A&O Berlin am Zoo

While the hotel is very conveniently located right next to Bahnhof Zoo right in the heart of the city my room directly faced the heavily used rail tracks. The rooms are NOISY so bring earplugs.

I thought this place would be an actual hotel but its a hostel. the room that i booked for three people actually had 6 beds. we were told we paid more so that we had the rooms to ourselves. I would have perferred that it were an actual hotel. . .since the name of the property said hotel.

Thought I was getting a double room (as per the pictures) but was given a room with THREE bunk beds, one of which blocked the wardrobe. Put food in the fridge in the communal kitchen and removed it, as requested on the sign, by Monday morning - put it back on Monday afternoon and the fridge was then cleaned and everything thrown away. Management seemed as if they couldn't care less.

OK if you're in a pinch or on a very tight budget

I stayed one night because every other hotel in Berlin was sold out due to Fashion Week Berlin. The rate for the night I stayed was about 42 Euros (2.5 Euros extra if you use a credit card), which was a fair price for this room in Berlin. But had I stayed another night the rate would have jumped to 85 Euros which would have been outrageous. The property serves as both a youth hostel and a hotel, the difference being that the "hotel" rooms are VERY small with private closet-sized shower/WCs and hostel rooms accommodate 6 people who share a dormitory type shower/WC. As all common areas of the property are shared, expect an ambiance of being a chaperone for a high school group or living in first year college dormitory. The sound of loud music and screaming teenage girls is inescapable everywhere, but seemed to get completely quiet by 1 AM. The hotel/hostel lobby is on the second level above several sex shops, shabby eateries, and souvenir shops (all very typical of the areas which surround most European train stations) and the location is adjacent to the Zoobahnhof station, which is good and bad. The "bad" is that the surrounding square is rather seedy (though not seemingly dangerous) and loud from both street noise and from the trains which traveled all night on the tracks literally just a few meters away from my room. The "good" about the location is that you are at the hub of many major bus lines and a major S-Bahn station, so you have quick and direct access to most of the major tourist attractions and the X-9 express bus to/from Tegel airport is just outside your door. Also, the propertyt is just steps away from the zoo, aquarium, and heart of the Kurfurstendamm. Plentiful Internet terminals (priced fairly) are located in the lobby, and WiFi is available in all rooms for 5 Euros for 24 hours (very fairly priced for Berlin). Breakfast might be included for some rates; it was not for mine, and so cost 6 Euros for a cold buffet of cereals, juices, cold meats, etc. - again a very fair price for Berlin. Would I stay there again? Only as a place to rest upon arrival for one night or as I did for a place close to public transportation to Tegel Airport the night before I left. Otherwise, if you don't mind the noise up until 1AM and just need a clean, cheap place to stay (and if you get the rate for 45 Euros or less), you might be satisfied.

Just know what to Expect

The location is fantastic. Just walk out of the Zoological Gardens ubahn,sbahn and bus station, and you see it on the other side of the street. There is an escalator up from the street to the reception, and stairs down. You can't beat the location for the price. It's only a short walk to the Kaiser Church and the Ka-De-We. The famous Berlin zoo is adjacent to the station. Other reviews are correct about this being more Hostel than Hotel. We stayed on the fourth floor, toward the communal showers (we had a private one in our room). Our window looked out over a noisy railroad, with infrequent, but constant trains passing all night. It didn't bother me, but my wife complained. Down the hall, even during March, there were rooms full of teenagers. The noise in the hallway was frequent enough to let you know what type of hotel this was. It didn't seem to last past midnight, however. A benefit of being in a Hostel type hotel, is the availability of inexpensive services. They have an internet-connected phone service in the lobby with which they charge a minimal amount for calls anywhere in the world. Internet wi-fi for a week was 30 Euros. The bar in the lobby has cheap drinks. We never tried the 6 Euro breakfast buffet. The staff was young, friendly, and very willing to help with advice, etc. The Zoo station has direct buses to Tegal airport, and is a backbone station for the S-bahn. We took a direct S-bahn to Pottsdam during our stay, and the main train station, Berlin Hauptbahnhof is just a couple of stops away on the frequent S-bahn lines.

Ligger godt, men meget mere Hostel end Hotel

Vi var noget overraskede over det meget primitive værelse, som lige så godt kunne have været et mandskabsrum på en kaserne. Badeværelset var imidlertid ret nyt og absolut ok. Det havde dog været rart med varmt vand i hanerne, hvilket der kun var den første dag. Hotellet ligger godt i forhold til offentligt transport, ZOO og Tiergarten og er meget billigt.

Super Lage, sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverh., laut

Gebuchtes Zimmer: 2 Personen Zimmer mit 2 Einzelbetten (eigene Dusche und WC). Lage sehr zentral, direkt neben der S-Bahn/U-Bahn Station. Somit alles sehr gut erreichbar, auch zu Fuß. Direkt um die Ecke ist ein Supermarkt, der auch Sonntags geöffnet ist. Aber durch die Lage insgesamt auch sehr laut im Hotel (direkt neben den S-Bahn Schienen, unser Zimmer war ca. 10m Luftlinie von den Schienen entfernt!). Mit Ohropax aber durchaus ertragbar, und somit überwiegt für mich der Vorteil der zentralen Lage. Das Zimmer hatte ein Klappbares Fenster in knapp 2m Höhe (also rausschauen kann man nicht, aber man würde eh nur auf die Bahngleise schauen, also zum Lüften ausreichend). Das Zimmer war klein und mit alten, teilweise wackeligen Möbeln eingerichtet. Im Vergleich zu anderen Hotels vergleichbar sauber (selbst teure Hotels sind nicht immer blitzblank geputzt!), aber leichte Stockflecken in der Dusche. Nur ein Handtuchhalter obwohl 2-Bett-Zimmer. Das alles ist aber hinnehmbar, wenn man das Zimmer wirklich nur zum Schlafen nutzt und sich den Preis für teurere Hotel, deren Ausstattung man nachts beim Schlafen eh nicht sehen kann, sparen möchte. Fazit: denke besonders für Junge Leute, die sich in erster Linie tagsüber Berlin anschauen möchten, und nachts lediglich ein Bett zum Schlafen suchen, und dabei sparen wollen, eine optimale Unterkunft in 1a Lage zu allen Sehenswürdigkeiten. Aber Ohropax mitnehmen, kein Scherz!

Sommer hotel

Hotellet ligger rigtigt godt i forhold til seværdigheder og transport som tog og bus. Der er rigeligt med spisesteder rundt om hotellet. Shopping gader går i alle retninger fra hotellet. Desværre er vedligeholdenes af hotellet meget ringe. Vinduerne på værelset var ikke til at lukke. En meget kold oplevelse i december. Der manglede gardiner. Og lyset var mere beregnet til en gymnastiksal. Men det er billigt, ligger meget centralt, og man har da et sted at bo. Vi kommer dog ikke tilbage.

Bodde 2 nätter själv på hotellet. En enkelrum superfräsch toalett. Sängen ok. Rummet var rent. Hotellet ligger bredvid stationen Zoologister Garden som är både tunnelbanestation och regionaltåget åker där. Många affärer runtomkring. skulle man vilja åka till stan är det lätt att ta sig dit med tunnelbanan.

Hotellet var mest et hostel. Personalet var rigtig servicemindede og morgenmaden var ok. Værelset havde det, man skulle bruge, men absolut ikke luksuriøst. Ligger lige over for Zoologischer Garten station, hvor både S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Regional Zug og busser kører.

God placering til prisen

Absolut mere et hostel/vandrerhjem end et hotel men helt OK til prisen. Ikke for personer som foretrækker at sove mørkt og i meget rolige omgivelser, da ingen af delene kunne lade sig gøre, hvor vi sov. Det er backpacker standard, men mange forskellige typer bruger det. VH MVM

A&O hotel Berlin am Zoo

Dit hotel is echt het ergste wat ik ooit heb meegemaakt en ik heb al heel wat gereisd over de wereld. A&O staat voor Afschuwelijk en Onder de mate. We hadden dit geboekt omdat het best goedkoop was, maar als we nu terugdenken, was dit de grootste fout. Je kunt beter een straat verderop zitten, daar zitten de goede hotels, betaal je wel meer, maar dan slaap je ook op een goed bed. Wij hebben heel veel geluidsoverlast gehad van de buren en de buitenomgeving. Dit hotel verdient niet de naam hotel maar alleen hostel, zo verwar je de klanten ook niet. Absoluut geen aanrader. Enige voordeel was dat het goed te bereiken was met de metro en trein.

В принципе все нормально, но учтите, что отель расположен в молодежном квартальчике и там все достаточно демократично. По соседству шаверма, бигмаки. Из окон железная дорога S-ban. Но это удобно. Но в принципе номер чистый и вцелом гостиница стоит своих денег.

Dissapointing...

The curtains were not long enough so sun light would come in the room in the morning and it was impossible to walk around in the room not fully clothed. Futhermore the hotel hot iron didn't work.

Witam.Moze napisze to tak w kilku slowach.Chotel polozony w naprawde super miejscu (centrum miasta).W recepcji przywitano mnie naprawde milo i z usmiechem na ustach.Juz dislownie po 5 minutkach bylem w zarezerwowanym pokoiku.Pokoik sredniej wielkosci,ale czysciutki i wrecz pachnacy! Lazienka WOW! W lepszych hotelach widzialem gorsze lazienki.Tutaj lazienka byla naprawde jak zupelnie nowa (a moze wlasnie taka byla).Idealnie czysto i estetycznie! Az milo! No jedyny drobny mankamencik to nie domykajace sie okno w pokoju ,ale nie przeszkadzalo mi to az tak bardzo.Jednym slowem,nappewno nie raz odwiedze ten hotel! Jestem zadowolony z pobyty w nim. Dziekuje i do zobaczenia mam nadzieje niebawem. Greg
