The Shangri-La Bangkok is a lovely hotel with loads of old-fashioned charm. But there are little things that make it less than perfect. In our day and age, instant coffee in a five-star hotel room is just not acceptable. I had a coffee machine in a three-star in Krabi. Also, it was impossible to lower the air-conditioning. There were two settings, polar and off. Besides that, I enjoyed the hotel, its beautiful grounds, the breakfast, the great location and my wonderful river view.

I really don’t understand why this hotel has so many good reviews. The rooms are extremely dated, the hotel has an odd smell and the breakfast was mediocre. The shower in our room had a draining issue which meant the water would linger for minutes on end!!! The TV was about 20 years old and had limited cable channels. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly. Nonetheless my experience was not what I expect from a luxury hotel chain - very disappointing. Would not stay again and will not be recommending to others.

Fabulous stay in a beautiful hotel. Loved the river view room. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast was superb. We had the most amazing meal in the Thai restaurant. The hotel is convenient for getting around via the river or train.
