I arrived at the resort after traveling for 24 hours from the USA, so a little frazzled. My driver was polite and quiet and the staff at the resort were calm and friendly on my arrival. I was in an upper corner level suite with a lovely view of the ocean, the suite was huge and with a wrap around balcony. My only quibble was the bathroom the floors were a bit cracked and in places it looked dirty. It wasn't actually dirty at all- just in need of a refurbishment. Wifi excellent The food in the restaurant was very good, breakfast a little short on non-egg choices, but the yoghurt parfait was excellent, dinner was very tasty and well presented. There is a choice of both Balinese and western food, and while I was there a Japanese BBQ. Local produce where possible and obviously an innovative chef. The pool area was pretty tranquil, very friendly and courteous staff, the afternoon tea was very welcome. The beach is dark sand, I guess volcanic, it didn't appeal to me, but that is personal. I enjoyed a facial in the spa by the ocean with waves crashing close by. I did like the way in which local foods were used and the way that the hotel promoted the CSR policy of the Alila group All in all a very good 3 night stay and I would certainly return.
The alila Manggis is completely peaceful, serene and at one with nature. The grounds are beautiful. Great pool. Clean and tasteful rooms. The best and healthiest hotel breakfast, with multiple course, we have ever had. A very good restaurant for the evenings. The quiet town of candidasa nearby. I really hope that they keep these standards up into the future.
Forget staying in Kuta and the standard tourist spots on Bali - venture out to the East! Alila Manggis is a quiet, private resort set just between the towns of Candidasa and Padangbai. The fact that it isn't in a major town means its a wonderful spot to recharge your batteries. We stayed for 7 nights and were rather sad to be heading home. Lovely touches in the resort - included afternoon tea, occasional yoga classes, movie nights etc. A special mention to Seasalt restaurant as well - food was absolutely fantastic with an incredible focus on local produce. Highly recommended.
What a beautiful hotel! We arrived and were greeted by a super friendly and genuine Weda at reception! Her warmth and frienidliness was just incredible especially after an early flight! We arrived early at 11am but they were able to check us in early to our honeymoon suite! You will be blown away by the jawdropping beauty and peace and serenity of the hotel! The traditional balinese grandure in the architecture of the roofs mixed with the luxury feel. We didnt want to leave! The pool setting will have you wondering how it is sunset already! Breakfast is by far the best meal we had at the hotel! And they bent over backwards to accomodate my vegan and gluten free diet! The only thing I would change is the Movie Night on the Wednesday night we were there- i think it makes the hotel feel a whole less "luxe" - which was a shame. We had dinner in the hotel and was a shame to have the movie playing in the background while i tried to enjoy a romantic honeymoon meal with my hubby.
Although we only spen one night there, we still enjoy the fabulous resort. The pool is very nice and staff very attentive. I love the black sand beach which is very rare to see at other places. I will definitely come back again.
PROS: Exceptional service, beautifully laid out hotel with large, warm pool. Staff are really excellent and the service they provide is faultless, nothing was too much trouble and we had an interesting morning at the floating palace and bat temple escorted by a driver (sorry, can't remember his name) who taught us so much. Would recommend a day (mornings are calmer) at the white beach - again lovely driver took and fetched us, towels and water were provided. Endless towels and excellent service from pool staff, lovely afternoon tea. Good restaurants and bars in Candidisa, hotel shuttle during day or $6 on request. Breakfast very good. Have I mentioned how lovely the staff are ..... 😀- we only had to say 'would it be possible, or could you possibly please (with a few 'sorrys' because we are British) and a car would be waiting to whisk us off somewhere - I've never, and probably will never again, be so spoilt. CONS: Rooms are a bit small, ok for a short stay but not much luggage space. You need to open the window in the bathroom to let moisture out after showering and room and bed felt very damp for the first couple of days as it was humid. Not a brilliant view to the right of the garden as there is an oil terminal and there is no beach. Food and drink is a little pricey. Book restaurant - it was full on our first evening. Sunset bar was being built during our stay which I'm sure will be a huge benefit.
A fantastic end to our trip to Bali. Three days of peace, luxury and pampering. From our welcome to our departure we could find no fault. Food was outstanding, the location wonderful and the whole staff team so genuinely friendly and helpful. While it is hard to find one highlight we would say the Balinese massage in the room down by the beach was certainly up there. We will certainly stay again.
Based on TripAdvisor reviews & this hotel being advertised on Mr&Mrs Smith we thought this would be a great option to explore East Bali. 48 hours prior to check in I received an email entitled "Alila Manggis Wonderful Vacation Offer" which stated that due to an "extingency" we would have to spend 1 night in their Seminyak hotel before being transferred, 2.5 hours, to Alila Manggis for the remaining 3 nights of our stay. We had some correspondence on this and the situation was rectified, but it wasn't a great start to our experience at this hotel. Airport pick up and check in were both smooth. The room was adequate but small & underwhelming. Considering the price and quality of other accommodation in Bali, I was expecting a lot more from this room. Pool area lovely & daily afternoon tea a nice touch. Staff all friendly but lacking direction & management non existent. For example, loads of staff working in the restaurant, but no one to clear tables, top up water etc. Food and drinks were very overpriced & limited options to go elsewhere so it made for a costly stay. I had a nice massage at the spa but I had an almost as good massage across the road at Spa Andre for less than a third of the price. You can guess which one I went back to! Overall I think there are much better places to stay in Bali & we won't be returning here.
This property is far off from the airport (2 hours). Rooms are dated and the bathroom needs improvement. Towels are old and heavily bleached. Bed is acceptable but stains from prior use seen. This is Ocean front and not beach front. One really cannot use theOcean as the currents are strong and waves 3 ft tall. Breakfast is tolerable but dinner is pricey for this level of three star restaurant. It is tiring to eat breatand dinner at the same place. Overall, not my kind of place. Choose an American chain and u will be served better for the price.
We came back ten years after our first stay at Alila Manggis. Amazing place. We stayed this time with our little girl. Great service, great food, great location and facilities. Amazing service and kindness of staff. Recommended !
