Relais Villa Baldelli4.0 out of 5.0

I have to agree with all the other reviews. This is a wonderful place to stay near Cortona. I like being a little outside of the city. You could see the city from the Villa. The grounds are immaculate. It was such a relaxing break after having been in major tourist areas such as Rome and Venice. The Villa itself is 16th century and has such a wonderful feel to it. The jacuzzi shower was wonderful. My bed was very comfortable and I slept so well. It was wonderful to wake up and look out at the mountains! The staff is incredibly helpful. The only shortfall in my opinion is the breakfast. It was more than adequate but having stayed at other Italian hotels with major breakfast spreads, this one fell a bit short. But that being said, it was better than any breakfast that I've had at an American Hotel. I truly loved my time at the Villa and hated to leave. Visiting at the end of October was the perfect time. The trees were turning that beautiful shade of gold and the air was nice and crisp. It's a very peaceful place to stay and I would highly recommend it over staying in the town.
Let's start off by noting that my wife and I had a wonderful stay here at the Relais Villa Baldelli. And, I'll emphasize that the staff there is excellent and accommodating in every way and deserves special mention. The building is wonderfully "characteristic" and the rooms are chock full of atmosphere and they are large and very comfortable. The hotel has ample parking at no extra cost. It's a short drive to Cortona from the hotel and it has a very fine view of that town. Cortona is near to a number of Tuscan villages, like Anghiari in particular, that are worth seeing. And, it might be an hour-plus or more in high season, to others like Pienza and Orvieto that are essential to a vacation in Tuscany. In any event, the Villa Baldelli's location is a fairly good one in its overall accessibility to Tuscany's highlights. I'll mention that if the Villa Baldelli has any shortfall, it's the breakfast, which isn't particularly noteworthy. Still, it was ample and it did offer enough choices to satisfy just about any traveler even if it wasn't particularly inspired in the context of other Italian hotels of similar quality. But, that should definitely not be a deterrence to staying at the Villa Baldelli because it's not enough to in any way, minimize the overall quality of the hotel, which is excellent in all respects. It's important to note that this hotel isn't glitzy and modern in appearance in the "American" style. Instead, it actually envelops you in what we might think of as a Tuscan ideal that IMO enhances a trip to that beautiful region of Italy...the photos tell the story. I enthusiastically recommend this hotel.
We used Cortona as our home base for a few days in Tuscany. Relais Villa Baldelli did not disappoint. The grounds are beautiful. The room was comfortable and clean. And the staff was most helpful. A delicious breaksfast was served every morning either in a quaint dining room or outside--your choice. And try their own vineyard's wine. It was fabulous.
Stayed in this beautiful villa recently with my family including young child. Last minute booking and we were fortunate to get the last room. This was a classic room (the most basic) but was very beautiful and suited our needs perfectly. Beautiful decor, big comfy bed, bathroom with powerful modern shower, ample space inside and a little seating area outside in a garden patch right outside our door. Really lovely. Breakfast was delicious, the usual offering of yoghurts, fruits, pastries, cheese, ham, bread. Eggs also available. Breakfast outside area in the garden. Very restful. The pool was huge with ample lounger seating, very pretty setting. The house itself is also stunning. As this is a review, it's only fair to mention some downsides. Very limited lunch available in the hotel and expensive for what it is. Drinks also very expensive. This means if you want to stay by the pool instead of getting into your car, finding somewhere for lunch etc you can eat there but limited choice and v pricey compared to local restaurants. Bearing in mind this is a 4 star hotel this is a drawback... Only other little bugbear is the pool towels provided in room are only changed every 3 days. If you want them changed daily it's 2 euro supplement. Really this should not be an extra charge esp given the grass area around the pool gets quite muddy/dirty given the abundant sprinklers and so those towels get dirty v quick! Small complaints but there they are! Overall we really loved our stay and if we come back to the area would be very happy to return to this beautiful villa.
I discovered this Relais or Boutique Hotel trying to get a good access point in between Tuscany and Umbria. I was so lucky to get here. Most beautiful Tuscan villa I've ever been (visited Tuscany at least in 10 different occasions!). The service is WONDERFUL (in caps) the staff are the main actors for this to happen. It's has a wonderful view of vineyards and olive yards. The hills and Cortona Town is so near. The deco is amazing. The swimming pool is perfect, unforgettable breakfast and the Aperol Spritz by the pool ... I'll be back
The hotel is special with its view, the huge rooms, the furniture and the atmosphere. Everything worked well, AC, good beds, nice swimming pool, good breakfast and good cappuccino. The staff is truly friendly. We stayed a couple nights in 2 rooms with our teenagers. What a fantastic experience we had! Felt homely and relax after a few days in busy Florence. This place is warmest recommended. Will absolutely come back if we have another chance!
I've been to the Cortona area before but was not aware of this property. It's set in vineyard and orchard a few kilometers outside Cortona. My purpose was to visit Cortona, but this would be an ideal spot to serve as your base if one was doing day trips in this part of Central. If you forget to bring some necessity with you there is an outlet mall in Valdechianna nearby. The staff are very nice and the hotel is well kept for a building of that age.
We have spent three fabulous days there and are still wandering how for just over 100 Euros someone can offer such a great accommodation? The villa is in the middle of a large property that includes a small wine yard to make their own wine, a small olive garden, a well maintained golf course, a very clean and in good shape pool, and a garden with the variety of trees and bushes that could be enough for a small botanic garden. Our room was spacious, clean, with two windows, but a bit worn just to make it styled up for a real bedroom in the old Tuscan home. During our whole stay there the staff was very friendly and eager to help with such things like a shirt ironing or booking the restaurant in a town. What we have cherishing the most was the view of nearby Cortona. This beautiful city is visible from the ground of Villa B. from all the corners around. Absolutely amazing! Overall, the Villa B. is worthy to be considered either as a place for quite retreat or as a base to explore nearby cities of Cortona, Arezzo or even Sienna, which is less than 100 km away. Highly recommended!
We wanted to stay our entire time here...and unfortunately, were only ablke to stay one night. We stayed in the Suite and our friends in a Deluxe room...both were magnificently appointed while at the same time being casual elegance. The grounds outside beckoned us to stay and relax...the rooms called to come and kick back with a book or gather for drinks. Inside the main house/lobby, it was again refined yet casual. When we return to Tuscany, we'll book two weeks here!
We are on our 35 wedding anniversary trip and spent 2 nights here. We loved it! Built in the 7 th century as an Italian summer home it has been restored to its original form. It's like stepping back into time with the exception of modern pluming and an elevator. The gardens and pool area are stunning and breakfast is served outside if you like, in the garden. The pool is very clean, cold and refreshing. The is a small golf coarse on sight as well as a small vineyard and multiple fruit trees. So peaceful and romantic here. I wished we could have stayed much longer. What a treat to sit in the garden, listen to the birds and sip your favorite Italian wine!
