We had come from a three night stay in kuala lumpar where we had stayed in a suite at the Berjaya Times Square(excellent). We alledgedly had an upgrade at this hotel, god knows what the standard accomodation was like!(love to know where they took their pics from) The hotel is off a little side road and although the lay out was pleasant and the staff, the accomodation was poor.It reminded me of cheap hotels/rooms I had stayed at some 40 years ago in the greek islands,if you've ever done that, you'll know what I mean. We were scheduled to stay for 7 days but, booked out after 1 day. En suite very dated(as was everything)sheets and towels grey, furniture very, very dated and in poor condition. Quite nice grounds and pool but, only half a dozen sunbeds which the towel placers had got well before I got up(most were'nt actually occupied though). I really don't hold the hotel to blame but the travel agents that use them.
We had been to this hotel and never had a problem before but this time we were very dissapointed, for several reasons. You go on holiday to relax and not once whilst we were there could you lay on a sunbed they were held by people getting up at the crack of dawn who put their towels books etc on them and there they stayed all day even when they weren't on them. Also unable to get a swimming towel none available, no hand towels, the shower water pressure was very bad, and the water was cold! On the plus side the staff are friendly and the gardens are lovely!
What a Total waste of money this hotel is!! And then recommended by TUI, and the owner was even claiming that Room nr 110 is one of his best rooms?? Seriously I am not even tempted to see the rest.... Shower only produced some drops... Toilet was not Flushing... the amount of dirt underneath the bed was terrible.... Breakfast was served by a girl who I think is better of with a job where she doesn't have to serve anyone... I can go on for a while but it is not even worth it...So we stayed one night and then booked another normal hotel on our own expense because TUI who the F.... is TUI ... Never again....
We choosed this hotel being aware of going to a cheaper option, so we were prepared for old furniture, not so much choices for breakfast, no problem. What we did not expect was a shower just spitting some water, not enough to cover your body, out of the question to wash my hair, a toliet that you have to fill in water manually to flush it.... smelly bedsheets and towels.... and the "top" was the moment we found by accident the amount of dirt underneath the bed... after only one night, we left without looking back...
Recently returned from two weeks in this run down hotel. Have been to Bali many times before so realise that this hotel is not really three star. The food was very poor at breakfast and on one occasion we got mouldy bread, the staff were trainees from school, it was a mess, although we did eat in sometimes as it was convenient. There were not enough sunbeds for the small pool and we never, ever got pool towels although on two occasions we were promised them. The rooms were basic and kept very clean, but our toilet was always broken and the shower handle kept falling off, we hardly got hand towels and the phones never worked in our room. Safety deposit boxes in reception, although on occasions there was never anyone there to see to them. Reception was very lax. This hotel is in need of total refurbishment. The location is poor. Down a dark lane and a walk from the beach. Not an experience we would repeat.
Been to Bali several times and this hotel has been my most average stay. First of all an Airport pick up was included in our price, but no body was there to pick us up, I had two children with me. After travelling on a plane for 6 hours the last thing I wanted was to wait around at the airport, we called the hotel, nothing was done they didn't care. So we caught a taxi. My brother was due in the next night they didn't pick him up either. So don't expect an airport transfer from this hotel. Secondly when we're leaving, the woman in charge stopped our driver and accused my brother of taking a hand towel! Now firstly he was the only one booked into the room and he said there was no hand towel just one towel. He let her search his bag. She still wouldn't give up. It was a. Bloody hand towel for god sake. We had a boat waiting for us and she wouldn't let our driver go until he finally had enough of her crap and we left. The actual hotel grounds are neat and tidy our room was great for the price. The food not great but not terrible. The area was easy to get around. But those experiences left a bad taste we definitely will not be back to Mentari. Have stayed at way better places in Bali and I despise being treated like a dumb tourist.
As soon as we walked through the door we felt relaxed. Our welcome drink tasted like smarties candies, our front desk lady, Putu, was an angel! We had left 3 nights early from a previous location that was horrible and unsafe and Putu was so empathetic. They let us check in hours early and their staff brought our bags to our room. The room is so clean, the air conditioner works great, and our garden view is gorgeous with a balcony. Our king size bed has super clean sheets and smells great. The mini fridge is stocked with sodas and beers. We are so close to Dunkin Donuts and all the shops! (about a 5 minute walk for us short people) We haven't even checked out yet and we are just so happy to be here. <3
Hotel is located on a very small road off the main road.. Reception personel very friendly but personel in restaurant unfriendly. Breakfast very poor to say the least. Other guests bought their own breakfast and bread to eat for breakfast in restaurant! Only 9 chairs around the pool and towels not always available. Very sad we ended up in this hotel booked by TUI as a lot of nicer hotels around the corner. The pictures on the site don't justify the hotel at all. We as a family of 3 were given a room with 3 single beds...
We first visited the Mentari 5.5 years ago, although we have sent others to the hotel, we have never returned. Why? Well I don't really like Bali (although my wife does). I first visited 25 years ago and found Bali to be paradise, but was appalled at what it had become. This visit I was more open minded and whilst Paradise Lost, it's ok for a break. For a beach holiday the northern end of Sanur isn't at all bad, a little dirty, but plenty of restaurants and bars and reasonably priced hotels outside the peak season (with Chinese tourists, being block booked into the large chains and Australian tourism down dramatically). Is the Mentari the best value? Probably not, but its good value and we love it. Transport is expensive in this part of Sanur (not by international standards) as a percentage of everything that happens here goes to Tommy Suharto (son of the former President). But it's a short walk to the highway where you can get more reasonable metered taxis. Although there is no real reason to leave the pool and the beach. Hotel staff are very friendly and contribute to the hotels laid back atmosphere. Rooms are large and the beds huge. Maybe not well appointed, the rooms are more than adequate. Most visitors experience some maintenance problems, which are resolved immediately by the staff. Breakfast is reasonable, although not so good that you will be tempted to eat anything else at the restaurant. The real selling point of the Mentari are it's beautiful gardens and pool. This contributes to a great atmosphere, amongst the largely Dutch visitors. Perfect for families and couples, but maybe not for clubbers, but then why would they stay in Sanur? I cannot emphasise this atmosphere enough, as its lifts this hotel to being a really great place to stay. Will we return? Of course, what else do you need from a beach holiday? Do I still yearn for the old Bali? Yes of course, but life goes on and we all must accept change.
After an initial mix up about us requiring a double room, everything was perfect. We chose not to have breakfast included and found several restaurants serving breakfast close by and much cheaper than the motel. This is a quiet motel, down an alley, with lovely rooms and swimming pool. However, it is still close to the beach and the Sanur Boardwalk. Grounds are flat making it easy for people with walking difficulties.
