King George, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Athens5.0 out of 5.0

My husband, 2 year old son, and I enjoyed our stay at the King George hotel in Athens. It is in a wonderful location, on the lively syntagma square and walking distance from streets full of good food and shops which can keep you busy and entertained for days. For anyone traveling with kids, the park which is walking distance has a similar feel to central park in NYC (although on a smaller scale), where you can wonder around for hours, feeding birds, taking kids to the large playground, visiting the turtles and other small animals, and walking around the pond and other picturesque settings. At the end of long days, the hotel has a lovely pool in the adjoining hotel which you are allowed access to, with relaxing spa rooms available for use as well. The hotel has an overall feeling of luxury and comfort. And if you visit either of the hotel restaurants, you get a lovely view of the Acroplis as a bonus!
Having arrived in the early hours to be met with a smiling and helpful reception staff and informed of an upgrade on our room, our stay couldn't have got off to a better start. The lobby area is huge and with marble and classic furnishings this is an amazing hotel. The room was outstanding with a seperate lounge for relaxing in. The bedroom was spacious with a dressing room and loads of cupboard space, the bathroom had acres of marble and a deep tub with shower. The rooms are serviced everyday to a very high standard and there is a turndown service in the evening. This is probably one of the best hotels I have stayed in, it's location opposite Syntagma Square and within walking distance of all that Athens has to offer is excellent. It also has The Tudor Hall restaurant on it's 7th Floor (reviewed elsewhere). An excellent stay with helpful and informative staff and a special thank you to the Doormen who provided us with insights and tips to exploring this amazing city. Highly recommended
Ideal for weekend stay. Great location - walking distance from major attractions. Helpful staff who answer with a smile. A great breakfast with a great view of the, Acropolis. Nice sized room and bathroom.
Blog from hellomissmay.com King George, a Luxury Collection Hotel has one of the best breakfast view in town. We arrived here at night, so, we didn't get to see much. But, in the morning, the breakfast view here was definitely a winner. It’s up on the 7th-floor with a terrace view of the Acropolis. Built in the 1930s, King George Hotel comes from an era of old world charm. It’s in such a good spot too, just 2-minutes walk from metro, 1 km from the Parthenon and 2 km from the Acropolis of Athens. What I particularly love is that King George Hotel rooms feature antiques, timber floors and marble bathtubs. Although our room was just outside the bustling street of Athens, we had a wonderful nights sleep. Thank you for a wonderful stay, King George Hotel in Athens. I have to say this is one of the most memorable breakfast I ever had in Europe. For more travel adventure, find me on Instagram @hellomissmay
We chose this hotel primarily due to both its location (Syntagma Square) as well as its affiliation with Starwood. We arranged a hotel taxi (nicer than a regular taxi we learned) to pick us up from the airport. Our driver was great and his car was new a spotless. We arrived to the hotel and the staff were quick to collect our bags and escort us inside. The check-in staff were efficient and offered us an upgraded room overlooking the square with a small balcony. The rooms are classic, in that they're on the smaller side, but very nicely equipped. The furnishings are beautiful and everything was very well kept. The bed was soft (as I prefer) and first-class linens. We did encounter some noise from the square (there was a protest that day, as is typical in Athens) but closing the windows took care of most of it, and it only lasted a couple hours regardless. The location is perfect and the Acropolis, Plaka, and museums are all within walking distance (or a short cab). Some nice shopping (if that's your thing), are all located around the hotel. The front desk staff was extremely helpful with suggesting some truly local restaurants (no tourists!) and suggested some other areas to visit. She also suggested some locations for dinner, but we ended up dining at the Tudor Hall restaurant at the hotel for convenience sake. It was a great choice. By Greek standards, Tudor Hall is a touch expensive (expected for hotel dining), but the food presentation and quality were first-rate. From a seafood ceviche to a wonderful grilled fish, it was delicious. We passed on dessert, but the waitress brought us a small plate of local sweets which was very nice. I would certainly recommend Tudor Hall for a greek fine dining experience. Request and outdoor table overlooking the parthenon...wonderful! We were only there one night. The next morning, we had breakfast (served at Tudor Hall). A great selection of baked goods, including many greek specialties, along with traditional offerings. The hotel arranged another hotel taxi for our return to the airport and again, was quick and efficient. We wish we had more time in Athens and the King George is certainly a great location to base yourself from.
This hotel really surprised me! I was expecting kind of an older and stuffy hotel but the property and room were very well maintained and up to date. We had a suite and I would image if I ever owned an apartment in NYC, this is what I'd want it to look like! The location can't be beat and is next door to the famous Grand Bretagne. We were pleasantly surprised to find a high end and delicious restaurant in house serving modern Greek food. Did not disappoint and was actually one of the best dining experiences we had in Greece. Would definitely visit again!
Very nice room but what matters most is the attitude of the people. Everybody very nice and thoughtful. They did their best to accommodate me, even things I did not think of myself! My room has no "view" but in such nosy location, so central, maybe it is for the best.
The location of the hotel is excellent, access from the airport via metro, walked to all historical site, staff is friendly and helpful, room is huge and clean Our room in on 1st floor, it can get noisy from the traffic. Hotel has no amenities such as lobby bar or in door pool (has to go next door hotel) It is the only hotel we stayed Europe, past 30 years, without breakfast included (33 Euros extra charge)
King George is one of the best hotels yet in my opinion, because of their service, respect and their rooms which are so relaxing. For the breakfast their service was so amazing, every corner you turn your head towered their is an empty Stands waiting to serve your needs. And when you sit to eat breakfast the view is wonderful. That was what I was looking for in a hotel which made me so happy.
Our visit to King George was positively civilized .... loved it! We overlooked the main square, House of Parliament and the Acropolis and our accommodations were impeccable. Beautiful wood herringbone floors, tall windows, and adorn molding on walls reminded me of elegant hotels in Paris. Simply lovely !
