Five of us stayed in three of these apartments in August for my dad’s 60th. The apartments were all different, with one being much more outdated than the other two (and with a leaking boiler) but the other two were modern, clean and included all utilities. The restaurants on site were lovely for lunch. We chose to walk to the marina each day for evening meals. We only used the main pool during our stay, and for two weeks in peak season we always managed to get a sun lounger.
Stayed in a two bedroom apartment with a large private roof terrace. The Old Village has everything you need during your holiday - swimming pools, restaurants and beautiful gardens, bakery, little supermarket and is also available for weddings!
just returned from a long weekend break.Have been to the old village a dozen times and it just gets better.Booked room with o.v.through on the beach, double room with terrace everything we needed comfy bed nice clean kitchen tv with sky wifi etc.,Lovely bars restaurants small shop with friendly staff not too expensive on site short walk to marina will be returning in july.
My wife and I stayed at the old village recently. #18a Village St. 1 bed apartment. We arrived late at night so we had to get our keys from the security guard who was quite prompt. We dropped our baggage off and went to get a bite to eat. Next day we got all the info we needed for the remainder of our stay. You get a card for the pool gates at reception (€20) fully refundable and the sunbeds are €3 for the full day. Sometimes the pool guy didn't even collect the money which was a pleasant bonus. The surrounding area is beautiful and well maintained. Approximately 20 mins walk to the marina. We only ate in any of the restaurants at the old village once (Casa do Largo) on the first night and wasn't impressed. I asked for a rare cooked sirloin with peppered sauce and was given a very well cooked piece meat that tasted like a Wellington boot. That's why I give a rating of 4. Other than that the bakery was nice especially the Portuguese tarts and the Supermarket was pretty well stocked. All members of staff were very helpful and pleasant. I would definitely recommend this complex and I will return soon.
This is our second time here. We love the peaceful location, the restaurants in the resort are exceptional and the setting is beautiful. We initially booked a studio however, didn't realise that there would be no balcony or terrace. When we stayed there in 2016 we had a roof terrace. Once shown to our studio the room was stunning but as the weather was so hot somewhere outside to spend time was important to us. We went back to reception to ask and they offered us an upgrade. A two bed apartment for an additional €190 (in cash). We was shown the room before we agreed so it was our choice. It was perfect for us so took it. A lesson for me next time not to book a studio and add a request or email them to ensure we have outside space. Despite being almost full there was pure silence at night and sitting around on the terrace or one of the bars was so relaxing. We found that we didn't want to go down the marina (except to visit Akvavit) as there was enough to do on site for the 5 days we was there. Le Rondez Vous restaurant was impeccable yet again. There's a bar open until 1am if you want a lateish one. There's a stunning rooftop bar above le rondez vouz open until midnight. Happy hours at most bars between 4 and 8 pm. There are 3 pools. One is pretty small and we didn't use. The main pool is the biggest and offers a pool bar with snacks. We preferred the dolphin pool. Nice and quiet. The pool bar is open to non guests between 9am and midnight. You will need a card to enter any of the pools, this is €20 which you get back on check out. Sun loungers are €1.50 per half day per person (between either 9am and 2pm or 2pm and 7pm) or €3 all day. They're very comfy. The pools however, are freezing cold. Even with the sun baking them all day. I couldn't bring myself to get in. There's no point advising what the rooms are like as they are mostly privately owned and therefore decorated to individual taste. The walk to the marina took us 15 minutes. Taxi transfer from Faro was 20 minutes. Cannot wait to stay here again. Perfect. We'll never stay down the marina again.
Good stuff first Apartment was clean with decent kitchen and ok bathroom What made me rate as 2 stars 1 - out of 18 light bulbs in whole apartment there were 7 not working (2 were bedside lamps , 1 of which has very loose bulb fixing - it turned out if you shook the bulb and the wiring it would sometimes work) 2 - above was reported to office who very efficiently arranged for maintenance to visit - I was therefore very surprised to find 5 lights still not working 3 - this made me a bit annoyed so I visited office with some additional frustrations 4 - there were know breakfast bowls 5 - there was only 2 plates 6 - the tall light in living room that did not work wobbled about unsafely 7 - the cooking utensils were rubbish with several missing As I own retail businesses I realise that shouting or moaning does not get the best results therefore I believed I put forward my points in a constructive manner - I therefore found it quite frustrating to get response laced with justification and excuses - all I needed was a reply along lines of - sorry to hear you are not happy, let me get that fixed for you I did get most of items fixed - cooking utensils were ignored and light was simply removed leaving lounge area gloomily dark in the evening - I did give up at this point as I was on holiday to relax I was informed the flat had been recently decorated with new kitchen and flooring which looked to be the case. If they had only spent an extra €2-300 on all the little stuff I would have been writing a 5 star review
I stayed here with a group of friends and had a very lovely stay. The apartments are owned individually so I guess it's just luck as to the standard you get but our three bedroom apartment was to a very high standard. It was also a nice surprise to get a huge roof terrace with a table and chairs and sun loungers (although not enough for the whole party) which was fantastic for sitting out to have a drink before we headed out on a night. The only downside of our apartment was that it was directly over one of the restaurants/bars so on our first night it was very noisy until the early hours of the morning and I didn't get much sleep. It didn't bother us for the other nights as we came home after it had closed. The complex itself is very cute! A great location, just a short taxi ride to the marina. We didn't try to walk! We also caught the little train that runs every hour and goes past the front of the apartments down to the marina. However I wouldn't recommend this unless you have lots of time to spare as it took absolutely ages! We couldn't believe how short the taxi ride was in comparison! There is everything you need within the 'village' a few different restaurants/bars, a bakery (which was fab to get fresh croissants for our breakfast) and a pool bar. The little pizza restaurant was gorgeous, selling freshly made pizzas and focaccia bread! You have to pay for the sunbeds but we knew this before we went so it didn't bother us. The pool area is quite small but we always managed to get five sunbeds together each day. The whole place is well kept and spotlessly clean and I would be happy to return again if I came back to Portugal. It would also be perfect for young children as it's all pedestrianised. The apartment management were also very helpful and arranged a late check out for us and airport transfer.
Second visit here. Apartment a bit shabbier than last year but it was fine as a base. One criticism is the prices in some of the on site bars. €13 for a jacket potato seriously! There's one place on its own on site which was much better value for breakfast etc so make sure you hunt that one down!
We booked a two bedroomed apartment for myself, my sister and our friend to stay at. The apartment was absolutely amazing for a self catering and the amenities were great. The pool areas were clean and big enough for the time of year. I suspect they might be very busy in the height of the summer season though. Great stay, would definitely recommend to others!
I have just returned from my 4th and last visit to the Old Village Apartments, it's been quite a number of years since my last visit and there have been a number of changes not for the better I may add. 1) No maid service in the week we were there, no bedding or towel changes, no removing of rubbish, no cleaning, in fact we found a very dusty child's toy under the sofa in the lounge, we had to wash the very grubby towels which had seen better days on a daily basis. I have been travelling to Portugal for many many years and for the very first time encountered a cockroach in the bedroom. 2) Despite me asking for an upgrade stating the apartment wasn't suitable for 4 adults I was told that all 2 bedroomed apartments were the same size which is not true as I have stayed in a much bigger one in the past. 3) Electronic gates to access pool areas, if you were lucky your card opened the gates otherwise you were reliant on other guest letting you in. 4) The main pool area was never cleaned in the week we stayed...and there is now a charge to use the sunbeds..€1.50 for the morning and a further €1.50 for the afternoon Such a shame that standards have slipped in these areas the grounds are beautiful and the restraunts are just as good in particular The Casa de Largo
