Stayed at this hotel beginning of 2017 and it was fabulous therefore always prepared to return. Room was fine. Windows very draughty (was dreadful weather therefore noisy also). Dinner mediocre with very small portions. Gone into the bar for a drink afterwards which was very pleasant. Arriving for breakfast in the morning - peak time the sign in the lift advises so I imagined staff will be prepared. Seated at our table to be told service was self service buffet style. My husband had gone for the coffee and I set off to the buffet. What a disgrace! - the only two slices of bacon in the dish had more fat and grease than meat; four link sausages remained lifeless; I helped myself to the last spoonful of scrambled egg. I did not fancy the look of the mushrooms or the tomatoes and I don't like baked beans. Coffee weak and orange juice watered down. Required to ask staff to replenish food as my husband was about to appear. I returned my plate to the waitress as I could not eat the cold egg and sausage. Gone back to buffet for fresh food and was just as bad. Neither my husband or I ate or drank anything. Worse breakfast I have ever had in my life. Complained when checking out to which receptionist said she would take a note?
My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights over New Year and had a brilliant couple of days! Having read a couple of reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but I thought the hotel and staff were excellent. Our room had a view over the 18th and the sea which was more than we expected. Had dinner on Hogmany in the hotel restaurant and the food was really nice and staff very attentive. Arran bar had a really nice atmosphere; busy but always able to get a seat and bar staff very friendly. Rooms extremely clean and spa facilities were very relaxing. I would recommend Scott's Bar and Restaurant for dinner/lunch if you feel like venturing out the hotel For the price we paid it ended up being a real bargain. Couldn't have asked for more and will be coming back!
We got an amazing deal for this hotel, which, if I'm honest ...it did make me doubt the standard. No need. What a lovely hotel with lots of character. The staff really make the place though, super friendly, especially the restaurant staff - top class! Food was lovely, breakfast had a great selection too. Our room didn't have an amazing view, we could have upgraded, but I didn't go to sit in my room anyway (which was still lovely) I also had a massage in the spa .....which was amazing!
I booked a nights stay on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and was not disappointed. Food was lovely, nice leisure centre, staff very very friendly. Nice room too, very clean and had everything you need. We will be back
Fifth time staying in the Marine hotel as we love it. Great rooms, spa facilities, food and service. Myself and my husband go here every year during the Christmas holidays, it's so beautiful and relaxing. However, this time and last time the breakfast hasn't been great. This time especially, I nearly broke a tooth trying to eat my English muffin and my eggs Benedict was cold. I also had to ask twice for a mug and there seemed to be inconsistency in service. Some guests were brought tea, coffee and toast whereas others had to serve themselves. I can't criticise the staff at all though they do an amazing job. There just was inconsistency and not enough staff in my opinion.
My friend and I stayed in an itison voucher for dbb. On arrival we were greeting well and got into our room and visited the spa. The spa was nice, some parts not working but an ok experience for an hour. The restaurant was busy for dinner at 7.30, initially the service was ok with taking our order but we’d to request drinks. We both ordered med rare steaks. Both steaks arrived after a long wait and were overdone. Mine wasn’t too bad but my friends was ruined and completely over cooked. We sent hers back but had to wait a while for this as there were no waiting staff. No one asked if we needed anything else or checked in on us after we’d been served. Once my friend returned the steaks there was a huge wait and after 20 mins, after which I’d finished mine, we got another very over cooked steak. Totally cooked, no pink and dry. Again, we’d to call someone over to complain. My friend kept the steak as she was so hungry but no drinks offered to compensate and when we spoke to the male manager he assured us we’d not have to pay for our meal. Breakfast the next day was horrendous. We asked why they now served a buffet instead of their old cook to order service and the lady in charge told us customers don’t want to wait. We noticed on s small blackboard you could order fresh eggs so we both ordered poached, requesting specifically that they were soft and runny. We got our hard boiled eggs after a while but then the sausage and bacon on the buffet was empty and no one seemed to care that we were waiting for it to be replenished to eat with our eggs, even after asking twice. The result was that we didn’t eat the cold eggs or breakfast but both had toast. So disappointing!!!!!. We complained and were told we shouldn’t have helped ourselves to the buffet til the eggs were brought out, we didn’t!!!!! The buffet was empty when they were!!!! A totally disappointing food service, which couldn’t be refunded as our meal was included on an itison voucher. I wouldn’t waste a penny on this hotel for food, even if a good deal. It’s not worth any of your hard earned money.
My wife and I were given a night await at this hotel by our daughters. First impressions were it looked OK. Spent £20 to upgrade to a deluxe room, shouldn’t have bothered it was dated, torn seats, bedding and was extremely cold. Booked dinner for 6pm and when we got to the dinning room were greeted by nobody it was empty, apart for the 2 couples in front who were looking for staff. The dinning room was so cold we could not take our jackets off. Dinner I must say was enjoyable. After dinner we planned on going to the bar for a drink but were far to old so ended up going to bed for the night fora heat. 4 or 5 stR pricing for 2 or 3 star facilities
After an earlier family get together, we all decided to return for a family birthday celebration and were delighted. The staff could not have be more helpful from check in, to check out our visit was great. Thanks to everyone. We had our meals in the Truin Restaurant within the hotel, from breakfast to dinner and could not fault anything we ordered. I must thank Donna and Jane for everything they did for us over our 2 night stay making the birthday celebrations run smoothly by taking the balloons and cake and organising the table and surprises. Many thanks to the girls and their wonderful staff.
Booked the winter warmer package with the duluxe king room. On arrival at the hotel and it’s very nice, staff were welcoming and on first glance it’s a really nice hotel. Room 218 overlooks the golf course and the view is stunning ... however it is absolutely freezing inside. The radiator is not powerful enough to heat the room. The extra heater provided does not come close to heating the room. The bed which is meant to be a king is in fact two single mattresses pushed together. Extremely uncomfortable. The meals were nice, didn’t use the spa so can’t comment on that. Expected more to be honest.
We are just back from a 3 night stay. After reading loads of bad reviews we went with an open mind. Could not believe how amazing this hotel is! We arrived on the Thursday, our room was spacious and had a superb view of the golf course and aisla Craig and Arran. We used the pool and Jacuzzi for a while (the pool is heated with was a lovely surprise) Dinner was out of this world, a la cart menu. The chicken and beef dishes are to die for. The dining room staff were fantastic and very attentive, we didn't get the name of the wee Glasgow woman who was working Saturday night and Sunday morning - she was fantastic, a good laugh! The Arran bar was busy most evenings but we were always able to get a table. John And Erica, who worked at the bar all 3 night we were there were perfect, made up cocktails for us on request. Breakfast is ample always plenty of food to go around everyone (always enough for seconds!) My only detest was the arrogant 'member' of the leisure club who wouldn't let us use the Jacuzzi because we wernt members, left a big of a sour taste in our mouths on our last day. Troon town is only maybe a 15 minute walk away and there are lovely wee shops to nosey around in, and the sea side is lovely to just sit out and watch the world go by (even if it was freezing cold!) Big thank you to all the staff that made our stay even more relaxing. We wanted a few days away form work before the Christmas rush, and this hotel done exactly that for us and we will be back in 2018.
