Tjampuan Spa Resort is still one of my favourite places in the world to stay. SInce our retirement my wife and I spend a large portion of our time travelling the world and this is the only resort I choose to review. It is because this is a truly magical experience comprised of a truly magnificent location, an outstanding staff and management and an illustrious history. I believe it has no match and given it's very reasonable rates it is extraordinary value for money. I have recently purchased a villa in Ubud, Bali and the fact that we still sometimes travel just down the road to stay there is a testament to our love of the place and people. If you are ever in Bali this is an experience not to be missed. Dr John Forrest
We had been here before so wanted to come back for a few nights. Its around 1km from town center but it is great location over the river with big clean rooms. breakfast is very good, they have the best banana pancakes in bali. If you are elderly or have difficulty walking then this may not be your hotel as there are alot of steps. overall it lived up to our expectations and can't fault it. staff are friendly which helped make the stay more enjoyable.
This was on my to do list as it had some great reviews. It really is a beautiful spa and the girls doing the massage were very good. My biggest complaint is that due to being outside and by the river, there was a very large group of ants that took a liking to my massage bed. Which meant I spent to whole hour massage swatting ants off of me, and they were also biting me that whole time. This obviously ruined it as I could not relax. The girls were aware this was happening so did try to swat them away, but they kept coming back. I saw them spray the bed with a repellant after our massage so hopefully this won't happen to other people. My boyfriend got lucky and was not affected. It's a shame that I only think negatively of this place after that experience, as I was offered no discount or compensation for this unpleasant experience. If that had not have happened this would be a very different review as otherwise it really was lovely. I wish I had have had my massage at my hotel Amora Ubud Villa, as they also have a very beautiful open spa with no bugs! Unfortunately I didn't realise this until my last day!
After the hustle of Legian what a welcome change of pace. As soon as you arrive you feel immediately at ease with the welcoming staff and the sounds of the river below & wildlife. On our first night we had in room dining which arrived promptly and by all reviews was delicious The staff are very attentive to particular requests, a young staff member helped with booking a tattoo and cooking class at the same time. The resort manager Astra was very genuine and excited about providing training and work experience to local students
We stayed in the Tjampuhan for three nights and wished we had booked for longer. Our room was Banyan 4 with a large bed, complimentary tea, coffee and water and even a couple of bottles of pop and a chocolate bar which was a nice touch. The room has an extra large terrace with day bed and amazing views of the jungle. Air conditioning worked perfectly, the only slight negative was the room was very dark and the bathroom dated with no stand in shower just an attachment over the bath but not a problem as we only used it as a base to go explore. Breath taking views and grounds immaculately kept. We had dinner here a couple of times and the food didn't disappoint, cocktails were 75,000 and the Ginger Honey Martini delicious! The pool was nice with plenty of sunbeds, the bar and area around it was very uninviting and could be made more appealing. I booked in for a spa treatment which was excellent, the room could do with a little make over but the experience over all was wonderful. To sum up a lovely traditional Balinese hotel, with genuine friendly staff, we were recommend to stay here and so glad we did.. thank you for a very memorable stay.
We stayed at Tjampuhan, May 21st until 24th, Our only regret...we stayed only for 3 nights. Waking up to the sounds of the River and Birds amongst the Jungle was sheer bliss! From the luxury of our huge bed we could watch small squirrel type animals scurrying through the trees outside <3 The hotel is set in the side of a hill so there are a lot of steps and paths but this adds to the charm of the hotel, river and jungle. Porters take your luggage to and fro your room. Pleasant to walk through the manicured grounds and a must to go down pass the lovely water lily pond to the spa with beautiful sculptures (unfortunately I didn't get to utilise the spa:( although looked amazing) There are two pool areas we only used the one closer to our room immaculately clean, nice trickling water fountains into the pool with provision of towels and lounging chairs. Every morning almost mysteriously flowers are placed throughout the grounds and pool areas and the typical Bali offerings replenished. Lovely! Buffet Breakfast with a fabulous view, egg station, Western and Indonesian choices replenished often...the Banana Pancakes...Oh how I miss the Banana Pancakes Yummm! The Room Division Manager (Gusti) a true gentleman, he has the ability to make you feel extraordinarily special. All the staff are attentive and helpful, always greeted with a smile The walk into Ubud is doable, we also utilised the free shuttle bus, nice break from walking when the weather is on the warm side. Cheerful (Nandy) the driver was very helpful in offering ideas on what to see and assisting with directions. This Hotel is not too far from central Ubud but far enough out to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere at the end of the day. Yes Beautiful Serene Surroundings!
When we booked we asked to be upgraded to a Deluxe Raja room. When we arrived it was all we expected but unfortunately it was close to the road and there was a lot of traffic, Bukit 1. We asked if there was another room available and we were graciously accommodated. The new room, Pura 3, was not quite as nice (only slightly) but had everything we needed with no road noise so we have been very happy. It also had a lovely view of the lily pond. The hotel is set on a hillside with fantastic jungle views, two pools, access to a temple (pura) at the convergence of the two rivers and a wonderful lily pond with frogs for a enchanting night chorus. It is just a little distance away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Ubud so that helps with the peaceful setting. There is a shuttle service that take you to Puri Lukisan four times a day which saves you a walk in the heat if you want to avoid it. The staff are very attentive and professional. The buffet breakfast and dinner is top notch. We enjoyed a stellar room service twice. Very fast and efficient. We have enjoyed our stay immensely and are heading to Jimbaran tomorrow. We would not hesitate to return here. A big thumbs up. 👍 Thank you to everyone at Hotel Tjampuhan from Craig and Jill.
We stayed at Tjampuhan Hotel a few times some years ago and thought it was an outstanding property. We returned last month and to my amazement we were remembered and welcomed like old friends. The renovations are not visible from outside the property but once inside the main foyer and restaurant area the transformation is fabulous. It's modern, open, but with an untouched Bali flavour. Nadi is so lovely. He has a quiet dignity and professionalism that oozes great pride in his long time place of employment. Thanks Nadi for looking after us; thanks also to Wayan and Gusti.
We stayed in the Tjampuhan hotel for two nights in May. We had booked a Deluxe room through Boookings .com. When we arrived we were put into a 'Superior Room" which is much smaller than a Deluxe room. When I queried this I was told that there were no Deluxe rooms available. The following morning I re queried the situation and was moved to a Deluxe room which is much larger. The hotel itself was built in 1927 , although has been refurbished since to very comfortable rooms. The location of the hotel is superb, . The rooms are placed down the side of the valley with a river below. The vegetation is very lush, just beautiful. There are two pools, one a bit larger and the other with a natural spring flowing into it, , probably one of the most beautiful pools I have swum in. The breakfast was pretty good, buffet style. The hotel is fairly close to the main town of Ubud, just cross the bridge and up the hill. I would definately stay again in a Deluxe room
This hotel is majestic and beautiful. The setting feels like you are in the jungle. The spa is magical. I recommend the restaurant, food is so good and very reasonably priced. The rooms are comfortable, bathroom was a little dated. Service great
