Came here yesterday, walking into the room felt like i was stepping back in time, it had a fusty smell on entering. The wood work was chipped, very dated & shabby. The wall paper was dirty & all marked. The bottom sheet of the bed was dirty, window broken & blood on the hanging sheet around the bed. Brown stains on the pillows. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned since it was fitted. Nothing at all like the pictures when we booked it. We called & complained, a very rude cleaner came in. She changed the bed sheet, i showed her the blood & she laughed. The handyman came in with a screwdriver & bodged the window. The cleaner took the dirty pillow away (that didnt have a cover on) & put a cover on it. When she left i checked the pillow & it was the same one, with a clean cover on. Another cleaner came in & they both removed the bottom sheet of the bed, didnt replace it & walked out. We were treated as though we had done something wrong, very rude both the cleaner & handyman. Wouldnt recommend, terrible hotel & staff!

Royal Hotel Bangkok The Royal Hotel, not Royal Rattanokosin Hotel. Very out dated rooms and furniture. Agoda booking rooms are located in the Old back area of hotel. Take a cut lunch with you as you manouvre around the fish pond, catering and back kitchen to get to your elevator. Room outlooks are on back dirty alley, windows not cleaned inside or out, Floor carpet old and very stained, paint work shabby and wall paper pealing in room. Lights beside bed didn't work, light switches and power outlets don't work, and don't get me started about the air-conditioning.... albeit, lack there of. The connecting door is garbage 😠 For a recommended 4 🌟, it's lucky to rate 1 🌟. Staff very strict about their job title, no multi-tasking or multi skilled. Computer system in use for reservations only, everything else, on paper in triplicate, with carbon paper. Five older ladies on reception working in a 3 x 2m space. Each will only can do her own job. Slow and not up to date with First World Front Office practices. Glad to only stay 1 day.

Great disappointment. Hotel works and looks like a decade ago. Stuff very unprofessional and even rude. I chose and pay for deluxe, renovated room and instead I was given old, scruffy room. The receptionist was "squiking" at me using little English that that is the room I booked . Finally I was given room which I paid for and still it was far from the standard presented on booking ( photos of booked and given room below) Hotel is dirty Stuff is rude (one out of every 4 words is not English word) At 10am there was drilling next my room Breakfast prepared with low quality food definitely not four star hotel breakfast, no coffee machine, plates looks like plastic No hair dryer in rooms, you can call for an iron but only before 5, no kettle in the room Air conditioning doesn't work when you are not in a room so when you go back from the city you walk into the oven Old wooden windows are drafty so all noise from the street is in the room Very week WiFi( 8 mbits) Very small pool, badly surrounded Hotel is dirty and far from the standards of four stars hotel ( mold in my bathroom photo) In the room there are warning signs that your belongings can be stolen and a lot of information in Thai only Run down hotel I really don't recommend.

I stayed here for 8 nights and it was a nice stay! The only problem I really had was the WiFi and the shower in my room leaked every time I used it. I didn't use the pool but it appeared to be well kept and clean. The breakfast is decent for the price and the food is good. The AC was fine.

The hotel was supposed to be the best and heritage hotel of Bangkok. But well, like many government properties the same has definitely lost its charm. Once you enter the lobby - it is fabulous, but then you arrive at the reception where it seemed people hardly know how to smile and greet guests. However I found the waitress at the coffee shop pretty charming and helpful. The rooms are quite old in design, which is understandable, but bathrooms are not well maintained. Its not bad, but it is not good either. Ironing in the room is not allowed, the rooms do not have coffee or tea maker - infact it is written to be "not allowed", there are no safes in the room. Swimming area looked nice!! The location of the hotel is great and is tourist destination for many. The lunch buffet costing 199 THB did not taste Good. I really wish that the authorities take note and do something to bring back the glory.

The hotel staff are rude and unhelpful. You'd expect to be made to feel welcome on check in but instead it's like you've angered them by checking in. We thought it could just be the one staff memeber but at breakfast the next day they were the same. No eye contact, barking out one word orders, generally unhelpful. Pool is very small, they must have employed a good photographer! Positives... Good location and rooms are clean but you could definitely find far better quality close by.

The Royal's rooms and bathrooms are nice, at least in the deluxe room I had. Khao San Road is just 2 blocks away, handy for restaurants, exchanging money and getting laundry done. It's within walking distance of the top two Buddhist temples visitors want to see in Bangkok, too. The front staff was helpful, writing out addresses in Thai so I could give them to cab drivers. But if WiFi is important to you, you might want to stay somewhere else. Often I couldn't get online, and then got kicked off at random points other times. Fresh fruit at breakfast was good, but there are more choices if you'd rather have an Asian breakfast. That might be because Chinese New Year was going on, with lots of Chinese visitors.

Two pieces of advice ! If you require wi-fi do NOT stay here. It is the worst I have experienced anywhere. Very unfriendly and rude staff at reception. They all need to be trained in customer appreciation and customer service. A smile instead of a ‘bark’ would be a good start !

This hotel is, these days, pretty basic. Clearly it was once something very special - the sweeping staircase, marble floors and large rooms hint at a luxury past which has fallen to hard times and coach parties. But, contrary to other recent reviews, I found staff mostly cheery and friendly, even reception. Plus they have a wide linguistic ability. Super plus is the location of the hotel, , just a few minutes walk from the Grand Palace and about as far again as Wat Pho. A plus for me personally was the cluster of silver component wholesalers I found down a side street. Minuses - No kettle in the rooms. There's no safe either but deposit boxes are available behind reception for the price of a refundable deposit on the key. The pool is the size of a postage stamp and the surrounding area needs a thorough pressure wash (corollary to this, good opportunity to laze and bird watch) I swatted a mosquito in my room daily as well as spraying - I have delicious O+ blood and they always find me. Breakfasts are buffet and plentiful though unchanging. Plus, the fried egg cook does great fried eggs - perfect! WiFi is a bit idiosyncratic - try to get an unlimited room based access rather than the three day ones issued on arrival There's not much street food in the immediate area Another useful tip, the 7-11 sells one week holiday mobile sims - take an old phone and put a sim into it for a week of hassle free roaming Hotel was clean, though clearly in need of decorating and some maintenance. It must have been pretty high end in its day. Bed was good, with excellent linens (also towels with some life in them) all changed daily

This hotel has THE WORST customer service I have ever experienced. Staff wouldn't make eye contact when checking in or even crack a smile which really set the tone for the first day. We were made to feel like we were hassling them by just turning up. When I called for room service on the second night, the person on the other end of the phone actually moaned?!?! and then hung up and proceeded to ignore my calls. Then, when I called reception to see whats good, their suggestion was to - instead of resolve the issue with the room service staff - go to the shop myself? I'm quite happy to do that except what is the point in offering room service if its too much of a chore for the staff to actually do? We originally had 4 nights booked here but ended up finding another hotel after 2. The place is completely run down and pretty much needs an entire renovation. I've been backpacking for the most part of my trip and the rooms and staff in many hostels far surpassed this place. If a backpacker who really doesn't require much is complaining then that should be a huge red flag! The location also sucks, not near anything apart from Khao San Road. The traffic is crazy to get into the centre of Bangkok - takes about an hour - and there is no skyrail link close by. There are plenty of better options, don't make the same mistake I did!
