Booked here with my boyfriend as a birthday treat on Sunday the 15th of April. He surprised me by upgrading our room to the Glen Esk suite! It was clean, roomy, well decorated and very comfortable. We used the leisure facilities in the afternoon and the restaurant in the evening, both were clean and well maintained. The meal we had came quickly and all three courses were cooked perfectly! We got a table at the window looking out over the grounds. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and although the hotel is situated right off the main road you would never know as it’s so quiet and peaceful! All the staff that we dealt with were very friendly, polite and helpful, especially the woman who checked us in, unfortunately I never got her name. The price for the room/upgrade/food and drink were all very reasonable and I would definitely recommend a stay here.
Omg amazing hotel. Hotel very clean , Spotless , room but small but very clean . Had everything we needed. Food brilliant. Breakfast fantastic with a great range of food on offer . Thee best . And it had a great swimming pool and sauna rooms steam rooms . So relaxing . Would definitely recommend and will definitely be goin back to a double tree Hilton hotel with a pool and steam/ sauna rooms . Very relaxing hote. The grounds are beautiful. Lovey views at the breakfast tables all over the gardens . Staff friendly .
First the hotel was okay all around. Room was fine, people are fine. But a major point deduction for the misleading website picture which features what appears to be a older castle type building. I presumed it to be part of the main lodging facility. Nope. Just a few suites and what appears to be administrative. The vast majority of the rooms (assuming it has maybe 150 rooms?) is in a typical motor inn type facility. Nothing memorable. Again, nice and pretty comfortable....but when you expect to be staying in a classic castle-like structure, and you end up in a Holiday Inn...well, there is no recovery possible.
We required an overnight stay in Dundee and chose the Double Tree as it was just beside the A90 road. Upgraded to a room on the third floor we were surprised to find there were no lifts so luggage is carried up the stairs. That was the only negative as out of nowhere staff came and whisked our luggage upstairs with a smile. Downstairs we tried the lobby bar for food and wine and it was very good with ambience and service. However in the evening we dined at the Maze restaurant which overlooks a substantial garden. Our waiter was superb and the food and wine first class. This was above our expectations and the bedroom with its modern bathroom was fabulous. Breakfast downstairs was traditional Scottish fare, the staff wonderful and my expresso coffee was as good as I can remember anywhere. Well done to the staff and management. The WiFi worked well too.
Staff excellent - welcoming, friendly and extremely efficient. Breakfast waitress a delight. Room exceptionally clean, bed very comfortable. What are management thinking with deep potholes on entrance and car park? This gives entirely the wrong impression of this hotel! Would recommend and would stay again.
Two friends and I visited Double Tree by Hilton for a bar lunch, as we had many times before. Sadly this was a disappointing experience. Having taken some time to access service, the result was less than satisfactory. A Caesar Salad came with a slab of chicken instead of the usual slices and no cherry tomatoes. An espresso coffee was plonked down on the table in a cup with no saucer and no spoon. Tea was served in a most unattractive cup with a teabag floating but no way of disposal. Service was slow to non existent. We will be looking for alternatives which is sad as this venue has been a pleasure to visit in the past.
This trip was a birthday treat from my hubby..we arrived Thursday 29th March leaving 31st. From start to finish we had a really lovely time. The staff were very welcoming and the surroundings were clean bright and modern. On entering our King Deluxe Room we were greeted with a decorated slate wishing me a happy birthday along with chocolates and a bottle of House Red n glasses. Never had this amount of forethought to a welcome before in any other hotel we have stayed in...oh and not forgetting that we also were given a lovely warm cookie on check In. Our room was large and clean..big bathroom separate shower and bath lovely big fluffy towels and the best of all..Mist free mirrors, and the best magnification mirror for makeup and shaving we have ever used..and in a good position for the lighting. Very Large TV and channels that work! HUGE bed, all the usual tea and coffee items, plenty of storage and hanging space and bathrobes and slippers competed our room experience. We enjoyed the bar and restaurant and as we were on a dinner bed and breakfast package had lovely food in the conservatory dining room each night. Food is well presented and very tasty but could do with a few more choices on the 'package' menu although you can add from the al a carte for a little extra..which we did and really enjoyed it. Breakfast is good with lots of choice. The leisure pool and sauna and steam room is a nice area..we used this both days. Towels provided so no heavy extra towels to put into luggage.. The staff are a credit to the hotel..nothing too much trouble..so all in all made my birthday treat and a first trip to Dundee a pleasure. Thank You DoubleTree.
Long journey for business-so a lovely warm welcome from lady on reception was fab! Had dinner in the bar: ham & lentil soup 10/10! Steak pie was a casserole in a dish with a pastry top cooked separately and popped on top, mash fine, tiny amount of veg: nice, but neededto be more. Waiting staff super-polite. Room clean, comfortable. Would stay again for sure.
My husband and I had afternoon tea here on Friday and I was quite disappointed with it especially as I had so enjoyed it last June, the cost then £10 per person which I thought was good value whereas it has now gone up to £13 per person which is still reasonable but the quality was just not there. I appreciate finger sandwiches are meant to be delicate therefore it's important they are flavourful, unfortunately I thought the selection provided were quite tasteless. The small plain scones on offer this time were slightly warm but a bit on the dry side, the top was very crispy, not the way a scone should be served. The small serving of carrot cake and coffee cake were quite nice but the strawberry tarts were not, the pastry case was very hard as was the strawberry itself. The fancies we had in June were lovely and included a small chocolate mousse, nothing like that this time. The scones and fancies on offer this time had a "bought in" look. The table presentation was also lacking, no little touch such as a candle or small flower vase which from memory we had the last time. I do not have an issue with the price increase as long as the quality is not compromised and in my opinion it has and for this reason it is highly unlikely that I will return to the hotel which is a shame.
We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. We did have a few issues with the room and ended up moving rooms but the way the hotel managed our problems was really good. Orshi on reception was immensely helpful and handled the situation with a great deal of tact and good humour. In addition, a reduction in price was offered without us even needing to request it - that was much appreciated. Anne running the breakfast shift deserves a shout out as she does a fantastic job. We would certainly stay there again.
