A very disappointing hotel. The bed rooms need to be redecorated, the corridors have badly stained carpets. The furniture is 3 star at best. Reception is understaffed and customers have no where to sit while waiting for service. The hot breakfast is poor. Reception staff are very helpful, but are completely over worked.
The room I stayed was extremely noisy outside. People screaming at bar surrounding hotel. Poor soundproofing of windows. On top of that (1) manager forgot to call me for scheduled wake-up call and (2) management never addressed my complaints in their customer care after my stay. I advise NOT to stay there.
Amazing breakfast. Very well decorated hotel. Friendly staff. No working lobby bar at 10 PM. No private parcking, but paid parking at 30 meters. Disadvantage - toting the luggage. Only 10 min by foot to funicolare and old city.
This was our 3rd stay at this hotel. The conclusion of our stay, as I titled the review. The location still great, but....whatever service opinion was earned by hardworking, knowledgeable staff (I guess from previous generation) now is being lost by rude, arrogant younger staff. Find new people for reception, who wouldn't say to guest's question (about Bergamo) "I don't know".
Stayed here during the 2017 Italian Grand Prix (and got the train from Bergamo to Monza all weekend). The location for us was ideal (less than 5 minutes to the train station and about 10 minute walk to the funicular to the old town). Even though we weren't in the heart of the city there were many lovely restaurants at our doorstep to try. The staff were polite, friendly and very helpful. We had a standard twin room overlooking the main road and much to our surprise we could hardly hear the traffic. Air con was a huge plus at the time of the year we stayed! The hotel was what was to be expected but the common hotel facilities eg the bar and common areas could have been more spacious (maybe that comes with the older building). Overall great stay and value, will definitely be coming back here for the Grand Prix next year!
Mercure is fairly close to the Bergamo old town - roughly 15 minutes by foot to the Funiculario going through some hip areas of the new town e.g. Piazza Matteotti. Also, if you leave by car early in the morning you can be at the BGY airport in about 10 minutes. Staff is helpful and welcoming, the trouble though is that (at least in my room on the 3rd floor) the furniture looked like it hadn't been refreshed/changed in more than a decade. The walls were painted a cringing "bleu marin" 80's style with multiple patches "fixed" in a slightly different nuance. Last serious paint work in this room was probably done when George W Bush was still president... The bathroom - while clean - was showing signs of degradation, a thing I wasn't expecting to see in a Mercure hotel (so far my experience with this chain was positive). To give you an example, the grout between bathroom floor tiles was almost black from wear and tear. How hard can it be to refresh it? Anyway, if you're on a short business trip and the price is right maybe it's worth a shot, otherwise I can't recommend this hotel. Too bad for the brand, I'm still a fan - hopefully the experience is different in other locations.
I don't understand all the negative nit picking comments about this hotel. We have stayed here on three occasions and always found everything perfect. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. If people are complaining about the breakfast I think they need to go elsewhere. There is a huge choice, all fresh and constantly replenished. The coffee is lovely and Staff run off their feet but cheerful and accommodating. Brenda in particular looked after us extremely well and nothing was a bother for her and all the others. Our room was cool, clean and comfortable with lovely linen and pillows. Our complimentary drinks fridge was replenished each day, this was a lovely touch and much appreciated as it was so hot outside. Overal, we don't think it could have been any better and will definitely stay again if we are fortunate enough to visit this beautiful city once more.
The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful, the room was comfortable and cool (with outside temperatures up to 38deg C.) The location was good with historical, religious and cultural sites and restaurants within easy distance. The hotel only serves breakfast but with the excellent Vox restaurant just round the corner and several others close by it is not a problem.
The location of the hotel is very good. Rooms are ok, furniture and plumbing are old, but planning and arrangement are good enough. But I was disappointed with breakfast. It is ok, but not for mercury with 4 stars. I stayed in different Mercury hotels, and I can say that this breakfast can be in Ibis, but not here. And I was not satisfied with open hours of the bar, we couldn't get there
Stayed here as we had a connecting flight back to Belfast the following day after 3 nights at Lake Garda. Hotel staff extremely helpful and managed to check into our room early. Very pleasant and modern reception area, however the room we had was seemed to be very dark and painted a very dark blue. other than this and that was not really a huge issue, everything else about the hotel was fantastic, very clean room and excellent aircon as we had already been roasted for 3 days at lake garda with temperatures above 30 degrees, however the aircon made it so much more bearable :) Unfortunately as this was just a quick stop off and early check out we did not use the full facilities that the hotel had to offer however if we are again back in the area for 1 night or a longer stay we would have no hesitation with staying here again.
