If you want to avoid the noisy, high rise, shopping mall area of Bangkok, Thailand and want to enjoy being within walking distance of Wat Pho and the Grand Palace, you must stay at Aurum the River Place. This Boutique Hotel offers superb hospitality and service. Due to some scheduling issues, we ended up arriving in Bangkok a day & a half early. The owner came down at 4:00 am and checked us in, no problem adding the extra time to our reservation. They provide a full breakfast & bottled water for each guest, daily. They are right on the river, across from Wat Arun and there is a coffee spot with a garden area where they serve you your breakfast. They are 2 blocks away from the Wat Pho Thai Massage school, walking distance to the Museum of Siam, Wat Pho and the Grand Place. The main desk clerk, Pan, is so friendly and always has a smile on her face. It is like staying with family. When I go back to Bangkok, I will most definitely stay at the Aurum the River Place. I am not sure any other place can compare.
Lovely boutique hotel in a quiet part of Bangkok. Awesome staff. Clean hotel. Beautiful view of the Temple of the Dawn across the River. Team arranged for airport transportation for us and even made sure we had a bagged breakfast for our busy tour day. Highly recommend.
Very good place, near the main attractions. Room was clean and tidy. Receptionist was very nice and very helpful, and sooo :) nice to our kid. Kid's friendly hotel. Only the wifi was slow and unstable. Ļoti jauka vieta, kur palikt pa nakti. Galvenās vēsturiskās vietas dažu minūšu attālumā. Brokastis bija vienkāršas, bet pietiekamas. Ļoti jauka dāma recepcijā, izpalīdzīga un īpaši jauka pret bērniem. Vienīgais mazais mīnusiņš - wifi pieslēgums - nestabils un lēns.
This hotel is close to several temples and the grand palace/ emerald city which makes it convenient on hot days. It is also a less then ten minute walk to the nearest river ferry dock which is needed frequently to get around town. Breakfast is delicious and the peaceful views of the river in the morning were one of our favorite parts. This location is good for those wanting to do temples, flower market, river boat tours, and explore china town. The room also had great A/C which deff was a perk! We enjoyed our stay here and recommend.
Location is obviously a personal choice. The riverfront is splendid for, well, the river! and to travel the waterways in the various ferries and tours. Next to the Royal Palace complex and some rather splendid temples, this is a great place to walk around, with numerous cafes both local and international. The Palace Complex is extraordinary (get there early). The Hotel has full and partial views of the river, and a river view is really interesting. If you want to go a little more bohemian, a taxi or tuk tuk will have you at Khao San in 15 minutes or so (beware totally unscrupulous drivers of both), or a short walk to the closest ferry (Tha Maharaj to Phra Arthit for the 'hop-on-hop-off' ferry) will get you a short walk to Khao San, via some interesting alleys. Hotel was very comfortable with immaculate cleanliness. Breakfast is included and served on the waterfront (great way to start the day). Hotel is quiet (some noise from the river ferries, but it is not annoying and passes by and is all part of being on a working river), and is a quiet and respectful place to stay. There is a small step down into the bathroom but well marked with non-slip tape, and the shower is over the bath with appropriate safety rails, Wifi is free. Staff are very helpful, and airport transfer is available. Given my experience with local taxis, I would recommend airport transfer is pre-arranged.
Yes it is dated - but seriously charming and friendly. The location is so great! We had three nights with two full days to explore. Walked to temples, long boated from our own dock (arranged by Pan) breakfast right on the river - as they say in real estate - location is everything. We thought a great value considering the views and area. Pan is AMAZING. She figured out two days of activities for us -pointed us in the right direction- and speaks excellent English. She works 7 days a week, 15 hours a day.... Note: If you do want to tip don’t use the tip box. I asked. Apparently it does not get distributed much to the employees. Dark ages here and no employee rights. We gave Pan her tip directly and she cried. What can I say. Dignified charity folks. We never asked. Classy beautiful lady but we figured it out. $15 and it gave her ability to take a day off. We are not wealthy - not even rich. But I will say... she needed little bit far more than us. We found this hotel on Trip Adviser and recommend it highly. And pass it forward - tips in third world countries are direct and powerful.
We stayed here for 2 nights and had a lovely room overlooking the river. It was a lovely quiet and spotlessly clean hotel. Quite an old fashioned lobby where we ate breakfast both mornings. A nice breakfast freshly prepared. The best thing about the hotel was the location being literally a 5 minute walk to Wat Pho. The hotel arranged a taxi to the airport but it would have been a cheaper option to organise our own metered taxi. There is a nice cafe opposite the front of the hotel with seating next to the river. All in all a nice hotel with friendly staff but after looking at other hotels nearby we felt it was a little overpriced.
This small hotel is on the river and boasts a view of Wat Arun. The staff were extremely gracious and helpful with whatever we needed. There is a set breakfast at the next door coffee shop that sits on the river. Try the Thai breakfast, it was delicious! It was an easy walk to the Wat Pho, a longer, hot walk to the Grand Palace. But also close to the pier to take the hop on hop off boat trips. Location and staff make this place great, but it is not a place for luxury. The room was small and the hot water in the shower lasted only 30 seconds (though the heat of Bangkok made a Luke warm shower pleasant). If not for the water, this would have been a four star review just for the gracious staff. Definitely worth the price.
This small boutique hotel is in close proximity to attractions like the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. With only 4 rooms per floor it is intimate but the rooms are spotless and well appointed. The staff are friendly, attentive and helpful! Breakfast is served opposite the hotel at a small cafe by the riverfront with a choice of American or Thai options. This is a terrific place, a little off the beaten track and a great value! We enjoyed our 5 nights at the Aurum and would return again! (one of our party had already been twice before and recommended the hotel for this trip...)
We had a great stay at the hotel overlooking Wat Arun temple across the river from our corner room on the third floor. Although it could be noisy in the evening & morning with river boat traffic it didn't deter us from a comfortable night's sleep. The bed was comfortable. The room spacious enough. The bathroom was large enough (although as per other reviews slightly dated). We had a delicious Thai breakfast each morning whilst there when we could. On one of our days we had a very early start for a tour & our beautiful host Pan organised a sandwich breakfast to take with us. Pan was a wonderful host, she made our stay very easy & enjoyable. It felt like we were staying with an aunt/grandmother/mother. Highly recommend staying here if you like to be away from the rat race of Bangkok, but within easy walking distance to major tourist attractions & the nightly flower market (which is worth a wander through as well!)
