Athenaeum InterContinental

We chose this hotel because I was familiar with Intercontinental in other parts of the world, because it was close to the main monuments and because they had a family room available. We were traveling with our 21 and 17 year old kids and weren't quite ready to get two rooms yet. We booked a family room and upon check in were pleasantly surprised to learn that we had been upgraded to an even larger family room with a balcony that offered beautiful partial view of the Parthenon. The hotel itself was beautiful, modern, well maintained and had professional friendly staff willing to help you with every detail. Our room was very clean and well equipped. There was a free shuttle to and from the monuments, syntagma square, etc and the drivers were accommodating (i.e. they would try to get you closer to your destination if on the general route). I am a rewards member of this hotel group so did not have to pay for wifi - would recommend signing up before you leave home to avoid charges. Our only complaint was the cost of food in the hotel - but after we paid 7-8 euros each for a coffee and juice - we just avoided the hotel. we used the in room equipment and then frequented the local restaurants/coffee shop in the area. Other than that minor irritation (pretty much the same with most hotels), the Intercontinetal exceeded our expectations.... (sorry we did not take photos of the room/premises).

Outside facade and lobby are 4 star, but rooms are very dated and more like 3 star hotels. Bad neighborhood with lots of graffiti. Staff are unfriendly. Breakfast is average, not many options.

Very nice hotel, but all extras are very expensive. Internet, TV, etc were all extra. Beverages at pool were all extremely expensive both alocholic and non-alcoholic.

I stayed on the Executive Floor and the service was very good. Great views of the Acropolis, with outdoor terrace a wonderful spot for evening cocktails and breakfast in the morning.

Excellent place to stay if you have a 1-2 day getaway in Athens.

The InterContinental lives up to it's brand - it's clean, modern, and the staff was wonderful. The location isn't too far from Plaka and the Acropolis - just a few minute cab ride or a 20 minute walk. But if you're looking for a hotel a vibrant scene immediately around it, this isn't it. Again, it's a great hotel and I really enjoyed my stay. I would definitely recommend it!

For the most part this was a great hotel. Unfortunately two dining spots in the hotel were unavailable for dinner. One was closed and the other had private function. I was very disappointed that the pool closed at 8pm. Room service food was good. Room was large yet uninspiring.

Excellent courteous staff and concierge. Large recently remodelled room, good business center and functional (but $) WiFi.

expected more from this hotel. Very loud, need shuttle to main tourist sites, not enough ventilation in the room. Staff was nice.

Good location. We were able to walk to plaka area and to the acropolis without a problem. it was very accessible to much of athens and the prime attractions

The hotel was great. Only issue was that the location wasn't central (wasn't walking distance to sites) but they have a free shuttle that takes you to Syntagma Square. Great service, wonderful views from the top floors.

I was only in Athens for a few days. The hotel was fabulous, but it was in the middle of the ghetto. It's a 5 minute walk from the metro, but you have to travel through a pretty sketchy neighborhood. The location is fine for business travelers or adults, but i would not travel with children here. The hotel staff was excellent and very helpful. The rooftop resturant is pricey but it has a perfect view of the acropolis. If you want to save money don't eat dinner and just get a bottle of wine to enjoy the view.

At first we got a smoking room that smelled, they moved us to a lesser room. We paid more for a room with a view. We got half a building on the seventh floor in the way of the view. Stay away from 740. The hotel is nice but I paid for a room with everything, with a view of the city and got a smaller room with a building in the way of the view that I paid more money for. Price for dinning where very high. Breakfast cost 45 dollar a person or 32 euros. Food in the city was very cheap. The hotel price where very high on food.

Great location to see all that Athens has to offer. A 10 minute walk, at best, and we were in the heart of the city, the Plaka, Acropolis, Olympian Zeus. The staff was super friendly, very courteous, and made traveling in a different country very easy. The rooms where very clean, large, and had everything a vacationer would need.

Spend the extra money and get the Business class rooms. It wasn't that much more, and the business class room was so much nicer than the regular rate rooms! Well worth the money. Excellent service, staff and very modern room. We would stay there again if we travel to Athens again.

Was very friendly staff, especially the concierge. We were disappointed that we didn't get tot eat at the restaurant on top of the hotel - must have reservation.
