We loved the Kupu Kupu Barong . The villa had a great private deck , pool and view into the jungle. The room felt rustic and private but with all amenities we could have wanted . The service was exemplary and the staff friendly from breakfast staff to shuttle drivers to our fantastic Butler ! We enjoyed the shared pool and yoga and massage in the open air tree tops. If I had any recommendation for the hotel to improve - the massage experience was decent for the price but not amazing . At breakfast anything we could want was made available. We also enjoyed several great Balinese dinners and had the complimentary afternoon tea service - very nice. Our butler continued to make anything we could think of happen seamlessly for us. Such a treasure . Ubud itself is a very special spot to visit !! If you are still booking we recommend - the river view level villas - away from the dam build and the whitewater boats - allowing for privacy but that tucked up in the trees privacy feel . This resort feels still authentic unique and special vs westernized and made bland and dull and generic - like so many resorts can become these days. Enjoy a special place !
We had some really nice days in Kupu Kupu. The hotel is lovely and the view out of rooms / area uncredible. We used the accomaodation for several daytrips, also to citytrips to Ubud. A shuttle is organised by the hotel - just book in time! We had wonderful days and this wonderful place and friendly staff. Thank you!
Extremely good resort. Very friendly staff. The infinity pool was awesome. Rooms are very clean and large . Breakfast was very good . Since it is built on a slopping terrain , there is a bit of walking to be done to reach the reception area.
Staff were outstanding and our room was spacious, cool and spotless. However the pool and dining room were disappointing. The pool didn't have enough seating or shade. The buffet had dirty red umbrellas with dusty cobwebs above the food which didn't seem hygienic. Not enough provision was made to over the food to keep flies off.
Hi, we went to Kupu Barong from 23-26 Des 2017 for our honeymoon. From the arrival, the staff was very friendly and helpfull. We are well served during our stay at Kupu Barong. We stay at the Private Villa with ayung River View which is shows the very great view. We enjoy the private infinity pool in out villa, the large bathroom that included big rounded bath tube also with the L'occitane Soap and Shampoo. The room design and decoration look like a rustic but feels homey, we had a great night there. Because its on the middle of the Jungle, there's many insect and sometimes lizard around our villa. Kupu barong also provided mosquito antiseptic there. During the stay, kupu barong also provide whiskey, glass of wine, coffemaker and mineral water inside our room, thats nice. For the breakfast , unch and dinner, kupu barong menus almost was a western food like sausage, sandwiches, bacon , and etc , the taste was good but the price was a little bit too high. Overall , we enjoyed our honeymoon at kupu barong, hope we can go back there at the future, Will recommend this place to our relatives Thanks Halbert Kurniadi
The construction is very special as the villas all built on the hillside facing the valley, so the private infinitely pool you have is having a gorgeous view - we remarked to chose those top 1 or 2 view so we can see people playing white water rafting down the valley! We did inform the hotel that this is our honeymoon trip so they have provided us with so many stunning honeymoon decorations in our room. The bath tub on the ground, wooden natural construction, and the bed with mosquito-net make everything so romantic! We had both nights slept so well (as it's so close to nature) so we love the days there. My husband had his toe twisted the first day arrived Bali so we didn't manage to go to so many places yet, we had two dinners in restaurants of this hotel and they taste good especially the Japanese one. There is normal rooms provided in this hotel and it got a swimming pool built with so still a very good choice to pick with. I did a yoga class there which was awesome, it took place nearby another swimming pool so my husband swam to wait for me (and took photos for me :)). The yoga instructor is so nice and friendly, he talked to many students after class. You need to book the class with the front desk if you want to attend this class. We also joined a rice farm tour there which brought us with a package of massage in L'Occitane Spa which provides an awesome environment and services.
My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in Bali and chose to stay at Kupu Kupu Barong villas. These looked very good from the photos and reviews. However, in sharp contrast to the resort location and property - the service, food and spa ruined it for us. We stayed at the river view villa, villa #36. We are vegetarians who love travelling and have travelled extensively to 24 countries. Adding this just for context. The Good - Location, quality and spacious villa rooms - Private pool with a large balcony overlooking the river - Romantic setting in the evening - Regular shuttle service to Ubud center - The staff wanted to help for anything that was within their convenience, e.g. bringing the iron and ironing table, bringing cut fruits etc. The Bad - Construction crew working all day at the river, spoiling the otherwise decent river view. On second thought, we would have been better off without the river view! - There were cobwebs in the toilet, the shower cubicle door was not shutting properly. Upon requesting that they look into this, there was nothing done and no follow up. - Food was strictly average, not just for vegetarian choice, but also from a quality and taste perspective of whatever vegetarian the restaurant managed. On 2 of 2 nights when we had dinner at La View, they were out of Risotto, which eliminated one of our decent vegetarian options. The "penne pasta in white sauce" and the "vegetarian soup" were both a disaster, with overcooked, lack of seasoning and overcooked pulpy consistency respectively. Upon giving feedback, they tried helping, but it didn't really help much! - The 3 hour "adventure" spa treatment for a couple included a 75 minute facial after the massage and body scrub. While the massage and scrub were strictly average, the facial was in fact a facial massage, as no gel-based products were being used for a "true facial". We asked them to stop in about 30mins in since we were not satisfied. - The lift which was essential for us to climb down the mountain to come to our villa broke down and for 2 days, we had to contend with a broken lift. There was no signage which meant that we had to walk down for about 200m only to realize that the lift was not functional before climbing back up to notify the staff. They arranged for buggies to ferry us via the much longer and steeper buggy route. In summary, this deserved a rating of 2 (poor), but the resort location warrants 1 additional point, so it lands at 3 (average). In one word, avoidable.
This place is surreal in the middle of a forest setting a perfect ambience for a romantic getaway, from the birds chirping in the background, insects buzzing and monkeys wailing it sets such a beautiful and yet very peaceful atmosphere. The staff here are exceptionally helpful and quick to r spondylitis to any queries you have. A definite recommendation for a honeymoon or romantic getaway.
We are here for 3 days to visit near by areas like Mt Batur etc. Kupu Kupu is good place to stay and relax with nature, green forest and soothing sound of river flow. Indian vegetarian food is good dur a Indian chef but this is not a safe place for elderly people or small children.
Extremely disappointed that at such a reputed and luxury hotel we experienced theft and that too from our room. While we went for our breakfast USD 500 and some local currency was stolen from our wallet which was in the room. The incidence was reported to the nearest police station and a formal FIR was lodged but that did not help, there were no CCTV cameras in the passages or anywhere outside the room.
