My partner and I stayed a week here and it was perfection from start to finish. At first we were a bit concerned that the resort might be a bit too big (thus lacking in personality or charm) but not a problem here. Yes it is a big property but you never loose that intimate feel. There are different pools, each with its own charm and different from each other. The location of the entire resort is WOW - a real feeling of being in the jungle. The level of quality and service is everything you could hope for. The food was amazing and the rooms very comfortable. The spa is a dream and good value-for-money. A WINNER!
I have always believed that the one thing that can set a place apart from all the rest is its people. That is absolutely true after the amazing afternoon we spent at our Maya Cooking Class located at the Maya Ubud Resort and Spa. Citra and Wayan do an amazing job which will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. First, we were greeted in the lobby by Citra who escorted us to the beautiful outdoor kitchen which is situated in the middle of a garden where fresh vegetables and spices are being grown. She welcomes you with a beautiful and refreshing cold tea drink and refresher towel. Next we were seated at a beautiful set table and introduced to the many wonderful dishes we would prepare during the class. Next we meet Wayan-- the wonderful Maya Chef who introduced us to the dishes with a beautifully appointed recipe book that we would get to keep. After that, Citra and Wayan helped up into our aprons, we washed our hands, and we were ready to embark on a culinary journey. We have taken cooking classes all over the world, and this one was so well organised and moved at the perfect pace. It was so much more than just throwing ingredients into a pan. Wayan has a magical way of showing how all the components come together to create the perfect dish. He makes certain that you capture all the senses that go into authentic Balinese cooking. And is knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions about Balinese culture and cuisine. Throughout the class he made sure we cooked with a smile as it just makes everything better! His sincerity and smile was there from start to finish. Together we created many tasty and beautiful dishes with Wayan teaching us ways that we could create these dishes on our own at home. After the class we were seated at the beautiful table and presented with an absolute feast of everything we created. It was done so in the most elegant way and we were made to feel as those we had gone from the kitchen into a 5 star restaurant. Citra was wonderful attending to us, offering us drinks, and moving us (at our pace) through the courses with new plates, etc. This is experience was the highlight of our holiday in Ubud, and it is so highly recommended. I don't know if the Maya uses other chefs for the course, but I would highly recommend you request the team of Citra and Chef Wayan who will make this spectacular afternoon something to remember!
In the middle of the forest this hotel is great, nice and calm. We spend here 3 great nights and it was perfect Service a must. Breakfast awesome and infinnity pool amazing. Even in the night without any kind of noise around you
First stay in Bali. Arrived here after staying four days in Hong Kong. Lovely grounds, very serene atmosphere, great staff who were always friendly and helpful. We did a full day’s excursion arranged by Our Virgin rep. Worth going on as we only had a couple of days here. Visited the Sacred Monkey forest, Tegalalang Rice Terreaces, Coffee plantation, Waterfall, Temples as well as Silverware & wood workshops. Ate at the hotel on both nights. Enjoyed the food. Wished we had had a few more days here to do some exploring on our own, but we can do that next time!
We definitely saved the best for last. Came here for their famous flower bath. So relaxing, peaceful and amazing view of the river! The property is gorgeous! A definite must if you’re in Ubud! A jungle dream!
The hotel is fantastic located close to Ubud. We have been to Ubud many times and stayed in various hotels. This hotel should be the top but we didn't experience that. It is all very formal and staff seems not honest in their hospitality but a bit fake and a little bit bored. At least we didn't feel the hospitality we normally experience in Indonesia. Also the prices are much too high comparing what you will get and with other 5 start resorts in Ubud. We had a pool villa for 344 USD and it was ok but also already a little bit outdated (especially the pool). The spa is very nice but also there I had the feeling that staff was a bit fake. I would like to advice to tell guests not to bring their cell phones to the spa area. There were Chinese people playing videos on their cell phones and talking very loud. I believe a spa is not the place for that but should be relaxed. In Ubud you have many good choices and we will not choose Maya again. I would also advise to arrange a shuttle every 30 minutes and also in the evening. For a 5 star resort with the high prices you are paying I believe that is a must.
We were on honeymoon, enjoyed Maya Ubud with their nature track in the morning. See the river and richness of Ubud forest. Love the pool and the view so much, to bad our stay only 2 days... Their bathroom not luxury but rather than nature way.
i have reviewed this hotel view times, for me this hotel, by ANY means, is the best hotel in the world. from design to service to culture. just wanna suggest one thing to at least provide butler service on poolside cabana, because its so difficult to get server on even the menu. thanks
We have been so lucky in recent years to stay in some beautiful hotels so now we find it hard to choose somewhere to stay because we've been spoilt! For our honeymoon we wanted it to be extra special. We planned to stay in Ubud for 4 nights and knew that most of our time would be spent out and about sightseeing and experiencing the culture. We chose Maya Ubud because of the great trip advisor ratings, price and distance from the centre of Ubud. THE ROOMS: we stayed in the main building of the hotel. The photos of the rooms at Maya Ubud do not do them justice. We normally opt for something fairly modern so I wasn't expecting to be in love with the rooms here. They're pretty traditional but very spacious, clean and well thought out. After travelling for almost 24 hours to get there the bed was extremely welcomed! They are so, so comfy and I slept so well while I was there! The bathroom again was traditional, not particularly to my taste... they didn't have the wow factor. BUT the bath was so big and I enjoyed having the traditional Balinese flower bath courtesy of the hotel in celebration of our honeymoon! Plenty of vanity space etc. STAFF: Staff here are very friendly, professional and helpful. They were always on hand to help you with any question you might have. They were always beautifully dressed in traditional Balinese clothes and always looking smart. LOCATION: Maya Ubud is peacefully set away from the hustle and bustle of central Ubud village. Set among rice paddies and lush greenery this hotel is a beautiful backdrop for spa and relaxation. Having said this it is a couple of minutes away from the centre of Ubud accessed easily by the daytime shuttle service offered complimentary by the hotel. During the evening we used the hotel taxi service to take us out for dinner and a local taxi service to take us back. Both easy and reasonably priced. Obviously it's more expensive to use the hotel taxis than local taxis but they're very continent. No need to order in advance either. UBUD: Ubud is lovely, a small but bustling centre consists of shops, market stalls, bars and restaurants. Here you will find the famous Monkey Forest and some beautiful temples. We spent our days mooching around, sometimes relaxing at the Folk pool bar and during the evening we ate dinner and had drinks. It's quieter than other places on the island but is the perfect location to experience the monkeys, temples, waterfalls and rice terraces. You can get a real feel for Balinese culture, art, music and food here. If you're a social media user I would highly recommend following 'Ubud Hood' for a taste of what to do while you're here! FOOD: Breakfast was in the main restaurant. The food was good, a nice selection of Balinese and international cuisine with a peaceful backdrop to start the day. We only ate lunch at the hotel once, which was at the river cafe. Beautiful location, so relaxing. The food here was good and it was nice to unwind after a busy morning. We only ate at the main restaurant once in the evening. I cannot criticise the food as such but we found it slightly underwhelming. It was good but it wasn't amazing! We're quite big foodies so this isn't to say the food was bad it just wasn't our 'thing'. BAR: The bar adjacent to the lobby was a nice place to unwind with a cocktail during the evening or a nice spot to cool off during the day with an ice tea! SPA: Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to use the spa facilities. It was a fly in visit spent out and about and this is my only regret because the location of the spa is incredible! This hotel truly lends itself to its lush surroundings. HOTEL GROUNDS: Beautiful! One of the most beautifully located hotels we've stayed at. The hotel itself has obviously been perfectly designed with its location in mind. Two beautifully located infinity pools with views of the lush green forests and rivers. The hotel grounds is the reason I've rated this hotel with a 5 because it was just lovely and so inviting. I wish we had more than 4 nights here so we could properly enjoy relaxing around the pools! OVERALL EXPERIENCE: We loved it here. The hotel and Ubud itself were what we really wanted from Bali and it was a great start to our honeymoon. Usually we don't upgrade our rooms before we travel because we've found that it's usually cheaper to do it once you're at the hotel than it is with your TA. We arrived at the hotel in the early hours of the morning. No one asked if we'd like to pay for an upgrade and we were too tired to even think of it too! Perhaps they were fully booked but we'd have loved to upgrade as it was or honeymoon. Once we'd started the holiday it never entered our head again because we were having such a good time but I'm sure the upgraded rooms are lovely too! The overall cost of staying at this hotel was excellent value for money! So upgrading would be well worth it for the extra cost :) Thank you for a great start to our married life together!
Before I start, here is one bad thing with this hotel. Because of its location (in the jungle) you tend to get a few insects. We didn’t see any in our room, but they do provide insect spray, so make sure to spray it under the beds. As I said, we didn’t see any, but it’s better to be sure. Also at night you may hear some strange noises. Don’t worry, this is just wildlife outside the room. The hotel itself is just beautiful! Rooms are nicely decorated, and the views of the jungle are amazing. Delicious food on at the buffet, and definitely try the yoga. It has a great location, close enough to the town Ubud (about 20 minute car ride-car rides into Ubud available every day) so as not to feel isolated. But still in the unspoilt jungle. All in all, it is an amazing hotel, I would go again in a heartbeat.
