Unlike the previous review for today's date I have now been here twice with large school groups and found it convenient and clean. The food is varied with something for everyone unless you eat so badly at home that are incapable of selecting from cereals, toast, rolls, fruit, cold meats etc at breakfast or again a variety of salads, vegetables, pasta, meat dish for dinner. The rooms were clean, basic and great value for money. My only criticism would be that the bar staff were not that friendly and on occasions the main reception could have been staffed slightly better. Only a few minutes walk from the underground.
The food ia comparable to a donkey's prostate infected with gonorrhoea, the walls were decorated with bug caracas, the stains which we believe to tell ourselves is spilt tea but probably aren't, the OTHER stains are potentially from the milk, there is a yummy array of diseases on the plates, the vending machine that wanted to feed its self with our money rather than us, the layer of grime on the plates was thicker than the walls, so much blood came up from the toilets we were questioning your motives, there were more moth bitten holes in the sheets than key machines that worked and despite all of this, we would gladly come again if you call pest control on the sexual preditors in the lobby, danke.
The rooms are clean and comfortable..its proximity to the main station also makes it quite a convenient choice. However, at night there was too much noise it was impossible to have a good night's sleep! Also, the security guy who was patrolling our floor was quite rude to say the least. The management should improve on the service. Other than that, it is a good hostel, though I would recommend as a last resort.
We´ve been back since the last staying in this hostel was great. And again, everything was great and they have even improved in some points! The main entrance/reception is renewed, with a nice bar and entertainment area together. The rooms remains very comfy, clean and safe! We´ll comeback when travelling back to Berlin.
I got a dorm on Easter Monday. It cost me 30 euros for a female dorm room with 6 beds. They said it was more expensive than advertised online and around the area because of the high demand owing to the holidays. Nobody showed up the entire night in the room so I guess they lied? Rooms, however, are very clean. Love the location.
My daughter stayed at this hostel on a school trip last week, she was in a 6 bed room for 5 nights, on the 2nd night whilst they were out to dinner their room was broken into, there clothes were tossed out of their cases and some small valuables were taken! There are so called "security guards" that patrol the hallways for noise patrol, but their behaviour towards the girls on two occasions was disgusting, they quite literally barged into the girls rooms twice late at night, the girls are 16 and were in their night wear (on the first occasion knocking one of the hinges off) telling them to turn off their lights and they didn't leave until the girls screamed for them to leave, following those incidences the girls could not sleep and had to barricade the door with their suitcases! There are no locked doors and anyone is able to walk into this Hostel at anytime whether they are staying here or not. We will be taken legal action against the hostel and the tour company! Please do not stay here!
I was in Berlin for business reasons; short notice booking, not many choices left. As the a&o was located perfectly for me, I booked a single room. The price is pretty much equivalent to what Motel One costs, so I expected it to be at least a little comparable. It is not. The place is a hostel and stays a hostel. For pupils and students. The decent single or double rooms are so much overpriced, it's rodiculous. Besides, the place desperately needs a renovation and modernisation.
Stayed in a girls dorm which was mainly clean. Towels and bed sheets were cheap and clean. Hostel is in a really easy location, the U-Bahn is only a few minutes walk down the road. The staff are pretty unhelpful. We packed our luggage into a locker in the lobby only to come back later in the day to find the lockers had been removed. Had to queue for ages in the lobby, which was understaffed the entire time we were there, to get our bags back. Receptionist told us to use other lockers and seemed uninterested when I said we'd paid for the locker already until the next morning. Had a real battle getting the money back - wasn't too bothered about the money but it was more the principle of it. There were no signs on the lockers saying they were being removed or not to be used. The receptionists attitude was that it was nothing to do with the hostel and the lockers didn't belong to them. Such a weird arrangement and not really a good enough argument if they are advertised on your website! They then moved a man into the dorm, who had already had to move once, and then had to move again after realising it should be a girl's only dorm. Poor guy had to move again. Staff just seemed like they weren't really interested in dealing with anything. I would stay here again but only if I needed to be in this area. There are better hostels around.
Quite central, a 5 minute walk to a tube station, helpful staff and clean rooms. We did, however, seem to stay at the same time as every school group in Europe. The walls are thin so sleep became very difficult. Whilst staff tried to help, as soon as they disappeared the noise and room hoping started up again 😡. I leave Berlin with great daytime memories but with sleep deprivation. Be careful if you book here!!!!
We've not long come back from A&O Berlin Mitte, from a university trip. The facilities at the hostel were pretty good, and above par. The staff were very friendly and were able to communicate really well in English... which was a relief. The room was neat and tidy and there isn't much I can fault about the breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.
