Friendly staff. The rooms are a bit small but adequate--but it's quite easy to hear people next door/above you/outside. Walking distance to all that downtown Bancroft has to offer. Good for a quick trip.
We booked online through their website in advance to find that the walk in rate was $20 less and they refused to reduce our rate. Some good things: - fairly clean - central location Bad things: - horribly out of date facility - they request that you remove your shoes upon entering the main lobby - very poorly maintained .... like a poorly trained handy man did the work - the facility appears to have been expanded a number of times with no overall design - the staff are just plain rude and condescending - the continental breakfast is ridiculous and ends at 9 30 Overall, this is a story about an owner that has under invested and under values his or her customer base. There are lots of boutique hotels and other options in the area ... I suggest you consider them prior to the Sword.
We had booked 3 rooms with motorcycle parking. They would not accomodate us. We all paid different rates for our rooms. If you book through the hotels website it costs more?. The hot tub was dirty. The sauna was broken. The rooms were small and dirty. The staff were not friendly. I paid $160 per night for a hotel that should cost $80.
This hotel was by far the worst hotel experience we have ever had. It was pricey and the rooms are noisy, dirty and smelly. We had 2 nights booked but left after the first night and they charged us a cancellation fee.. Never again
We recently stayed there for a family wedding and were underwhelmed. It was expensive! Perhaps the wedding family got a break but we paid more as part of a group booking than was available on booking.com AND more than we recently paid for a lovely, clean, spacious room in downtown Ottawa. The room we had was very tired, plugs on only one side of the bed, carpet kind of crisp/ sticky and had that motel smell. The morning after the wedding housekeeping came knocking at 8:30!?! We understand that upkeep of a place like the Sword is an expensive, challenging job. We also saw another room that was more spacious and had better air quality than ours. However when you can't manage new carpet or fixtures then the staff, especially the front desk, have to be great. It was not! The person we dealt with several times was working from the Basil Fawlty School of Inn Keeping. We guests, it seemed, were pesky and should learn not to expect so much. A welcoming smile for instance. Info of any kind was not forthcoming, accommodating scheduling needs could not be done. A sincere, friendly explanation as to why something could or could not happen was not given. (Note any interactions we had with housekeeping staff - even the early knocker- were at least friendly and helpful. It is interesting to read the range of reviews from quite happy to very unhappy. We definitely don't want to return or recommend the Sword. Wish we had hit it luckier.
we paid almost $ 200 per night and we expected it to be clean, but room was dirty and very small, carpet very old and smells bad..Receptionist woman with fake eyelashes was very unfriendly. Stayed at room number 108.
Great location in town with everything in walking distance. Rooms are small ,but updated and clean. Staff was friendly and the continental breakfast would equal anything found in larger chains..stay isn’t cheap..but nothing is in cottage country in August...wouldn’t hesitate to return
Wasn’t sure what to expect but we were very happy with the Sword Inn. Clean facilities. Great pool. Convenient location in center of town. Breakfast didn’t have any hot food but was still good. We will be back for sure
Stayed here long weekend in May. Staff was friendly, and professional. However the place was overpriced, with a pet our cost for a pet friendly room was $166. Room was dirty, surroundings around building dirty and unkept. Sink had mould build up, floor in bathroom bad, windows dirty, towels looked like they were used to clean the floors. Next time I would not stay here. Photos attached.
First, the good: Location was great, central and near just about everything Bancroft has to offer. The indoor pool and sauna were open and a relaxing touch on what was a long trip. Now, the bad. Rooms were fairly small and in poor condition. The doorknob of the bathroom came off on the inside, making the room unable to be closed properly. At one point this trapped an unaware guest in the room for over an hour, and, when informed, staff opted to joke about the situation without so much as an apology. The continental breakfast was embarrassing to say the least. I had higher expectations for 150 dollars a night. Terrible experience overall, would have preferred to sleep in my vehicle.
