The pool and amenities were top-notch. The room design was great. My only problem with the room was the lighting since they were only 3 presets you could choose from on the control panel.

This was our 3rd stay at The Okura Prestige. It has the best location of any hotel in the city and it’s rooms are so well and tastefully designed its usually my first choice in Bangkok. However this stay wasn’t quite as perfect as previous visits - the WiFi was very bad (at times almost useless); the room was starting to show its tiredness with damaged wallpaper etc and needs a referb now (3120). Also: on our final night the hotel turned all the electricity off for 5 hours or so. Whilst we were aware there would be limited electricity when we booked we were not advised there would be no A/C until a letter arrived in our room that very day. A hotel 10 times cheaper than this would still ensure to offer AC all night in the “hottest city in the world” to their guests - this is the one minimum mandatory service required in Bangkok! So needless to say we had a really bad night’s sleep in the heat of the last night of our stay. On my past two stays it was worth it to spend the extra $100+ a night for the Okura rather than Conrad, Grand Hyatt etc however this time it was not. Hopefully they improve these small standards again to justify the premium pricing or will be forced to drop their room rate into line with almost all other 5* properties in BKK.
