This is a typical resort type establishment located close to (but not on) the beach in a nice garden with a large unheated pool. The style of the hotel is minimalistic and white colour/paint dominates the building and rooms. The floor of the rooms were of concrete and small rounded stones which was somewhat uncomfortable to walk on. The bathroom was small but clean. The breakfast was adequate but not more. Staff was friendly and serviceminded. The village/resort area of Nea Makri seems to live on former glory, it was a tired place with a lot of cafes and restaurant dotted along the seaside. The beach areas were not inviting. Apart from the Marathon area and a nice museum there was really nothing more to do other then a day trip to Athens.
We arrived to find out we had no place to stay! Hotel is now a refugee hostel. Very thoughtful and I’m happy the refugees are being housed safely however we would of liked a place to stay or to be informed of no places for us! Terrible service from easy jet and hotel management. We were sent to a different hotel that was absolutely shocking. Ruined our holiday completely and very scary not knowing what was going on.
We spent a night at Marathon until our morning flight back to the U.S. It was a perfect choice! Great hotel..beautiful pool area and it is right across from the ocean...walking distance to the town with lots of restaurants..they have a shuttle to the airport and we felt that we extended out Greece vacation by being at Marathon rather than just staying at the airport Sofitel...its a really good option that we completely enoyed! We are doing the same thing when we return to the Greek islands this summer as well...
Stayed the night before travelling from Rafinha harbour to Paros. Better than staying in Rafinha city center. Not very touristic area but that was fine and good value for money for one night (or 2 even). Swimming pool is there. Service ok. Bathroom ok. Clean. Low isolation of room's front door therefore a bit noisy at night when people go out and drink (valid for summer time only I guess).
Family friendly hotel. Close to all restaurants and supermarkets. Pebble beach and fishing area. Cannot enjoy on the beach. Clean and tidy place. Easy transport to city. Walk half a mile to street can get local food. Travel dates shown is not right as we traveled 2017.
Having visited Athens a few times, we wanted a hotel outside the city to recover from our flight and to start our 2 months of travel in Greece. We chose Marathon Beach Resort at Nea Makri for 3 nights and it was an excellent choice. Our room had two single beds pushed together which is not ideal however, this was a very comfortable bed with very comfortable pillows. The air conditioner was excellent, quiet and cooled the room well. The location is great – loved the area. The wi fi signal in the room was excellent as there is an individual router in the room as seen in my photo by the balcony door. This is impressive – few hotels anywhere in the world provide an individual router in each room. Amazingly we found several hotels in Greece provided this – wow, other countries could learn from this as the signal was lightning quick. Breakfast was simple, it was adequate, nothing special but then again, no one is going to starve. Our room was clean and cleaned thoroughly each day. We would stay here again.
We stayed three nites in October and found the Resort to be very clean, the staff professional, and the accommodations to meet our needs. The full breakfast got our day off to a good start. The nearby restaurants were great. There is a grocery store nearby and a farmers market on Thursdays. We had a couple of minor issues but they were resolved very quickly. Very close to the sea. The rooms are spartan but adequate. We brought a chair in from the deck so there would be seating for 2. My main complaint is that the lighting is not adequate. Only one side of the bed has a light and that is very dim, very hard to read by. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay
We spent 20 nights here in October as part of Exotic Tours Greece long stay. The hotel is not particularly well suited to long stay customers - rooms are spartan (one table, one chair) with too little space to store your clothing. On a positive note, rooms were cleaned daily along with a change of bedding and towels. Cleaning staff were polite and friendly. No face cloths are provided though one of the long stay group managed to procure one from the cleaning staff. Some of the pillows were pretty tired and our request for a replacement took 3 days to fulfill. The pool/hot tub were a nice visual but there were visitors to the pool were scarce due to the cold temperatures (hot tub same temp as pool). Each unit had a small balcony with two chairs and a table. The breakfast buffet included scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, bacon, weiners, and generally a cheese type pastry as well as 6 or 8 cereals, several types of bread for toast, croissants, a large selection of bulk peanut butter and jams, feta and a sliced cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, apples, oranges with an occasional banana and or watermelon. There was a selection of juices but all appeared to be a derivative of Tang - too sweet and unappealing. Week one the buffet seemed pretty good (hard boiled eggs were not chilled so were next to impossible to peel) but by week two we were hoping for some variation in the fruit and or other options. By week 3 we were eating at the bakery and/or local restaurants. The front desk reception staff varied from excellent (one young fellow was kept busy trying to keep our devices connected to the internet) to poor - when I called to inquire about the bus schedule she said they didn't have one and hung up on me.) Many promises were made by some members of reception but few promises were kept. The welcome dinner for 19 euro was a serious disappointment, cold unappetizing food, no wine included and tea and coffee were not available. One big issue was the price of drinks at the bar - they were the equivalent of prices you might expect to pay at a high end hotel in Vancouver. 17 Euro for a double scotch was unreasonable. This is an area that the hotel could really improve upon - if the prices were reasonable they could have made a lot more money from the long stay customers. Similarly tours offered by the hotel were priced significantly higher than outside or local tour companies. I would highly recommend the hotel review their bar prices and consider posting a bus schedule for all of their customers. .
First of all the "good", the staff are very friendly and hardworking. Nobody sits still at this hotel. The rooms are clean, the pool area is swept constantly. Breakfast is okay but can use some variety. The "bad"? The place is looking a little tired, needs a spruce up I think. They could offer some drink specials as the regular prices are comparable to that of an Athens night club or an upscale hotel which this is not. The front desk staff could use a course in customer satisfaction. Post the bus schedule up, have some Euros in the kitty so guests can get change, smile a bit more and try a little harder......you are close and this place could be really good too.
Nice hotel. Breakfast was terrible and the coffee disappointing but you can buy coffee for 4 euros a cup. It was a nice clean room for the price. Staff are very friendly too. The area is very quiet in October with lots of restaurants closed.
