Had a fantastic room and the staff were excellent. The hotel is a little tired but it is gives the hotel a unique feel.I only hope that the new hotel can live up to this one.Great location easy to get around.
The hotel has a good location, it is an old hotel but aging gracefully. Staff was great all across the board. Quality of breakfast was the lowest point in our stay but overall great value. Electric sockets only on one said of the bed was inconvenient.
Had 2 nights here. Got upgraded to a suite for the Hotel's 48th Anniversary deal. Great room, good club lounge. Food and cocktails were great as was breakfast. Its a good location - Silom Road and Patpong Street Night Market. We'll be back again soon!
Stay here many times due to the reputation and most importantly the location. Some “cheap” rooms a bit worn out.. but still comfortable.di hope some renovations on these rooms to compete with new htl.
Got a great deal booking through captain obvious web site!!! The hotel is closing in April 2018 and being knocked down and rebuilt. It is tired and dated in some places but the lobby's are lovely, the staff are great and the food is excellent we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay
I have stayed in this hotel at least twice. First one was in 2016 and this is the second time I stayed there. Location wise, it is very good with BTS access which is only steps away from the hotel. There are a lot of street foods nearby the hotel so don't worry about food. Most importantly if you're in Bangkok! I hope the Government is not going to tear down the hotel. It is one of the oldest hotels in Bangkok and recognized as Bangkok's landmark. Overall very good!
The hotel is located in a very favorable area for transport in some directions of the city. From the hotel you can also visit by walking the many attractive sites of Bangkok. The hotel has plenty of space. The rooms are very well furnished and clean. The bathrooms are very well equipped. Service was excellent. Very communicative and friendly staff and very willing to serve. The room we had booked were in the central hotel, not in the club rooms. The quality of the club rooms was not as the rooms of the hotel. The pool was nice but it was not frequented in autumn and winter. The breakfast was open buffet and with many choices. Service at the restaurant and at the bars was very high quality.
Stayed for three nights before travelling on to Koh Samui, stayed here a couple of years ago, so knew what to expect. Upgraded to a suite overlooking the beautiful Lumpini Park. I would call the hotel opulent and a beautiful escape from the frantic Bangkok rat race. Staff, food, rooms, are all fantastic. Unfortunately they are knocking down and rebuilding the hotel, so the last chance to stay here will be April 2018. Lets hope the new one is as good.
I spent above my budget to stay at this hotel, based on reviews. Big mistake. I arrived to find dead cockroaches on the floor and a sink held together with putty (not a crime in and of itself, but certainly not the advertised standard), covered in black scunge. It was clear nobody had even looked at the room for some time prior to my check in. I now understand the hotel is closing (and by extension is in poor condition), however, I was deeply disappointed in the standards given the price and reputation of this hotel. I could clearly hear the television, toilet, conversation, and coughing of my neighbour from inside the room. There was a hole in the wall of my balcony, and had I been travelling with children I would not feel safe allowing them on it, due to the rusted, sketchy state of the railing. Hardly the relaxing, luxury experience I thought I'd paid for. Room cleaning was erratic (no cleaning one day, an attendant letting themselves in at 5pm while I was asleep in bed the next), which doesn't really bother me but consistency would be nice. This is a management/ownership issue - please do not use this review as an excuse to berate the very kind and friendly housekeeping staff. I requested a taxi to the airport for a specific time, which I was assured would be arranged, and arrived to find this was apparently interpreted as "I request to wait in a queue for a taxi at this time". Luckily I allowed myself extra time, however, if I'd relied on the assurances that my taxi would be there at 2pm I could have missed my flight. Arrange your own airport taxi. All services, food and amenities are still charged at premium prices despite the obvious decline in quality of this hotel. It is dishonest for the hotel to keep using photographs from a time the hotel was clearly in better condition, and to continue charging the prices it does. There are even "budget" hotels where you will receive a far superior experience nearby. Please, choose a different hotel in the Silom area. It is not reasonable for this hotel to continue projecting itself as a 5 star experience. I do not generally leave negative reviews, however, I literally feel like I got scammed by this hotel. I wanted to treat myself to an above average hotel as my last stop on my trip, and instead was charged far too much for a below average experience. I cried on the dirty floor of the balcony when I arrived because I felt so stupid for trusting the positive reviews. I still don't understand why there are so many. I suspect many of these are from people paying for top level suites. Staff were kind and helpful when it came to giving directions and advice, and to be honest seemed a little embarrassed. Perhaps if you can afford a higher level room you would have a better experience, however, I would still suggest you'd get better value for money elsewhere. The only thing this hotel really has going for it is close proximity to public transport, however, any of the hotels within a few blocks of this one will really be close enough, I promise. Don't go by the NerdNomads review in particular. I sincerely, sincerely suggest you choose a different option for your accommodation. I tend to disregard negative reviews that seem so drastically in the minority as is the case with this hotel, but please, don't make my mistake.
Fast check in on 3rd floor not at the lobby. Staffs are friendly with good English. Breakfast at the Dusit club has limited menus whereas the breakfast at the pavilion offers more choices of food. Cocktails are limited but you can have as many alcoholic drinks as you want for 2 hours at the Dusit club. Surrounding area is filled with Gay bars, so I don't recommend it for men who are looking to hook up with Thai women. Great place for couples and family. Unlike other hotels the swimming pool is usually full of patrons off the hotel. Overall great hotel with 5 star service.
