Like some other reviewers, it is hard to find anything to say that hasn't already been said. The hotel was peaceful with lovely cool, dark quiet rooms which meant we slept really well and woke up refreshed and ready for breakfast, which was lovely and served in the cloisters, a perfect start to each day. The situation is ideal - only 5 minutes walk from the town centre yet very tranquil, and perfectly situated for exploring the historic area of the town. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We loved it here!
We stayed at this pousada, a former monastery, in June. We had a wonderful first impression as the receptionist could not have been more helpful, setting us up on a bird watching boat trip on the Rio Formosa and giving us wonderful suggestions and maps for our stay. Our room was fine and was immaculate. We very much appreciated the pool as it had been extremely hot in the Alentejo, where we had come from. It was lovely eating dinner and breakfast outside in the courtyard with a view of the cloisters. The food, while not memorable, was fine, and the service was good. The hotel was perfectly located next to the castle ruins and important churches. I would very much recommend this hotel.
It's always so difficult to write a review about a really good hotel. All of the compliments have been paid, all of the platitudes have been used, so the reviews start to be repetitive. For us, when a hotel is clean and comfortable and meets all of our physical needs, we look to the staff to make our stay really memorable. And the staff at The Pousada de Tavira were all very special. We were lucky enough to meet the lovely Tiara on check-in. We have done quite a bit of traveling, but couldn't remember ever getting such a warm welcome and, every time we came in or out of the hotel, Tiara greeted us as though we were long-time friends (give this woman a raise!) A special thank you, too, to Fabio and Joao for being so kind and friendly. A big thank you to everyone at Pousada de Tavira for making our visit so memorable.
Lovely peaceful hotel in the historic part of Tavira. Breakfast could have been better but other than that it was a nice place. I would say the hotel and resort is most suitable for adults seeking a nice relaxing holiday.
I am going to give this hotel four stars instead of five because the staff in the dining room need so much training. There was one poor guy who knew what he was doing and he was overwhelmed. The food when we finally got it was just so so and not hot. It took almost two hours to get it. The night we were there two tables of people actually walked out--locals--they were starving. We thought of walking out as did everyone else who was waiting........but we were staying at the hotel and just arrived and didn't know what to do. The wait staff could not even figure out to bring people water and some bread. I literally went to my room to get my water bottle I was so parched. Everyone was complaining. We would have left too but by then it was so late and we were there off season and everything was probably closed. I wanted to get up and start making food and bringing it out to people. It's such a shame because the front desk staff were excellent and the location is perfect and while small, very small rooms, the hotel is lovely--a restored convent with fountains tinkling in the background. Breakfast buffet the next morning was fine-- nothing to write homie about-- but again the wait staff did not seem to want to work. Have no idea what is going on with this place-- not up to Pestana standards. When we mentioned it to the morning manager she did not seem interested. Bizarre. We had nice massages but room is located across from the restrooms with big banging doors and at the end of the pool. Not a good location for a quiet massage. Masseus was excellent. Pool was lovely--bet it's great when weather warms up.
We stayed a couple of nights at the hotel. It was quiet and restful and very close to the bus station so we could easily walk there. You can see part of the ruins of the old city walls of Tavira right at the pool. The location was lovely--right next to a beautiful church and old castle gardens and a very short walk to the Roman Bridge. The beds were comfortable and breakfast was good. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only thing we didn't like was the price of dinner there, far greater than it should be. We ate in local close by restaurants.
Wonderful hotel we have never been it such a calm and relaxing place ever .The staff are lovely kind and pleasant our room was the standard one but it was fine .restaurant was very good thank you for a great holiday in lovely Tavira
The Pousada Hotel in Tavira is a rebuilt monastery with up to date facilities including a very nice swimmingpool. The rooms are quite spacious and includes all necessary items such as safe, TV etc. The beds are very comfortable. Breakfast is plentiful and fresh. All personell are very friendly and really helpful. You feel welcome!!
Had a wander ‘round hotel…booked lunch…wandered around Tavira, saw Camera Obscura, Roman Bridge and Islamic museum and back for prawns/octopus/seafood cataplana/think sea bream? All washed down with a nice vino verde…staff lovely…relaxed…old convent, so nice to eat outside...under the arches...with water trickling nearby...very pleasant.
We stayed for a few days to mark a special date and were bowled over by the architecture, the friendliness and efficiency of the staff, the cleanliness, the food and the general ambiance. We stayed in a superior room and had a balcony looking out over the town. The room was a good size, with plenty of storage and a very nice marble bathroom. The building has a rich history and the central courtyard is a very special place. We ate our breakfast there every day and it was a delight to see the bright blue sky contrasting with the rich orange of the walls. The breakfasts were excellent and the local oranges taste so much better than any available in the UK. The staff were incredibly helpful and volunteered information on all the sites and the best places to eat. We plan to return with more of our family.
