My parents told me about days when lavish weddings took place here with helicopters landing on the lawn. I decided to treat my girlfriend to an overnight stay after passing her university exams. I bought a deal from the hotel's own website at £109. I soon learned those glorious days had long since passed. The so called double room was tiny and stuck away at the back of the hotel. Lucky I had a compass as there was no signage. I wouldn't have minded but the hotel seemed empty. Worse followed at dinner. My starter was ok but my girlfriend's soup was poor. Worse was her steak pie mains where the meat was tougher than leather. No cooking skills in the cheesecake sweets. All in all, a disappointing event. I can see why this hotel is ranked 5 out of 6 for Troon. I'd hate to see the 6th. Avoid.
Had the tastiest lunch in a long time here today.. the slow cooked beef to die for... sticky toffee pudding and salted caramel ice cream amazing will defo be back :-) sea view staff where really friendly
Upgraded to a superior room with views of the sea and Royal Troon golf course. Around a mile from the centre of town where there are a few bars and some really good restaurants to choose from but the hotel restaurant itself is up to a really high standard. Full access to the hotel’s relaxing spa is included in the price of the room and it is well worth a visit
We were looking forward to eating here. The website promises much and, with its serving the wealthy golfing set, we expected something special. We ate with friends in the bar. The food was uninspiring: my pan fried salmon was overdone and my wife’s risotto seemed microwave-fresh. The service was friendly but lacklustre. The bar selection was middle of the road. A disappointment.
Having just returned home from our third visit we cannot thank the staff at the Marine Hotel for again making our break so enjoyable, having read bad reviews we arrived with an open mind this time ,we have nothing but praise for them, dinner was first class service was excellent breakfast was buffet style probably could have been warmer but still enjoyable Marine Hotel thank you we will be back...
Nice hotel with a lovely restaurant, perfect views and good leisure facilities. Only stayed one night and sadly we arrived so late we didn't get to enjoy the pool but the staff were great, rooms clean and fresh, bar area comfy (but in need of some furniture upgrades). Wish I got to enjoy more but that's the price of taking my two besties with me. We did the spring deal which includes a 3 course meal - still thinking of that haggis starter - the sauce! Omg, delicious!
We had an itison deal for afternoon tea and were able to use it on Easter Sunday which was good (as it was my birthday too!) We had a table by the window with lovely views. The staff were very friendly and everything was served quick. You get to choose the sandwiches you want which I like as some places just give you what they’ve made up and a lot goes to waste! The cakes & scones were yummy too & we washed them down with a glass of prosecco! The hotel was very busy and there was just such a nice atmosphere and buzz about the place. It was a lovely day outside & the surroundings are just stunning. We went into the bar for cocktails after which were also great. We are getting married abroad this year and are having our home reception at The Marine & we just cant wait!
It's OK but nothing special the leisure facilities help but not impressed by the menu the meal was OK there's better across the road the rooms are OK the views are good if you get a good room it needs an upgrade we emailed the hotel with one or two requests which they asked if we would like it was ignored
The staff were lovely and very accommodating as well as professional and welcoming. The hotel itself is old and a little tired which kind of adds to its charm. It is however, in desperate need of modernisation or at the very least some freshening up. The room and its ensuite had absolutely no ventilation so was almost unbearably hot and stuffy, ended up asking reception for a fan which they were absolutely lovely about and brought one up very quickly. The bathroom having no air in it however was not so easily fixed - could not spend long without becoming overheated. Quite a shame considering it had a great mirror for putting on makeup which I never did use as the makeup would have sweated off my face before I had finished. The rooms could do with a little improving such as having a mini fridge, a hair dryer from this century and more reliable wifi. The hotel is quite cheap but you very much are getting what you pay for and it does not feel like a luxury or expensive stay. The room and hotel itself was very clean and comfortable, if a bit simple. The health and leisure area however was quite a let down. If you're going to enjoy spa facilities I'd recommend going elsewhere and paying more to enjoy a real spa experience, if a sauna and a steam room however are just an added bonus then The Marine is a great choice. The female changing rooms needed a good clean I'm sorry to say as did the pool area in general. The female showers by the pool absolutely reeked of urine and the ground was dirty and not where you wanted to have your bare feet. The pool area in general was more akin to a cheap family style pool than that of a hotel. My partner and I ended up not eating at the hotel but they had a varied menu including a gluten free menu which is fab. The Marine Hotel and Troon itself is definitely a place for the older people, myself (20 years old) and my boyfriend (23 years old) appeared to be the youngest residents by at least a generation. However, our intention for our break was somewhere quiet, comfortable and relaxing and Marine delivered just that with its cosy Arran bar, helpful staff and beautiful surroundings. Overall the hotel is great for a cheap little getaway if all you're wanting is a bit of peace and quiet but keeping expectations realistic for the price is a must.
