We stayed here 2nd week of october 2017, The hotel itself is clean and tidy, most staff are friendly and helpful. All inclusive drinks are ok but the food is I would say 2star at most, if you like chips for breakfast you will be ok. Praia da rocha itself is lovely the beach is fantastic. We will visit again but not at this hotel.
Hotel was nice enough room fantastic had 2 balconies people we met were great. The food was not great always seemed the same and not hot. Staff were lovely and could not have been nicer. The area is lovely beautiful beach and nice restaurants loads of Choices
just1hr 20 mins from airport depending on how many drop offs,Was told in portugal that rooms are usually available from 2pm, we arrived about 11am & our room was ready, reception staff are very courteous, we asked for extra swipe card for the room & was issued one no problem. We got to the room and thought we had arrived in a dancehall it was huge & equipped with nice furniture, fully equipped kitchen although a little dated & rough around the edges, double bed in bedroom was extremley comfortable wow what a bonus. bathroom had shower over a bath, balcony 2 chairs & table. The apartment we could not fault although as said a little outdated but not a problem at all. Pool area is opened at 9am every morning so no saving sunbeds at 5am as we've previously found at other hotels. Childrens pool needs looking at as there are tiles missing on the floor. Lots of sunbeds needs replacing they've just about had it. No entertainment as stated in brochure, we didnt find this an issue as when we stayed there was a lovely character called Billy whom made everyone laugh.I think there was something in the water bcuz everyone wherever they came from were super friendly. Ths next part of my review i write with a heavy heart. Breakfast was good, lunchtime food was good but always just warm even when it had only just come out of kitchen, evening meals were the same as lunchtime & again just warm, my wife works in a kitchen as a cook & did share her concerns about this with me. I spoke with our rep who said to give it a chance, we tried again but ended up going out for our evening meals rather than cause a fuss. Yes it is only a 3*hotel but food should be piping hot when its just left the kitchen. Every member of staff at this hotel are really lovely people & made our stay enjoyable. Would stay again but not all inclusive.
Myself and 2 friends have just returned after 5 night stay and it was what we needed, hotel is very clean then room are perfect. The food was nice but very much the same after 5 days but was always nice. If I could change one thing would be having a bar to sit at in the evenings we found ourselves either back in our rooms early or having to leave the hotel to find a local bar which wasn't what we wanted to do every night. The pool is lovely and the staff are really friendly and always ready to help. It's about 1 hour from the airport depending on how many other drop offs before. The Hotel seems to be good for families, older people, young and people with disabilities. Our over all experience of this Hotel was really good.
This 3* hotel was great, its location very close to the main resort and two fantastic beaches, the area is stunning. Arrival was swift, my room was not ready, but I was able to use my AI. The pool area was good, some road noise as the hotel is next to a busy road, lots of sunbeds, some of them could do with some TLC, but the area kept very clean, with plenty of tables by the AI bar, only two are reserved for paying guests. I had a 7th floor apartment which had partial sea views, it was huge, tastefully furnished, the kitchen was a bit dated, but seemed well equipped for those self catering, great cozy bed and very big towels. Room was spotless every day. The restaurant was spotless, tables cleared quickly. The food was average AI with enough to chose from, always hot as were the plates. I would not like to go in high season as I thought the buffet area was quite small, but well laid out. They provide a basic breakfast bag for early checkouts. People were moaning about no entertainment, it states clearly on Thomas Cooks website that there is no entertainment. Those people who complained about the food should stay 5*and pay the prices. There was nothing wrong with the food. I want to thank ALL staff, they were great, funny but professional. Thank you for a great holiday and I hope to see you again in the future.
I know this is only a three star hotel - but everything about it is so good that I couldn't have given it a lower score. From being amazed at the size of our accommodation - yes, the kitchen fitting are a little tired - it's a three star hotel, remember - blown away by the staff, from Tanya on the first day, to all the staff in the restaurant, pool bar, cleaners, and then the food, we couldn't fault the place. On the second day I slipped on wet tiles in the bathroom. Husband went down to tell reception. They were very concerned, contacted our Thomas Cook rep, kept asking after me. Even the cleaning lady was solicitous and wished me well as I lay on the bed. The front desk asked the taxi driver to take the least bumpy road to the hospital (and that was also a good experience). Food wise, we'd gone all inclusive, and were amazed at the choice. Great salads, plus salad vegetables. Vegetarian options, real Portuguese food, superb fish dishes, and though I'm not a cake eater, the chocolate mousse was amazing. Yes, the breakfast was always the same - but what's to complain about. Cold meats and cheese for the Europeans, fried eggs, boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and baked beans. Cereal, yoghurt, all kinds of fresh fruit. And what I particularly noticed about the food was the lack of waste. As a cook myself, I was impressed that vegetables from one day turned up in soup the next. The special nights (Algarve, Portuguese, barbecue) gave us the chance to try local food without paying for it! And the included alcohol - red, white and rose wine, local spirits, local beer, were all excellent. This was one of the few holidays I've had when I'd willingly have had another week. Portugal is lovely and this hotel only adds to its charm.
Just spent a thoroughly enjoyable 11 nights all inclusive at the Smartline Club Amarilis and was sorry to have to go home. For the price we paid it could not be faulted, a good choice of food at all meals, including two fish choices, two or more meat plus vegetarian and kids choices- something for everyone. I did however hear someone complaining that the food wasn’t “English “ enough, so if you are looking for a Sunday roast and fish and chips this hotel is not for you. The hotel has a Large swimming pool with plenty of sunbeds, large spacious rooms kept spotlessly clean, and in a great location just a 5 minute walk to the promenade. The friendly hardworking, helpful staff all speak excellent English and are happy to help in any way they can. One tiny grumble is that beer and spirits are served in plastic glasses, and that there is no real entertainment, other than that baring in mind this is a 3 star hotel a very enjoyable, good value holiday!
Good sized 1 bed apartment with sofa bed in living room fully equippeequipped kitchen and balcony. Good access for disabled people friendly staff, good food and nice pool. No Entertainment in the day or evening tho
Lovely hotel with large apartments. And the staff are lovely. But the food is very disappointing. Luke warm at best. Who wants cold scramble eggs, or cold chips ! Bar area very small in hotel. Also not many tables and seats in the all inclusive bar area by the pool. Nowhere to really sit inside of an evening. And no real entertainment. We stayed 11 nights and they only had a quiz. The area of Praia da Rocha itself is lovely and we would go back, but not to this hotel. Beach is less than 10 minutes away from the hotel. But there are alot of steps down to the beach.
Just returned from a weeks stay at the Smartline Amarilis in Praia Da Rocha and had a lovely time. This hotel is ideally situated for closeness to the beach and restaurants, but just far enough away so you can also enjoy the peace and quiet. The hotel itself offers self catering accommodation or fully inclusive, and all the rooms are large with sitting rooms, balcony, and a large kitchen with fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, etc. The only downside is that the rooms are a little dated, and could do with a bit of a refurb. However, that said, it's clean, tidy and functional. I wasn't planning on staying in the room all day anyway! There's a large outdoor pool, a baby pool, and pool bar for your drinks and snacks. The pool area remains closed until 9am, so there's no reserving the sun loungers. Any towels left unaccompanied for over an hour are removed and handed in at reception. This time of year however, there was always plenty of beds spare. The hotel also has a tennis court, large modern gymnasium, indoor pool, massage and beauty treatments are also available at a reasonable price. The food is a self service buffet style, comprising of a continental style breakfast, midday lunch and evening meals. There's indoor and outdoor seating with a barbecue on Saturdays. The menu changes each evening. It's difficult to judge food, as everybody has different likes and dislikes. Personally, I found it ok. There was a couple of nights where it wasn't to my taste, and a couple of nights where I went back for second helpings. They try to please everyone as best as they can. From this hotel it's a 5min easy walk to the beach. Portugal is well known for its beautiful beaches, and you won't be disappointed here, as the beach of Praia Da Rocha is regarded as one of the nicest in the area. There's steps down to the beach, or walk along a bit further to gain access to ramps making it easier for push chairs etc. All along the beach front are bars and restaurants and very reasonable prices with amazing views. So even though I was fully inclusive, I found myself eating out a lot, especially midday. As well as all the beach bars and restaurants, there are loads more at road level, giving you the opportunity to sample the night time entertainment in the resort. The hotel itself doesn't provide any evening entertainment, so it's very nice to have all this on offer within a few minutes walk. All the shops are open late into the night, so is the super market. Bottled water isn't provided, so if you want water for your room and to take out and about, you can pick it up at the local supermarket just around the corner. 2mis walk, you pass it on the way to the beach. All in all, I had a lovely stay at the Amarilis. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, speak perfect English, and nothing is too much trouble. If you're on an early departure, just let them know, and they will put together a basic packed breakfast for you. Like I said, the rooms are basic, no frills, and a little dated, but it's not a 5* hotel, nor does it claim to be. It's a clean and comfortable friendly 3* With one of the most beautiful beaches on your doorstep, and so much to see and do, including some fantastic sight seeing days out and boat trips, who wants to sit in the hotel all day anyway? If you want 5* , then go out and pay for it. Personally, I just wanted friendly, comfortable, all inclusive, in a fantastic location in the sun. And that's exactly what I got. I hope to return again next year. Enjoy beautiful Portugal.
