Just returned from a week stay at oura praia, very impressed! Check-in very quick and straightforward, given in nice apartment with a pool view. The apartment was clean, spacious and well equipped, cleaned and towels replaced every other day! Only down side was that the bar and restaurant weren't open, but that wasn't a problem as loads of great bars and restaurants close by and supermarket right next door! Would definitely stay here again!
My husband and I stayed here in May 2017 and could not fault one thing. We loved it so much, we once again booked a deluxe room (with pool/side sea view again) for Sept/Oct 2017, with a request for a pool view if possible. Upon arrival/check in, we discovered we'd been upgraded to a one bedroomed apartment on the second floor! How kind! We were absolutely delighted - but sadly, not for long. The view we had was of the road, the shops, apartments opposite, AND the outside terrace of the Hangover Bar. Yes, the room, as lovely as it was, was directly ABOVE the Hangover Bar! No thank you! We went straight back to reception, thanked them for the free upgrade but explained, (without wanting to appear ungrateful) because of where the room was, we did not want it. We also reminded them that we had booked a room with a pool/side sea view. Staff did the best they could to accomodate us and we were given a superior one bedroomed apartment on the 6th floor with side sea views. The room was marvellous, with some lovely views, and even though it also looked out onto a main road, was very quiet indeed. Good times! As I have limited walking abilities (due to disablement) when going out in May I always used the exit next to the Hangover Bar. It is a much shorter distance to get where I want to go, there is a ramp which cuts out the need to use the (two or three) steps and it also meant bypassing quite a sharp/steep corner. (In fact, the exit by the Hangover Bar was extremely popular with many, many clients of the hotel including the elderly, infirm, parents with prams, pushchairs etc.) This time, the exit was permanently closed. We queried this at reception, only to be told that it was a management decision. No further explanation was given, regardless of how many different staff members we asked. Using that exit in the past, one had to scan ones hotel card, it wasn't a free for all, so we and many others were both confused and VERY disappointed the facility was no longer available to any of us, and that we'd not been forewarned when booking or at the very least, when we checked in. In order to bypass the main exit and the sharp/steep corner, many people, including myself, had to walk down the side of the restaurant and (IF the restaurant staff had unlocked the gates) down maybe six or seven steps. That might not sound like a big deal, but when you walk with aids/have difficulty walking/are pushing a pram, wheelchair etc, those steps are a HUGE deal. I'm pretty sure the restaurant staff weren't too happy with people walking through, and I know for a fact their customers weren't - I heard quite a few complaining. Not being able to use that exit was the only negative of our stay at Hotel Oura Praia. Everything else, room, facilities, staff, everything - brilliant. I hope that exit will be available to hotel clients again in future.
We had a small flat overlooking the pool. It was clean and ideal for 5 days. The staff were very friendly and the hotel was quiet. There was no restaurant available in November but we were in a road full of them. The Strip is just around the corner. The hotel is close to several bus stops taking trips across the Algarve. Taxi into the old town was 5 euros. The pool was available, but probably for the most hardy souls! We loved the décor, the fountain and the aptly named bar, the Hangover. We would love to stay there again.
First of all in our opinion all the reception staff did and do a fantastic job it costs nothing to be polite and have manners 🙂 we found cristiano to be the best 👋 (and his boss) the hotel is in a perfect position ,with bars ,restaurants ,taxis ,bus stop and a supermarket extremely close .there is a hotel bus than runs to the old town but I think it is in peak season only ? We walked to the old town in 30 mins as long as you don't stop off for a pit stop 🍻 (like we did ) the strip is only 5/10mins walk away .the room we had over looked the pool so got sun all day 😎 room was clean and large for two people ,plus wifi was ok no problems at all 👍overall we would recommend this hotel to couples ,families thank you once again see you in March as we have rebooked again ,cheers from Walt and Vanessa x
Well of all the many hotels I have stayed in my life I can safely say that this is probably the worst. Check in was curt and abrupt (guy with a moustache) no smile, curt attitude. There was another two women checking in just before me and he was extremely rude and condescending to them. Not a good start... the overall decor is old fashioned and dated. The apartment was large and spacious but again very dated - I also drew the short straw of being placed at the side over the bars and wow what a racket! loud and booming until 4am even though I had requested a quiet room. Check out was equally shocking - I checked out at around 4am in the morning due to an early flight and the young guy on reception was equally as abrupt and curt, again no eye contact or an attempt to smile or ask if I had enjoyed my stay, nothing. I can only say Ive never met reception staff like it! - would I be back? never ever, was glad to leave - hospitality lessons definitely needed
hotel very clean pool so clean and prestine staff friendly rooms have plenty of space and air con restaurant was lovely food all around this hotel plenty of entertainment and eatery the strip just comes alive at night
We've stayed at this hotel for two weeks and at first it looked like a reasonable hotel . Location is fairly good . Close to a decent supermarket , Intermarché. And a bit further Spar , also good for daily shopping . Lots of restaurants of various quality around the hotel. 10 minute walk from the beach . So far so good . We were given a room at poolside , and then in the evening you realize that this is not a good idea . Ok the sunset in the evening is nice. But soon after that the British Karaoke entertainer starts his show at max volume for a handful of guest having diner at the restaurant next to the pool . No escaping from the gettoblaster until midnight . In the daytime there is a nice pool to relax , if you are lucky enough not to be ' entertained' by screaming Russians chasing British girls . I had hoped the the 'place your towel at 7:30 am and return at 10:00' routine would be over , but unfortunately everyday thete were people who were affraid they might get another spot at the pool than the one spot which they claimed every day at 07:30 am. The hotel gives itself 4 ( Indian) stars ( the owner is Mr. Muthu) but in the Western world this hotel should be glad with three stars at most . The rooms a spacious but need a pimp job to justify the 4 star rating . The bathroom is old fashioned , the kitchetette very basic and the couch is not wide enough to sit on . The matrasses on the beds are very hard, giving you a uncomfortable stiffness in the morning . All together a disappointing stay at what received an 8.2 on Another travel review site. But I guess most teavellers haven't been to other countries to make a good comparison . The service was very good though. And the cleaning was perfect . On the other hand if you like all the things that we don't , this is the hotel for you . Lively and full of attractions .Maybe I should try a quieter hotel next time I'm in Albefeira .
MGM Muthu We were placed here on a 4 star all inclusive deal. However be warned , all inclusive doesnt mean all inclusive (AI). No bottled water, beach towels, drinks back to room, imported drinks, no snacks between meals the list goes on....and this place is probably 2 1/2 stars at best. Our breakfast was a buffet, got some hot water for my tea bag which was not clear but coloured, tinted or even dirty from the machine , didn't risk it , cold bacon, spicy style continental sausages, beans were awful looking, certainly didn't have the courage for the scrambled egg which was awfully bright in colour so didn't want to risk it again. Only managed to risk toast and a boiled egg and a hot chocolate. Lunch was very dissapointing, very small selection of turkey, pork slices with chips, and again Luke warm or cooling very quickly. Paper or plastic cups all the way .No show cooking at all, I strongly suspect good is cooked then frozen straight way and reheated on day of serving. No telling how old the food is. Add to that other numerous issues such as doors not locking properly and no wifi in the room at all. I was very tempted to try and find some where else to stay , an all inclusive restaurant with decent chef prepared food. This is my second day by the way and seriously not impressed. Every visit to the dining area is a 500m walk to an adjoining hotel passing the modern bar, pool and pool bar none of which are part of the AI deal I get the feeling from the atmosphere and attitude of the staff that things are either closing down or there are financial issues affecting this hotel. I've stayed in Vila Gale in Amacao de Pera down the coast, and Lord Nelson in Menorca both 4 Star AI, The food and service at both was sublime so pardon me if This review reads as snobbish but I paid even more for Muthu and end up really disappointed. I'm still here and now given up on the food which is always cold when served from buffet bar, still no internet in my room, and charges for everything outside your all inclusive such as towels, cocktails, ice cream and most of the drinks. If you want all inclusive strongly recommend not booking any of this chain's rooms. Don't be fooled by JACs restaurant glossy brochures, it's the same again. Paid a lot of money for this All inclusive , very disappointed, wish I'd paid more for somewhere I know is good with quality standards. Will I be coming back here again? What do you think
This Hotel is close to the beach, many restaurants and the Strip for the more lively. It offers a free bus to and from the Old Town or you could walk it which takes about 30 mins. We downloaded Uber which offers a great cheap service. The Hotel is spotless with a lovely pool area and spacious rooms. The cleaning ladies do a marvellous job they are friendly and always greet you with a smile. Reception staff just ok and the pool bar attendant lets the pool area down unfortunately. With a little more customer service and a smile now and again I would rate this Hotel higher
This is our third visit to the hotel and again we were not disappointed. We did have an issue with our room (not going into detail) but as expected the fantastic reception staff sorted it and offered us another room the next day - brilliant. The pool area as always very clean and no sunbed charge early mornings. Maid service very good. The only issue I now have is that the prices are getting very expensive to stay here. I paid £700 for 8 nights and with flights was nearing on £1300 for self catering. We had a week all inclusive in Turkey (July 5 star for £575pp) The décor in the rooms do need updating but it did not spoil our stay as we were hardly in the room. It has a great location and you never here any noise from some of the bars nearby. I would love to come back again but it will depend how much these cost next year.
