We stayed at Hotel Aurora for a week when in Amalfi. It was perfect. Lovely room, peaceful atmosphere, very helpful and friendly staff, great evenings on the terrace having a drink from the bar. This was my third stay at the hotel and I will be back.
I started booking the Hotel Aurora last December based on TripAdvisor reviews. I thought a few days on the Amalfi Coast would be a nice respite after hectic sightseeing on a cruise that ended in Rome. Plus neither my wife nor I had ever been there. We made lots of changes to dates, length of stay and how we were getting there. I had many email exchanges and phone calls with Andrea, the reception manager. He's wonderful and handled them all with aplomb. Two days before we were supposed to arrive at the hotel, we decided it made sense to leave the cruise in Naples rather than go to Rome and take the train to Naples for our hotel pickup. While the room we had reserved wasn't available for the extra night , Andrea was able to accommodate us in a standard room. He also arranged for us to be picked up at the cruise terminal rather than the train station. All of this would have been for naught if the hotel and staff hadn't been excellent. It's located right next to the beach and even has its own little private beach. It's a short walk (1 km or less) to the center of Amalfi. There's an elevator to take you from the entrance level to reception and the rooms. The common areas are decorated nicely with tile floors. Breakfast was on the patio overlooking the ocean. Our standard room was a typical hotel room, adequate for our needs but with no view. However, all the rooms have great air conditioning, which is a real blessing given the afternoon heat (90 +). It's no wonder why many shops close for the afternoon and reopen later. Anyway, we were exhausted and wanted to grab a quick supper and go to sleep. We ate at a waterfront restaurant about 100 yds from the hotel. Nice food and view there. The next day they moved us to our booked room on the top floor. It was beautiful and its patio was spectacular. It turned out that our stay was over the St. Andrew Festival so we got to watch fireworks over the water from our patio several times. We almost never went to the beach because the patio was so comfortable (and close to the AC if we got too hot). The breakfast buffet was excellent with many choices and some of the best coffee we had in Italy. Andrea gave us great recommendations for restaurants and we had some superb meals. We learned to love the subtle flavor of Amalfi lemons and appreciate the sweetness of fried anchovies that were just caught. Now why did I give it 5 stars (and would have given 6 if I could). My wife had had an accident three weeks earlier and had 8 stitches in her shin. It was difficult for her to walk any distance or up stairs (of which, there are many in Amalfi and the surrounding area) and she needed to have the stitches removed while we were in Amalfi. Andrea and crew did a magnificent job attending to her needs. Taxis are expensive in Amalfi, even for short distances (15-20 Euros for the 1 km ride between the hotel and the center of Amalfi). He found us less expensive transport several times a day. He tried three different medical facilities to take my wife's stitches out. This was tricky because we were foreigners and it wasn't an emergency. He eventually referred us to a local private doctor, got us transportation to the doctor's office and showed up there to translate for us if necessary and make sure everything was OK. I've never had a hotel experience like the Aurora. We hope to return soon.
This hotel is located at the edge of town with its own beach. The staff is great and they were all very helpful in making our reservations for excursions and restaurants. However, the walls are paper thin and the doors are hollow-core, very noisy, bring earplugs. The showers are big and the room had a good size bathroom. Would recommend requesting a beach view, our room view was a wall.
Best location in Amalfi at the end of town, quiet, quaint with stunning views and nightly sea breezes. Extremely relaxing any time of day or night and breakfast included!!! What a great value. Just recommended to another family member to stay in this hotel!!
This was our second stay and it was wonderful. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Andrew, who was superb and informed us of a room upgrade. What a delightful surprise! Our room was located on the third floor with a beautiful view of the Amalfi Coast. Andrew brought us a tray of welcoming drinks and snacks to enjoy on our private terrace. As always, the staff was professional and truly catered to us. Breakfast in the morning overlooks the water and it's like very picturesque. A short walk to the center to cafes, restaurants, shopping and transportation to Ravello and island charters to Capri and Sorrento. The hotel is quaint and located at the end of the street, which makes it easy to locate. Secure parking is also available upon request. Andrea is an excellent concierge and made all of our dinner reservations for us. Most of the staff does speak English, if you don't speak Italian. Hotel Aurora is a hidden gem and I would highly recommend this lovely hotel for couples and families. Be sure to book ahead because the rooms fill quickly. We look forward to another wonderful stay next year.
The staff were very helpful and spoke perfect English. Room was lovely too. Short walk to the town. We took a bus to Ravello. Definitely worth going. We ate at Villa Maria, fantastic setting. Also Grande Marina on the Amalfi seafront was great.
This Hotel is small and quant, but the service is beyond compare!! The staff treats you like family and every aspect of the time you stay is enriched with the warmth of not only the Mediterranean Sea but the wonderful people and the great village . This is an experience you do not want to miss! Looking out on your personal patio in the night, mornings for sunrise or at dusk is just breathtaking!!!!
We recently stayed here as a couple, we booked direct with the hotel to get a terrace room & were not disappointed. From before we arrived our communications with the hotel were great, we pre-booked the transfer from Naples airport which run smoothly, driving in Italy is a hairy ride at the best of times. When we arrived we were not disappointed with the Hotel, the room or the staff. The location is great about a 5/10 minute walk to the centre, but it over looks the harbour which is great to watch at all times of the day. The room & bathroom were clean and of a good size, the terrace was a great addition, giving us time to watch the world go by. All the staff were helpful & friendly, they made us feel most welcome, even a little note & glass of preseco on the terrace for my Husbands birthday. Breakfast on the terrace was most enjoyable. We did a sea kayak trip which we arranged ourselves which was great fun & would thoroughly recommend, just search Amalfi Kyak. We used the private beach on the last day which though small has a lovely swimming area, it loses the sun during the later afternoon, but you can always move to follow it, though not on the sun beds. Even after we left we have been in contact with the hotel & have found them most helpful. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel & if you can book direct for the best rooms.
Hotel Aurora was a pleasure!. We were on the beach, a short walk to the center and the staff was wonderful. We left early one morning to go to Capri before breakfast was formally served and they offered us coffee and food. They were always pleasant and cheerful. We will stay there again when we return.
The Aurora is a lovely hotel. The rooms were lovely and clean and comfortable. We had 2 rooms with a view of the sea from the balcony, not direct from the room, but this was still lovely and a bit cheaper. The hotel is at sea level so no steep walk up after dinner and as it was at one end of the town there was not passing traffic or people so very quiet but only a very short walk into town. The terrace had a fabulous view of the bay and we had a nightcap there every night which was a lovely end to each evening. Breakfast was served on the same terrace each morning and that was substantial with a lot of choice. The hotel has a small private beach but that was not accessible after 3pm which was a shame but it didn't spoil our stay. Would highly recommend
