It was centrally located. We had no problem getting there from the Barcelona international airport. We took the airport bus (40 min) and got off at the last stop at Plaça Catalunya. The hotel was a mere 2 mins across the road. It was also a walk away from the shopping street and near to the meeting point of our tour meeting place. The room was clean and new. We were given the option of a room upgrade at Euro 15 a day. Which worked out well as they gave us early check in as we arrived at 10am. Excellent crew, helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Barcelona.

I had a two-night turn round between connecting flights in and out of Barcelona. My priority was to book hotel accommodation within walking distance of the airport bus terminal in Plaça de Catalunya, directly in front of the El Corte Ingles department store. My search identified this Room Mate property tucked in behind an entrance to the store and in the same block. The location was perfect. My room was sound-proofed against the hustle and bustle of the street outside, and whilst the bed itself was comfortable the design of the room was, I found, utilitarian with a pod structure at the foot of the bed for sitting, eating and drinking but sat on moulded plastic without any soft furnishings. With such a short stay I only encountered staff on the reception. They were perfectly pleasant and helpful. This hotel did what I wanted - a comfortable bed for two nights with a decent shower a stone's throw for the airport bus stop. Would I return? Truthfully, most likely not. I thought it was very over-priced compared to what was provided, and given the location I think breakfast should have automatically been included in the room rate, not an optional extra.

We stayed at Room Mate Pau during a five night trip to Barcelona. The hotel was great, quite quirky but we loved it. All of the staff that we came across were pleasant and efficient. The best thing about the hotel is the location, it is situated just a few hundred metres from Plaça de Catalunya and La Rambla, right at the heart of the city. And there are metro stations within just a few hundred metres walk, making it super easy to get around the city.

I arrived several hours prior to check-in time and smack in the middle of the check-out rush. I had planned to meet up with my partner (who was flying into Barcelona from Cairo) and we had chosen the Pau because of its proximity to the Rambla and the Gran Teatre del Liceu specifically, where we would be attending a performance of "Tristan and Isolde". We had booked a regular room, requesting nothing special so long as it was on one of the higher floors. On a whim, I inquired whether it might be possible to upgrade to a better room. It turned out that I'd incurred very few expenses in Paris (my previous destination, where I was visiting my sister) so I had extra Euros and, to my great satisfaction, the extremely friendly and efficient team at the reception desk ascertained the immediate availability of what must have been one of their very finest rooms (on the highest floor). Said room included an enormous shower and a full-out terrace with jacuzzi, ample seating and a stunning view of the Barcelona Cathedral. Linens and amenities were outstanding. A couple of small, clever, amusing touches were greatly appreciated. One was inspired by the film "The Matrix" and the other was a handwritten welcome note. Breakfast was delicious, choices plentiful, fruit fresh, coffee available at all times of day and night. A huge shout out to the (all female during the day? The only male working the desk came on duty in the late evening hours) staff. All were personable, friendly, efficient, multi-lingual - there aren't enough compliments for the Pau team. One serious criticism: someone chose to "decorate" one of the walls of the already minuscule lobby with a continuous loop projection of what appeared to be the opening night party of the hotel, disco music and all (yep, I did write "disco"...) This faces the front desk directly and, as far as I was able to tell, it runs 24 hours a day. Try as I may, I cannot believe this goes over well with any guest. Lose the video, Room Mate people! For the rest, viva the Room Mate Pau!

Lovely hotel. Bed so comfortable. Location is incredible. Right in the centre. A couple of doors from the huge department store that also has a supermarket. Round the corner from the bus stops and Las Ramblas. Great shower. Lovely helpful staff. Thanks for your help with recommendations and booking tickets for us. Would definitely return to this hotel again.

Having stayed at the Room Mate chain before, this was another pleasant experience. Powerful air con/heating, comfy beds, nice toiletries, safe and minibar, kettle, and centrally located near Las Ramblas and the Aerobus stop at Placa Catalunya. Right next to El Corte Engles, the basement level of which has a supermarket where you can stock up on snacks, bottled water, and groceries. One thing I was not happy about was the design of the shower, which seems to be something that get few hotels get right. First mistake: there was no drain in the floor of the shower room. Add to this: Shower screen woefully inadequate, shower head very temperamental and sprays at all angles depending on water pressure, water gets EVERYWHERE. The bathroom is a puddle of water after taking a shower. Another thing is that housekeeping never topped up the toilet paper for four days until we ran out and asked. Overall pleasant stay and would stay here again.

Location was strategically in the heart of Barcelona - only 4 minutes walk from Aroebus final stop and the start of La Rambla walk (except we did not understand why La Rambla was so famous!). We booked for a standard room but decided to update to the next category as it had a bath tub which was useful to do washing given we travel for 7 weeks. This category room also had tea/coffee making facility. Room Mate utilised the space very well and smartly (similar concept to Citadines). It's clean, comfortable and had most things that travellers would require. Reception staff were very helpful, friendly and personal compared to big hotels that's why we liked staying at smaller hotels with more interactions with staff. The afternoon front desk staff Mellisa was very experienced and good at her job. She helped us with restaurant reservations & directions and nice to chat to. However, the following things could be improved on - the position of the TV at the side of the bed so we had to till the head/neck to one side to watch; the toiletries were in fancy plastic bags which not easy to open for older people or someone with arthritis and the bath towels were a bit old and thin. Overall we had a nice stay and the location was great.

Small hotel in a perfect location. Friendly and helpfull staf . The executive room 505 was lovely , very conmfortable beds and especialy the shower room.Great breackfest served till 12 o`clock is also a big advantage..

We spent four days in Barcelona on an extensive sight seeing trip and Room Mate Pau was the perfect location. It is just off Playa de Catalunya and many sights are walking distance. Two metro stops are within five minutes which take you to Sagrada Familia and the Northern areas of town. We loved the modern design of the hotel. It is a bit minimalist but what they do they do very well. Breakfast was great and there is an all day coffee machine in a seating area and good wifi if you need to work. Room tip fyi to privacy lovers: the bathroom sink area is open and divided by the bedroom just by a semi transparent glass partition. We loved it but just so you know if you are a new couple your partner will be seeing you doing your business at the sink! In any case highly recommended!

Small but very nice & clean rooms with complete amenities inside the room. A stones thriw to plaza Cataluna just beside El Corte Ingles and important landmarks and shopping as well as all transportation u need. The buffet breakfast was decent and beverages as well. The staff were sll very accomodating all the time. Always of help when you ask fir it. A great place location, service, breakfast, very clean. Safe!! Salute to them!
