I've been to this hotel before and, try as they might, there's still some leftover old Soviet mentality which affects the service standards. The room was nice but not enough outlets. The only open outlets were on the desk. I had to unplug the pole lamp to plug in my device, no outlets by the bed or anywhere else. The staff member brought me to my room and I asked him to turn on the tv, he didn't know how, he had to call someone from engineering. Is this his first time to assist a guest with the tv? Breakfast is very nice and very extensive, but the hostess greets you then says sit where you like. It would be nice if someone showed me to my table and then followed with coffee. Instead I find my own table and then have to waive my arms to find someone to bring coffee. I don't expect this at IHG and I don't see it at any other IHG property elsewhere in the world. We booked the hotel car, confirmed with front desk that the fare was prepaid, and when we arrive at our destination the driver claims to know nothing about the charge to the room and says he wants cash or card. We have to wait while he calls the hotel and they sort it out. I don't expect this at IHG either. It just sounds like lax management standards, improvement needs to start at the top.
One of the luxury hotels of Almaty. Big, comfortable, clean, great breakfast, taxi service, transportation from airport to airport with big luxury cars. Eventhough needs some upgrades, especially the materials used in the rooms, like tv, illumination, enough sockets near bed for charging your phones etc.
Been here for a one night stay last month, and was very pleased with the services provided. As our group arrived late at night I was happy to find the Lobby Bar serving Food & Drinks 24 hours. The room was a standard size, nothing too fancy - however very clean and good night sleep. Would choose again if returning to Almaty!
This is really five star hotel by all means: building, lobby, rooms, services, breakfast. Our room was big enough with view to big garden in front of the hotel. Sleep quality is good. Bathroom is large and well equipped. But the most impressive was breakfast: variety of different hot and cold foods, fruits and even caviar. So, we really enjoy our stay here. Highly recommended!
Commonly known as "The Ankara" the Interconti Almaty has been the top location to stay in Almaty for a while. Even though it is well kept - it now could do with a deco update. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The Breakfast is very good and the turkish restaurant serves fabolous food.
This is a nice hotel although the guest rooms could seriously stand a soft good renovation. But do NOT stay here in the winter. The rooms have NO temperature control and unless you like living in a furnace, you will die here. The rooms are positive pressure air controlled - which means that if you open the window slightly (that's all they open), it will draw the HOT air in form the hallway and keep any cool air out. I really enjoy winter and brought winter clothes but there is nothing that can be done to get comfortable in this room. The entire hotel is just too hot. The lounge is nice enough, the food quite good for appetizers at dinner time, and they offer free alcoholic beverages which is just about unheard of in hotel lounges so at least that's something. The breakfast buffet has quite a selection and the food there is good as well. Maybe it's better in the summer?
The staff at this hotel is exceptionally good. Always friendly and ready to help. I liked the turkish restaurant a lot. The spa is also well done. A huge and modern supermarket is about 15 minutes walk away. The hotel hotel has an elegant touch to it. Sadly I cannot boast about the rooms. These really need renovating. All in all a good stay and I would return
I stayed at the Intercon Almaty for five nights. The staff were very professional and helpful and had a ready smile and very willing to provide assistance. I was pleasantly greeted with a spread of pastries and nuts and a bottle of juice when I entered the room which I truly appreciated since I arrived at about 2.30 am. I was in a non-smoking floor/room with a view of the snow capped mountains. The extensive breakfast buffet spread had everything you would want during breakfast and there is an egg station which will prepare your eggs to order. Since the meetings were held in the hotel, I did go to the restaurant for lunch, which again provided an extensive selection of meats, vegetables, and desserts! Memorable dishes during lunch were the roasted lamb chops and liver and onions! Truly enjoyable meals, with very attentive wait staff who were always available to assist but never intrusive. The gym/spa at the basement level had a Turkish hammam and FInnish sauna. Definitely a unique feature of any hotel. Uber is available by accessing the FREE WIFI - FREE WIFI is provided which is great! As a rule, I do not use Hotel Foreign Exchange Counters because of the unfavorable rates - Intercon Almaty is the single exception! The rates are very good and it would probably cost you more to take a cab and get to get your Kazakh Tenge somewhere else. So I definitely recommend using the ForEx counter at the intercon. The room has consistently been clean and well kept during my stay. Complimentary water is provided and replenished everyday and fruit gel morsels are provided when the bed is turned down. Tthere is also a reliable and enjoyable Kazakh restaurant Gakku, which I will review in a separate entry, is a pleasant 7 minute walk from the hotel. The local area, judging by the high end vehicles parked on the street is fairly affluent and safe and I was never concerned for my or my colleagues safety. There is no shortage of cabs and private vehicles to drive you to your destination. Uber is available - just make sure you get wifi so you can order Uber back to the intercon. Thank you for a wonderful, stress-free and memorable experience in Almaty!
I haven't been to Almaty for almost 10 years and my return there was very pleasant one in great part because of the hotel. I came on business and the hotel provided me with the kind of service and amenities that helped me to be productive and at the same time to have rest after long hours in transit. The rooms are spacious and well furnished, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom well stocked and everything worked fine. This is not the newest hotel in town by any means, but it is quite well maintained and has an ambiance of some class to it. There are several bars and restaurants on the premises and they also have their own bakery. Breakfast buffets are very good an provide a wide variety of choices for different palates and tastes. The staff was attentive and friendly. They are eager to provide you with good service. Very positive impressions after my recent stay there.
Whether staying for business or vacation, you will not be disappointed with the Almaty Intercontinental. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with nice decor. Service all around the hotel (front desk, breakfast, etc) is very friendly and efficient. The breakfast is outstanding. The gym and indoor pool are good. Be advised that the hotel bar and restaurants can be expensive, but you will get good service. I have stayed here twice for business, and I highly recommend it.
