I liked this hotel. Everything was excellent ; the staffs , the services , the food . But I didn't like one thing in the room : the mattress was very soft and wasn't at ease for me. But overall it was excellent. I highly recommed it
Avoid this hotel like the plague. Frequently keen to host empty protocol and foreign dignitaries, you will be forced to use the dirty kitchen stairs after waiting for the lift for half an hour, with all lifts blocked by hotel for those whom they consider more ‘privileged’. If you do not want to be treated as a third class citizen at your own expense, go stay in any other hotel as this hotel does not know how to value its own well-paying clientele.
I like the hotel, clean and good for being safe to our western standard but it misses originality. The service is not personalized. But it is a good base to be in a country like Madagascar. I would recommend if for few days journey but not for very long stay.
OMG!! I have been standing at the reception counter for a 1/2 hour, 3 people working and the line has NOT moved, what are the hotel staff doing?! I have never experienced such terrible check in service before in HUNDREDS of hotels. Management needs to figure out a better system, it is beyond poor! Disfunction and disorganized, finally getting helped, credit card machine now isn’t working! Another customer in the elevator was complaining to me as well about the crap service, saying it “takes long than at the airport”. Would never stay here again, highly suggest picking another hotel off Trip Advisor.
I was not going to write about this hotel until I checked out and got the invoice for an extra breakfast, I will explain why. The hotel situation it’s ok, not the best but pretty good, the view from the rooms is good, especially if you are in the side of the lake. Rooms are ok, not good for a 5 stars in Europe or Asia, but good enough for this part of Africa. The personal, in general is helpful and correct, Breakfast is reasonable. I will say, everything is average, that’s why I wasn’t going to write about it. At the time of the check out, I went to pay for an extra breakfast and they told me the price was 20€. I asked them twice because I find it excessive but they say that was the price. I pay and got no invoice but only the credit card receipt. You may think 20€ is normal for a breakfast buffet in a five stars hotel in Antananarivo, but it’s not. If you go to any of the best restaurants of the city, for this price you will have a Foie gras mi cuit, as starter an excellent Cebu sirloin and a dessert. Not in one, but in anyone of the three or four magnificent places where you can have dinner in Tana. I know 20€ it’s not too much for an average breakfast buffet, but after paying the same amount every day for a delicious dinner, this resulted painful. This is is reason why I felt I must write.
In the past I stayed many nights in the Carlton and I had no hesitations if to recommend this hotel to my colleagues . However , things changed , while most of the staff is the old staff , eager to serve and with great customer's appreciation - management has changed and the new concept is " take as you can". A simple example : The hotel used to offer a shuttle service to the airport on one way and to charge on the way back - now the hotel charges on both ways and the price is 3 times the price of a taxi. The hotel is full of cameras ( as if to protect the customers ) and the feeling is the you are monitored all the time ... I am not sure I can continue recommending the hotel !!
The room was amazing, enough space and place to work. All the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The dining areas are well situated and a nice bar to chill after a day at the office. A very nice atmosphere. My room overlooked the lake and was an amazing view to wake up to in the morning. What an awesome experience.
It is clean and secure city center hotel .Wifi and electric generator is available .Breakfast has nice local fresh food.Fitness and outdoors pool is available.Friendly service is outstanding. There is brassiere and patisserie.
I stayed at the Carlton before and after an Operation Smile rotation in Antsirabe. Good food, hot water and reliable internet were a welcome experience. The price was steep for Antananarivo, I think, but very reasonable by western standards. Service was A+!
Stayed between 2 flights in this hotel. Although it is rather old fashioned, it is a good hotel. Nice breakfast with a lot of choice of bread which is not common in Madagascar. Swimming pool is large and has a nice bar and really good ice cream. The gym is brand new and excellent. Staff is really friendly. There is not much to see in the city but it is a good hotel to stay between 2 flights.
