This hotel is a hidden gem! If you want to be right by the sea, but aren't bothered about being in the centre of Alicante, it's a perfect pick. It's important to remember that first impressions can be deceptive! You have to look beyond what the hotel looks like from the outside. It is a very ugly looking 'concrete jungle' hotel, which basically looks like a 1960s tower block built into a cliff. But once you walk inside, it's got a very modern feel to it. There's a stylish, minimalist décor and the room was fantastic. It was very spacious, with separate seating area with sofa, and a large balcony with a sea view. Lovely sunsets! There are no kettles/tea-making facilities in the room, but you can request one from reception. Location-wise, it is on the outskirts on Alicante, so none of the sights are within easy walking distance. There's a small supermarket nearby but it's in a very residential area. However, there's a reliable tram service with a stop right outside to take you to Alicante or Benidorm, or further afield. It's also great for coastal walks, with a lovely sandy beach just 5 mins walk away. It's a busy hotel, popular with all nationalities and it's easy to see why. Breakfast in the café is cheaper than the restaurant - and the portions are huge! There's some noise outside the hotel, but nothing excessive. The only slight problem is the lack of staff on reception - there's sometimes only one person on reception and a queue quickly forms, so you can be waiting there 10+ mins.
For a cheap weekend away in November, I couldn’t fault the hotel. The staff were friendly and let us check in early, they upgraded us to a sea view with a good sized balcony. Restaurant was ok but went in to Alicante or Benidorm everyday. Would return but as a couple of other reviews say - mainly for a short break not a week.
We stayed for a weekend break first few days in November. We found the rooms good for a 3 star hotel , free safe nice large balcony all to a good standard. The breakfast and bar food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated outside Alicante but is very close to a tram station linking Alicante, Benidorm and further on to Calpe and Denia. The hotel has tennis courts and a pool however when we were there the pool was not being used and there were no sunbeds probably due to the time of year. However the temperature was 25 degrees most days. The only thing we did not like was the noise from locals shouting in the early hours and children playing under our balcony. The hotel only takes up part of a large apartment complex who share the outside space. Would recommend this hotel for a short break but not for a weeks holiday.
Hotel in general was modern, very clean and staff were very friendly. Our room was spacious and we had fresh linen and towels everyday. The down side to the room was that it faced the tram line and you can hear every tram go by which was about every 15 mins from very early on. We did ask for a sea view on arrival but there were none available. The walls between the other rooms and the corridors are VERY thin!!! you can hear EVERYTHING in the rooms and corridors around you. You can hear other guests at the toilet (actual hear them showering, peeing, pooing and farting). There was actually 2 packets of ear plugs provided in the bathroom next to the complimentary toiletries. We did not eat at the hotel or stay around the pool but did have the odd night cap there. Despite the noise it is a canny little Hotel for the price. It is about 25 mins walk into Alicante. There are buses outside the hotel that take you into the City and the tram is about 15 mins walk from hotel. A taxi cost us 6 euro from the City back to the hotel. Alicante is a great place and we had great weather
This was a British Airways holiday and what brilliant value. We arrived early but reception were happy to let us go to our room. Our allotted room didn't have a sea view, but because they weren't busy another 36 Euros bought us 4 nights in a brilliant room with a sea view! Breakfast was very filling and good value at 6 Euros. Well done B.A. and thank you Hotel Albahia!!
A nice relaxing place to stay in a quiet location but within minutes by tram or taxi into Alicante town. The reception staff member on duty (Monica) ensured a warm welcome on arrival and was helpful throughout our stay. The hotel was clean and tidy, with the air conditioned rooms a good size and spotlessly clean. Our room looked out towards the sea and had a balcony that you could sit out on to relax. The restaurant and café offered a good range of food and drinks, with an outside bar offering snacks and drinks during the day. The outside swimming pool also had a poolside drinks hut, and the well equipped fitness centre was clean and air conditioned. The inexpensive tram into Alicante or along the coast was a comfortable seven minutes level walk from the hotel. Highly recommended.
Hotel from the outside is deceiving. Inside it's very clean, rooms are a good size clean and linen changed daily. Staff were friendly enough, we stayed half board which was a disappointment! The food was terrible... menu is very limited and only vegetarian option was a salad! Didn't expect to be paying all the money we did to eat a salad every night of our stay! Our first night I asked for a toastie with chips. Was told this is possible for one night only! Had jet2 and our travel agents speak to the hotel regarding the food but nothing changed. Hotel itself is a 5 minute taxi ride away from the main centre of alicante. We also jumped a bus from the station into benidorm to spend a day there. Our room was beach view which was lovely to watch in the morning and evening. Pool we didn't go go, found it quite strange how far away it is from the hotel itself. Safe in the wardrobe in the room, €1 to use with the coin returning each time it's opened. We were only in 5/10 mins when reception brought us tea and coffee making facilities which was good. No fridge in the rooms. Breakfast we had toast or croissants, hot chocolate/coffee. Attached some photos of dinner choices we had.....
hotel is some way outside Alicante city but the regular and cheap tram is very good. Area around hotel is very hilly so would be cautious is elderly or have mobility issues. Hotel itself is clean, with very helpful staff. Bit isolated at night if travelling alone
Overall really happy, good sized rooms, clean and comfy although pillows are not good Reception have a full range of everything you may need from shaving kit, tooth paste etc all free. The safe in the room in free, we also had a fridge put in our room, again no charge. Expensive drinks, double the cost of the bar located under the hotel Location, just three restaurants near all used by locals and around 30 min walk to Alicante ten min walk to the tram stop or a nice beach. Food, good selection of breakfast, always quickly topped up, lovely fresh eggs Evening meal is a la cart and good portions, well cooked and a choice of four options for each, starter, main and dessert. I am very fussy and only one evening i struggled to find an option, no vegetarian option that day, staff helpful and friendly as their is no description as to what the meals are, ie. Pork Volcano ??? we ordered this and is was just a plate of pork. One evening a bus load of Chinese tourist were pre booked in for a meal and they had priority! we had to sit in the bar for our evening meal that night, this is not good, felt discriminated against, we are paying guest, pre booked in. Pool, it closed at 3pm - 4pm ??? you have to leave as the life guard goes for lunch, why cant they let you stay and put up signage saying you are responsible for your own safety??? never know this before. The sea view rooms are quite noisey as above the hotel are people living in flats and the hotel rooms are above their garages, noise of cars, motor bikes and garage doors when they are going to work and returning.
When I write my reviews I also give a general overview of my trip which can help travellers • Check in was quick, our room faced the beach, some people have complained about facing the wall, assuming this is the front of the hotel. Don't really understand the gripe there to be honest as you not going to spending all day in the hotel. Facing the beach was not amazing as we had views of the garages and tennis courts but again didn't bother us as we didn't stay in all day • Fridges are not normally provided but did request one and it was provided Free of charge, decent enough size to store milk, water, drinks etc • Kettle was also provided when requested, I am sure it didn't boil properly but it was ok, if I mentioned it they would have changed it • Room could do with blackout blinds. • Room was very clean & modern, basic but comfortable. Beds were comfortable, you are provided with some toiletries but I would recommend bringing your own as I did try some shower gel and it seemed to dry the skin. Towels are provided daily and rooms are cleaned daily, Aircon worked fine. There is a safe in the room which we didn't need to use, reception can explain how to you it. • Breakfast I think is 6.5 E per person which we didn't use so can’t comment • Wifi worked & very reliable • Location of the hotel is a bit out from Centre of Alicante, around 15 mins on the bus, I think around 4 stops. There isn’t much to do around the hotel, there is a small shop nearby which we never used as we did go once and it was closed, as we spent all day in the centre we brought our goods from there. There are few shops on the main road opposite the hotel but I think that's it. • Swimming pool: remember to take 10 E deposit for a towel. • Getting to Alicante, I think its bus 21 or 22, to get to Alicante cross the busy road and wait at the bus stop, the electronic signs will tell you how long is the next bus, I think its around 4 stops to Alicante Centre, When getting bus back to the hotel wait on opposite side and again same bus 21 or 22. Price is around 1.45 E each. • We got the taxi from the airport to the hotel and was charged around 32 E which was a bit expensive, I think as it was just after 9pm they charge extra, we was going to take the Airport bus no 6 but wasn't quite sure where we need to come off and then catch 21 or 22 to the hotel but its pretty easy. Get the bus from the airport and then ask driver to drop you off at the main square Plaza Mar, (the stop you need to get off is near the main area where the fountain is). From here you can get the 21 or 22 bus and its around 3/4 stops, when going to the hotel look for the hotel sign Hotel Al Bahia (will be lit at night) and then come off at that stop. Airport bus charges around 4 E and then other bus is 1.45 E, if there is only 2 of you can save quite a bit. The Hotel is located down a narrow road, firstly when you get off the bus you will have to walk around 5 mins on your right and then there will a steep road down hill, if you walk all the way down and then follow the footpath down past the shop and keep going you will find the hotel. • Tram station is around 10 min walk from the hotel, turn right on the main road and walk down. You can get the tram to Alicante or Benidorm, We took the bus to Alicante as its easier. We did go to Benidorm, it took around an hour, look at the electronic displays and it will tell you where you are at. Pay on board using cash or cards, normally there are 2 machines on board so if 1 is out of order try the other, Trams are cheap, it was around 12.5 E return to Benidorm. • Plenty of shops and restaurants in Alicante Town centre, Not going to go into too much, Santa Barbara Castle is opposite the Beach. Large shopping centre is just near the castle. As pointed out by an earlier reviewer the hotel is in a quiet spot but this means a good night sleep, no late night noise etc and its pretty easy to get to the centre Sorry it's a long review but hope it helps Enjoy
