This hotel was a perfect choice for many reasons. Firstly our daughter was staring AUT Uni close to Takapuna and secondly easy access to Downtown Auckland, both of which can be done from this location. The ferry at Bayswater is a ten min walk and only takes ten mins to Auckland, with no hassles. The bus to Takapuna stops virtually across from the hotel and takes 20 mins to the town where there are shops and restaurants and the beach. The room was spacious and well equipped and the staff friendly and helpful.
Very nice room, great view from room, lovely location, friendly staff. Sadly it ends there. We were there over the night of the last Lions/All Blacks match when this hotel and some other hotels price gouged atrociously. The worst problem is that the internet didn't work 95% of the time. I called reception and he rebooted the modem. No change at all. It was nearly useless. The bed was old and saggy. The bathroom products were of the lowest possible quality. The soap was scratchy(!) and the shampoo was a thick gel which was very reluctant to leave the bottle. Room refurbishment was spotty. The included breakfast was very minimal, nothing much but vegemite to go with toast. After two or three days pastries appeared, hurrah. The coffee at breakfast was foul. It wouldn't have cost much to make the service and facilities much better. Being really cheap on inexpensive items like toiletries seems to be very poor business. Four star building and location but way below four star on other things.
Have stayed at the VR Takapuna a few times over last few months. Rooms are always presented to a very high standard. But best are the staff - Ishneet on reception is always friendly, helpful and profesional a great start after tiring day traveling. Dinning room team always greet with a smile and great service. Nice, modern, clean and quiet accomodation.
First of all the staff, i have never met so many friendly and helpful staff in one place no matter what we needed they would make sure they helped to the best of their ability. The room was phenomenal veey clean and spacious pretty much had everything you needed during your stay. Lastly the location was perfect right over looking the harbour and the auckland skyline was a brilliant way to wind down after a long day. I would definitely return here if i travel to new zealand again wuthout a doubt.
It was ideal for us since we came with a baby and having a bedroom + living area made it much easier since we could put our baby to sleep in one area and close the door. Continental breakfast was disappointing - pastries / baked goods extremely dry and the fruit tasted like it had been taken out of the can and left in an open bowl in the fridge and was almost fermented. The 2% credit card surcharge that is charged on booking could have been advertised much clearer on the website. However overall it was a very pleasant stay - excellent value since it included breakfast and free return tickets to the city.
Sorry it has taken me a while to write this. We booked a cruise to New Zealand and Australia back March 2017 We waited too long to book our hotel in Auckland the day before our cruise and a lot of the hotels were booked. We were a little worried about if this one was located too far out for us to be able to get around easily since we were only there one day. But it was a short walk down to the marina to catch a ride to town area for us to explore. The hotel was very clean, well kept up, and our room was very nice size. There was 3 of us. The terrace gave a good view of the water which is lovely at night. The restaurant was small but very pretty with a terrace that over looks the water. The food was excellent. The staff was polite , friendly, and helpful they gave a free coupon for water transport to town. No complaints with them at all. They guy behind the front desk, I'm sorry forgot your name , was our waiter even later that evening. Gave us complimentary glass of wine. which we sipped and watched the harbor it was so peaceful. We were tired had a long flight in. It was very pricey or I would have rated it a five. But was very satisfied and we had a good time.
My daughter and son in law booked hotel after months ago. Polite enough service and price good as booked well in advance. I have stayed at 5 star hotel as and this does not closely resemble a 3 star. This is not a 5 star and I have printed off a report on minimum requirements. I walked into allocated 1 Bedroom appointment 102 this has to be one of worst hotel rooms I have ever seen. Dirty carpets scuffed skirting and walls dead ant on duvet cover dirty glass door on kitchen cabinet no spare towels no spare pillow no dressing gowns or slippers no tv in bedroom a 5 star room. If I wasn,t with family I would have left. The lady on reception was very helpful and upgraded us to a floor 2 room with water views. We did have a pleasant stay staff excellent food good and fairly priced. Your photos don,t respect actual rooms and I overheard a similar comment from a person checking in over queens birthday weekend. Please upgrade your rating this is not the best hotel in VR group as we have visited 2 other hotels in your group
Was pretty disappointed staying here, the guy on the counter was rude and didn't listen, just wanted to get his speech over so he could sit back down, they charged me for the room on arrival even though I had pre paid - again didn't listen. I didn't try the restaurant food as left as soon as I could in the morning. Won't be back.
Not sure why it is called VR Takapuna when it is at least a 15 minute drive from Takapuna.. A bit misleading, especially when you dont know the area so not sure when booking. Room was tidy and bathroom was clean and fancy. Breakfast a bit disappointing, ordered bacon, eggs, tomato and hashbrown etc meal and didnt come with any toast, butter or tomato sauce. Was also cold when it arrived. Also only 1 complimentary coffee in our room so we had to ask for more - maybe this needs checking when cleaning the room. Free ferry ride was nice though
This is a bit of a drive away from the main centre of Takapuna and you certainly wouldn't drive past it even if you were looking. However very spacious unit although the bedroom was a bit tight with the king bed, but possibly given this room because I was on my own and didn't need to get both side of the bed. Walk in shower is a plus instead of the shower over the bath that I found at a higher priced place in the vicinity. Although the grouting on the tiles could do with a curry up the pressure was great. But why doesn't any of these outfits have heated mirrors? Steamed up mirrors that take an hour to clear! On site restaurant is very suitable for a business trip and although nearly the only one there and the place wouldn't win any awards at Masterchef, the food was totally OK and saved a trip in the car on a cold wet night. 20% off for guests and a free glass of wine, breakfast for $11 not to be sniffed at. Very pleasant staff and unit was clean and tidy. Excellent value compared to others and would return again. They delivered more than I was expecting.
