Saint-Goustan, its port, is appreciated for its activities and half-timbered houses. It is known for having welcomed Benjamin Franklin, American scientist and statesman, on 3 December 1776, on his way to the Palace of Versailles to negotiate the alliance between the new American state and France.
Auray is very close to Sainte-Anne-d'Auray, a Breton holy place, the third pilgrimage site in France.
