The hotel is one of a nice hotels to accommodate in Algeria. The check in speed was slow due to credit card authorization problems. The free Wi-Fi increases the satisfaction. The room is big and clean. The sleep comfort of the large bed is not satisfactory. The lobby had live music until 10pm. I suggest for all purposes.
I had a great experience at Sofitel hotel, the staff, the service all were great, at breakfast they'd always welcome you with a smile notably Mr Oussama, great guy he recommanded me for a spot with a garden view at Difa restaurant.
We've held our first corporate event there, the staff was very friendly and helpful, they were present all along checking that everything was going as planned and if we needed something. Jumia Travel.
I would like to share my experience within this hotel for the last few years. For any business of personal trip, this hotel is the place to be. It's very clean, calm and comfy. In addition, the service is really great and the staff is efficient and reactive to any kind of request. A special thank to Mr Kamel the housekeeper of my stay this time who is great and Mr Toufik the room valet for their amazing assistance! Outstanding service, thank you and keep it up. Kind regards, HS
If you are on a business trip, this is the recommended hotel to stay at. It’s located in the middle of Algiers, the underground metro station is near it, a very nice old garden with vintage plants is a walk-in distance, security is well taken care of, the hotel staff is very friendly, the service in general is good, there are 3 main restaurants (the main one for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it is mainly open buffet, the traditional Algerian food restaurant that you should try (nice lamb and nice couscous and try the black couscous), and the Italian restaurant but this one is not always open (nice pasta and pizza). The only bar there is the lobby bar where most of the residents and some visitors are keeping it busy and where you can also watch a soccer game.
Better than other five stars of Algeria. Visited Bar sometimes, tasted excellent mixes by bartender Amina. Also wonderful service. Wonderful view of the sea., the garden & Monument. Good house keeping.
The Sofitel Algiers Hamma Garden is a top-notch hotel: excellent service, great rooms, good breakfast. However, on the down-side: no shops. For example, I was wanting to write a few postcards, but no magazine shop/postcards. No convenience store. This is needed, as the hotel is a long walk to any stores in Algiers. The worst thing, however, was the bar. The cocktails are excellent -- perhaps the best in Algeria, although rather pricey. We were at the hotel the evening of December 31st, and I and my wife, along with other hotel guests, were understandably migrating to the bar to usher in the New Year with a cocktail or two. However, around 11 PM, the waiter was calling for "last drinks"!!!! Can you believe it? The bar closing at 11 PM on New Year's Eve? Is this heresy or what? Numerous hotel guests were turned away. I was under the impression that the bar was open later, but even if it's regular closing time was 11 PM couldn't management make an exception and allow their guests (mostly foreign) the dignity of celebrating this important annual milestone? Doesn't the hotel chain like money? Ridiculous! Perhaps New Years is barely celebrated in Algeria's north, but surely management of this French hotel chain realizes the importance of the holiday to foreign guests. On the positive side, being a guest entitles you to an armband that grants you entry into the adjacent Hamma Gardens in a private entrance. On January 1, it seemed that half of Algiers was strolling in this beautiful park, and the main entrance was jam packed with people waiting in line to buy tickets at the main entrance. Important note: Try to book this hotel (or any hotel in Algeria) without paying for it in advance, and pay for the hotel in cash that you exchange at the black market, where you get 30% or so more than at the official exchange rate (that you get when you pay online or with a credit card)
I don't even know from where to start! I was in a business trip to Algiers and as the habit goes Sofitel hotels are always my first choice and guess what? BIG NO! First the room was horrible, old furniture, TV not working, dust on the carpet, and I had to ask for towels twice! The food took more than 30 mins to arrive and it was cold I couldn't even finish my meal. It was noisy I had to wake up so many times at night because I thought someone was knocking at my door while they were knocking at the other room. And the best part: I was harassed by one of the hotel guests and he actually followed me to my room to ask me out! Definitely not going back.
Spent 2 nights at the Sofitel. The rooms are quite dated but the bathrooms are nice and modern. Very comfortable bed but the room was so hot even though i tried putting the aircon on. Fortunately the window opened so i could get fresh air in there. It is the staff that really make this hotel. Everyone from the security guard, to the concierge to check in to the waiters were super friendly and helpful. We had drinks at the bar and dinner in Mordjane - both were great. Thanks to the concierge for helping organise our rather rapid trip to the casbah which was challenging not only due to the fact we were time constrained but also due to President Macron turning up right at the time we had planned! The hotel has direct access to the botanical gardens which are beautiful and nice to stroll around but if you are a woman don't go alone. There were few families around but plenty of groups of young lads which left us feeling a little uncomfortable. Avoid the zoo at all costs - one of the most depressing places i have ever seen. Finally taxis are cheap and easy to arrange at the hotel but the Algiers metro is modern, clean and safe and there is a stop 5 minutes away.
I often stay at the Sofitel Hamma Garden Algiers for during my business trips since 2014. I had a pleasant stay most of the time and have no big complaint to make. Overall the hotel is good and comfortable, but for a Sofitel (five stars hotel), it should be a bit better. You can feel the hotel starts aging and needs to be refreshed and modernized a bit. The rooms are not big but are OK. The rooms with odd number are on the Botanical Garden side which is the better choice, except when there is a party at the terrace bar at night. On the even numbers, rooms give the view on the port. Not really nice view but you can hear the boats' horn during the night and the cars. Windows of this hotel are not correctly sealed when closed so it's not soundproof. A bad point. The Sofitel's MyBed bed however is excellent, you'll sleep very well (hopefully, for an hotel !). Facilities: big pool half-covered, a fitness center and a sauna (often malfunctionning on the men's side). Restaurants are good: El Mordjane (algerian) has nice decoration, Azzaro (italian) is fine cuisine but a bit expensive. Le Diffa offers buffet or à la carte, it's also where you'll have the breakfast (varied enough). I also often use in room dining service, which is always efficient (within 30min) and good. The staff has always been friendly and efficient, I have never had to complain about that. The hotel's location is not that good, nothing much to do besides the Botanical Garden which is worth a visit. As a hotel's guest you can ask for an access key and use a side entrance which is directly from the hotel's parking. Nice to know. Overall, a good hotel but needs to be modernized a bit.
