Me and my 2 best friends (3 girls in total ) stayed here for a weekend as we wanted to be close but away from Athens. The premises are really beautiful and the temple and sea view breathtaking. We have booked a triple garden view but I am not sure if we were upgraded as it was end of the season (reception did not mention something) or this was the garden view, since we could see the amazing temple of poseidon from our balcony. The room interior was a little dissapointing as it seemed a little outdated and not taken care of. for example, the bamboo doors of the closet were worn-out at the corners. It also had cleaning issues. Breakfast was ok and the staff is really kind and helpful. The spa premises though are something else. We booked 3 massage treatments and were all excellent and thank you for this as it was very much needed :) In addition, we were allowed to check out late which was great considering our treatments were booked the morning of our departure and therefore we had the time to take a shower and pack without rushing. Visiting around, temple of Poseidon is a very close and a must-see and you may visit Lavrio for lunch or dinner -around 15-20min drive - if you decide to leave the beautiful cape Sounio premises.
We came to Cape Sounio for our honeymoon. We had stayed at another Grecotel resort in Crete previously and were thoroughly impressed. This is nowhere near as 'exclusive' as the name says. We didn't expect an early check in, but at the same time waited 3 hours to be able to get into our room, just communication of this would have been nice so we could have relaxed. Food was incredibly expensive for a buffet - other restaurants more reasonable for the quality of food. The website says that if you let them know its your honeymoon they will offer you some bits for free - my husband did try and surprise me in advance and made contact with the hotel - none of this was fulfilled. As asked online I brought our certificate to prove it was our honeymoon - no one congratulated us, made us feel special - it was just disappointing. The resort is stunning, lots to do in the area, beach and pool location great - it just felt a bit below the standard we felt we had received at other Grecotels and not as special a trip as hoped. Overall a good stay, just wouldn't say that we would return which is a shame.
We were met at Athens airport by the driver of our private transport to the hotel (which takes about 40 minutes) check in was very easy and we were given a cold refreshing towel along with a complimentary drink. We were then taken to our room number 644. It is a superior bungalow with a garden view. The room was a little disappointing and the bathroom a little tired. We did request a change but the the hotel we were told was full. This did not affect our stay. The hotel is built on the side of the hills and so there are plenty of steps to negotiate. The grounds are great. Full of trees and plants. The views from the hotel are great and the views of the Temple of Poseidon are tremendous especially at night when it is lit. Our first meal was in the Buffet Restaurent. The selection was tremendous and all the food was excellent and plenty of it. The wine is on the expensive side but we were quite impressed with the standard of the Greek wines. The staff in all the Restaurent’s were great and very helpful. The breakfast is again buffet style but there is something for everyone. The breakfast pastries are just the best. We also eat in the a la Carte Restaurent and the Asian Restaurent. We could not fault the food and the service by our waiter and waitress (Igor and Xenia) could not have been better. They were so friendly and knowledgeable about the food they were serving us and made us feel very welcome and at ease. As I said earlier in this review all the staff at the hotel were great but Xenia and Igor deserve a special mention. The pool area is great but it was the wrong time of year for us to swim as the water was very cold. But it was the end of October and the beginning of November. The beach area is also very nice with plenty of sun beds and yet another bar/Restaurent. Whilst you are here it is a must to go to The Temple of Poseidon as it is very atmospheric with some great views. We walked from the hotel and it took about 40 minutes. It is an easy walk along the road which was not busy at all. We have no doubt that this would change during the busy summer months. There is a cafe at the temple which serves excellent coffee and although we did not eat there the food that was being served looked good. We could not fault the cleanliness of the hotel. Everywhere was spotless. We treated ourselves to a massage whilst we were there and the spa area once again was spotless and very relaxing. The massages again were not cheap but were fabulous. This is a great hotel for a short break (we were there for 5 nights).
Stayed here for 4 nights. Whilst a little on the pricey side, the buffet was excellent. Nicoletta (lobby bar) and George (beach) were especially amazing. Thanks to all. Only small complaints- the service at the pool bar was average- not the standard of the rest of the hotel and the reception manager (male) was miserable! Thanks guys- we will be back
We stayed here exactly two years ago and it was superb. The hotel food and especially the dessert were fantastic, All the staff from top to bottom were excellent also. This time however it was not the same at all. We always had cold plates along with luke warm food with little real choice. At times the food was inedible as it had been left in the hot servers for too long. The desserts were the same every evening. The same thing in the same place each night with no imagination. On my last visit I along with all the other guests were spoilt for choice as the variety and quality was so good. The service in the dining room was not very quick and at times it was quicker to find things for yourself. Out side our room number 402 we had a large generator running noisily 24 hours a day which along with 3 days of late night music being played at discos meant that a good nights sleep was not going to happen, They also fill the hotel with conference groups at the end of the season who fill up the empty rooms and generally take over the dining room at the expense of the other guests. On our first night the General Manager arrived at our table and said out of the blue I must apologize for the inconvenience to you because of this large party and you will have a meal with all drinks for you and any friends at our expense. He did keep his word and we had a fantastic meal off 6 perfect courses for four people in the a la carte restaurant, Having to do this is a sign of how bad they felt. They can not afford to mix very large parties of conference guests with the full paying guests and expect it to all go smoothly. One night we couldn't get into our room as the key card didn't work and on another occasion there were no towels available on the beach until midday. They deliver free water to your room. It should come daily but didn't and we asked several times if the would leave 2 or 4 bottles so we always had water available to drink but on about half the times it didn't arrive. The place in general is now a little tatty and needs a revamp with a good team of staff along with better chefs. If the can produce a fantastic meal in the a la carte restaurant they have the talent available but not it seems the expertise to put it into practise in the normal guest dining room. One day we had boats with engines running collecting conference guests inside the area for swimming and snorkeling. A very dangerous thing to do when you have children and adults in the water at the same time, I feel very sad to write this review as on my last visit I had a job to find enough good words to express how good it was then. I also would mention that for those guests who are only staying with the breakfast only option that the hotel is isolated with no other bars or tavernas nearby to eat at so you will have to hire taxis if you want to eat elsewhere which is not a cheap option. You do have wifi everywhere and the best hot water always. There is not much else to do so you need a car for a couple of days, If you go to Athens by car make sure you have satnav as the driving is mad and there are only Greek signs to follow. Maybe if you go for the first time you will think it is better than I describe it but it was 5 star before but sadly now no more than 3 and I will not return.ever, We were staying for 10 nights at the beginning of October 2017. They have a large swimming pool but the water is very cold. Also all drinks are very expensive and I saw very few people drinking wine as the list is extortionate. A beer and a water in the dining room is 10 euros and it gets worse so take plenty of money!! They would sell a lot more if they lowered their prices. One more point is that there are steps everywhere so you need to be fit. If you are old don't go!!
I came with my husband for a three nights vacation (the first since our wedding). We booked the deluxe bungalow with partial sea view for 195 Euros (not a low price for low season). The room was small, old and not well kept, lacked privacy, the shower was separated by a screen, and it wasn't very convenient. It was not what we had hoped for and expected from a hotel at this level. When we told the hotel staff we're not happy with the room, and asked if we can change it (even with adding a reasonable extra sum), the only options they could offer us were either to change for a villa that costs 3 times more (!!), or to pay double for a room that was almost the same but wasn't available for all nights. All this, when the hotel is almost empty. We asked them to check if there is anything else they could do, but they didn't do anything and haven't gone back to us. Worst thing, when we decided we don't want to stay there and came to check out one day earlier (knowing we will not get a refund for what we have already paid), they only explained us why they are right and we are wrong. They haven't apologized or compensated us in any way. The manager was only interested in arguing, and left us with a bitter taste. We've never had an experience like this. So - no value for money, and bad service from hotel managers.
The location is lovely: a small bay with a nice beach. The rooms are spacious and convenient (make sure you're not too far from the main building where the restaurant is). The food is very good. The Poseidon Temple is in sight and is very worth a visit.
Magical place, superb service experience, great place for both families and lone travelers!!!! Kids club with great activities, climbing wall. Food is plenty and very good quality. Highly recommended!!
Absolutely Love this place - special part of the world ! Sounio seems to be the Athenians Summer Playground - holiday homes abound (okay, some of those not always in the best repair). But this Hotel is excellent - lots of marble, open spaces, excellent pool area and a private (apparently man-made beach). Sitting on the terrace of the first floor buffet restuarant looking across the bay to the Temple of Posiedon - cannot be beat ! Restuarant choice is good. I occasionally found the Main Course a little limited for choice if I'm honest, but that's just me, and that comment is almost churlish. The quality and variety is never in doubt - and if like me your not really a 'pudding person', you will be by the end of your stay - top drawer ! Villas (they ARE villas - no rooms in the main building), are dotted over the hillside in lush vegetation. From the Hotel its hard to make out there are apparently 180 rooms here. This really is a special place. If you're sensing a 'but', there was one, and only one. It wasnt the worlds greatest deal, staff couldnt help, and I thought it a bit out of place with the undoubted quality of this Hotel. To set the scene, we were a couple, visiting last week in September. It was winding down (the Hotel will close mid-winter). Yes there were guest like us, but there were also two conferences - is this perhaps conferences season. That was never an issue - we had lunch in the Pool Bar when delegates were munching, never an issue. But one night. One of the conferences had what sounded like a live band. It wasnt a very good one if I'm honest (wife is a proffessional musician), but it was a bit loud, it wasnt by the pool and sounded like it was from the beach. The villa windows and doors muted the sound a lot, but not completely. Loud enough that I couldnt get to sleep before it finished at 23h34. I suspect but dont know, at this time of year that conferences may be a bit more valued than normal guests. For those who know me, also know that I have checked out of a famous brand Hotel in the past over a loud live music issue. Cape Sounio is not in that bracket, at all, its a quality Hotel. I'd like to go back - I really would. But I'm going to have to find a way to avoid conference season . . .
The beach, the beach bar and the pool area are really wonderful, so as the lobby area. Breakfast is plentiful and of great variety. The room itself needs kind of renevation and has a slight smell of moisture. For its price, the room should have been more modern ,better designed and more luxuriously equiped. Staff is kind. Wifi in the rooms not that satisfing.
