun light. The room door did not feel very secure and that if enough force was to be excerted someone could easily get into your room. The less said about the beds especially the bunk beds is better and that sleeping on a packing crate would probably be more comfortable. Not a pleasant stay at this hotel at all! If this is what the hotel side is like I dread to think what the hostel side is like.
We stayed here as a family of four for four nights. The hotel was very clean lovely and warm and all the staff were friendly. We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel considering how cheap it was. Really good location for sight seeing and walking distance from train/metro station. Overall we were very happy with this hotel and would definitely return :)
Stayed here for 1 night, basic enough bedroom but rooms are clean. Facilities in reception area are good with decent bar / cafe serving a nice selection of beers. Ideal for groups or school tours. On arrival there were a group drinking beer on the entrance steps to the hotel some people may find this intimidating but was not an issue for us.
Visted the A&O Berlin Hotel/Hostel for a long weekend with a group of friends on a Stag Do. We arrived at 12pm and was told we could not check in till 3pm so we put our bags in the locker room which are priced based on locker sizes. The reception area was large with lobby bar, comfy seats, pool table and table football table. We all had single rooms which were basic with very small bathrooms. The rooms are cleaned everyday but never got fresh towels. The breakfast is buffet style but no hot food, cost 7 euros each. The pub garden area is definitely neglected with cigarette ends everywhere and broken glass; not safe for children. The tables and benches needed repainting aswell. Overall, it's good value for money but very basic.
I stayed here for 5 nights. This hostel's quality is pretty poor compared to other hostels I have stayed at in Berlin. The pictures of the private rooms are deceiving. The double room is definitely not that nice. The bed sheets are thread bare thin and the beds are very uncomfortable. Curtains don't block out any light. The cigarette smoke from people smoking outside the hostel comes in through the windows. The rooms are warm so you have to keep the window open. My friend and I were also covered in itchy bug bites after sleeping here.... The rooms were decently clean and it was nice that they emptied the room's trash cans every day. I liked the 24 hour bar. The pizza and drinks were decent. The elevator normally did not seem to work and I often couldn't get the stairwell doors to open with the key card. They ended up just keeping the doors propped open. Don't pay the 12 euro to park in the garage. Parking is free all around the block. I would not stay here again. Do not be tempted by the low price. It is worth staying somewhere else and paying more.
The place is messy and smells wired in the aisles. The room is clean but very small specially the bathroom. Breakfast is done with the cheapest products of supermarket. You can buy better coffee and a better sandwich for €7. Location is not ideal. I wouldn't return.
