We stayed for two nights with family in three very spacious and comfortable rooms. The environment is very peaceful and energizing! All the outer space is very nice and kept to the promenor. The breakfast and dinner was excellent. We can highlight the fruits, eggs and other foods, very tasty and fresh, produced on the farm. For those who have children, there is an opportunity to pick up the eggs, feed the animals and perform typical farmhouse tasks.
This was our first visit to teh Algarve .We chose this hotel because it had excellent reviews and was away from the more touristy coast . Only 25 rooms and what nice large rooms they were , with the upper ones having lovely balconies overlooking the impressive view of the hills down to the sea and the lower ones opening onto the lovely garden. The grounds were beautifully planted and maintained , lovely to walk around and enjoy the many quiet shaded seating areas to read and enjoy the views . We had no hire car so were reliant on buses and taxis , if we returned we would definitely have a car as the bus is infrequent -only two a day and none at weekends although cheap ,as are taxis - about fifteen euros to Tavira ,but it would make getting about easier . If you want a lively time this is not the hotel for you ,there is no nightlife or rowdy bar but the absolute peace and quiet suited us very well . We only dined in on one evening and enjoyed a lovely Portuguese meal in the dining room which overlooks the countryside . Generous buffet breakfast also served in the dining room , freshly squeezed orange juice ,ham and cheese , scrambled eggs , bacon fresh fruit , cereals and Portuguese pastries etc filled us up for the day . The pool area was lovely, nice warm pool and jacuzzi with plenty of seating around .The only minor negative , and this is not the hotels fault at all ,is the barking dog in the neighbouring property , can someone have a word with the owner please ! All in all a lovely first experience of the Algarve and highly recommended .
Great hotel with a friendly staff and excellent restaurant. We ended up eating there two nights. Hotel is quiet but still close to beaches and town. Overall this was a great experience...only wish it had been longer!
A very quiet and peaceful hotel set in the hills above Tavira, on the Algarve. Overall, it was a pleasure to visit and we stayed for 4 nights. The location is quiet and was easy to find, even in the middle of the night. Staff all very eager to please and happy to assist whenever required. Our shower was not properly fixed to the wall on arrival but this was quickly sorted the next day when help was requested. Fridge in the room but empty and the water was not replenished. However, the food was excellent although slow to arrive - we had to wait about an hour each time. The swimming pool and gardens were impressive and well tended. Apparently the hotel will be undergoing refurbishment in the winter with the restaurant changing places with the reception/bar area. This will improve the overall ambience of the hotel as it seemed to lack a central core.
We stayed in this hotel for three nights and can only praise the staff and owner for being able to maintain an authentic atmosphere while providing guests with modern and high level confort standards. We were thrilled to participate to local traditions with Algarve farmers and to the lunch offered by the owner for this occasion. Children also had a wonderful time between the orchard, the hens, the donkey and the swiming pool! Dinners and breakfast were also amazing: I wish I had the recepies of the delicious fruits marmelade served every morning.
My husband and I were looking for a weeks break away somewhere a bit special without breaking the bank and wow did we find it! From the moment we arrived at the hotel nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful bedroom and bathroom with balcony overlooking amazing scenery. Fabulous breakfasts - so fresh and a great choice of produce. You could help yourself. Great value pool bar with a very laid-back feel. We ate in the hotel 5 nights enjoying gorgeous Portuguese dishes of which there was plenty to choose from. Very high standard of main course with excellent wine list which offered a wide range of Portuguese wines from different regions which we found to be very affordable - sadly much more expensive to buy here back in U.K. The pool was immaculate as were the extensive grounds. Every member of staff was extremely friendly and professional - congratulations to the owners who have a winning formula.
There are no words to express the emotions, the truly kindness, the sound of silence, the joy, the amazing views, the staff, the food. Everything here is made with truly love, with passion. Words are never enough when it's time to go home and you feel at home. Thank you all for this amazing experience. I'll see you soon. With a lot of love, from three.
This 4* hotel is set in the countryside just outside of Santa Catarina. If you want a relaxing environment this is certainly the place to stay and don't expect bars, restaurants etc on your doorstep. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms (less than 30 of them) are spotlessly clean, light and spacious. Each room has a balcony, view of the pool and looks out for miles over countryside. Breakfast is a healthy affair of locally produced cheeses, eggs, tomatoes, yoghurt, berries, nuts, fresh bread, jams etc. I would say this is sourced from the hotel grounds. The hotel has free roaming chickens (they have their own space within the grounds) a large veg patch, fruit trees and bushes and several goats (ie for the cheeses). We ate dinner at the hotel each evening and the evening meal was equally good quality as were the bar prices. A full menu can be found on the hotel website, it's worth a look because the site provides a fair representation of what this hotel is like. The landscaped gardens contain many different species of flowers, trees and bushes which are labelled, some of which are quite unusual. Around each corner there is something new to see ie hammock chairs set away in one part of the garden. The swimming pool is lovely and the sun loungers quite comfortable (more comfortable than most I've experienced anyway)! There is also an outdoor gym, hidden away from main view, but looking out over the hills. Anyway, when you feel like a pace of life, Tavira, Fuseta, Olhao, Ria Formosa, Sao Bras etc - loads of lovely places can all easily be accessed by car. To sum up, we both loved it at the Hotel Rural and will return. It was excellent value for money, very restful and there are more good things I could add, just ask if you would like more info.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Stunning location with wonderful views from just about everywhere. The grounds were exceptional with seating areas dotted about perfectly placed to soak up the views. Breakfast included which was delicious, with fresh eggs and produce from the holding. Perfect for a completely relaxing break. All areas kept very clean.
For previous beach-type holidays we have always stayed at locations close to the coast. This time we decided to try going inland and chose the Quinta do Marco. This was also our first trip to Portugal and the Algarve. It was a fantastic choice and we will certainly be going back! The beautiful, very peaceful location was wonderful - sitting in the sun just listening to birds singing, overlooking the local countryside, with beautifully maintained gardens around the property. There are a number of small paths around the gardens which had little sitting areas to admire far-reaching views of countryside to the coast. Thoughtfully, many plants and trees around the property had labels describing what they were. The pool area was immaculately kept - as was the rest of the property - the water warm and clean. Temperatures were very hot on our week at the hotel, so we took many dips in the pool to cool off, while taking in drinks and freshly-prepared snacks at the poolside bar area. The bedrooms were very spacious and well appointed. As with the rest of the hotel everything was cleaned to a high standard with fresh linen and towels supplied every single day. All the staff were a credit to the hotel - extremely friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much bother, every request delivered with smile and "you are welcome", which always felt very genuine. Well done on attracting such lovely staff Helder! We ventured out a few times throughout the week... We can highly recommend taking a visit to Barril Beach (part of Tavira Island) which was in a beautiful location. We also visited Tavira Island beach, which I believe, while beautiful is more suitable for people who prefer a beach with a bit of a 'buzz' with many restaurants and beach bars. This beach is reached by a ferry cost 4€ return trip from Tavira town. If you prefer a more quiet beach visit then the quieter, well-kept Barril Beach is definitely the place to go. It also has good facilities to eat and drink, etc. There is a land train which will transport you to the beach if the 1.5km walk is too far for some. We also ate out in Tavira town and Alportel, and while very good we always felt the food at Quinta do Marco would take some beating! The restaurant at Quinta do Marco was excellent and can be highly recommended. Even if you are not staying there it is well worth the visit - make sure you book though. Between us both, we tried many of their dishes throughout the week and can recommend all. The breakfasts were also wonderful with freshly squeezed orange juice from trees in the gardens. I don't think we have ever eaten so healthily and yet had so much great tasting food, much of which, I believe, locally sourced. As you may be able to tell we were completely bowled over by this wonderful hotel, quite different to where we have normally visited. As mentioned already, we will definitely be going back when it is cooler to take in walks and cycle rides in the local countryside, having only managed one local walk due to the unusually hot weather. We would highly recommend you have a car if staying at the hotel as it is off the beaten track, although still only 15 minutes from the coast and Tavira town. Highly recommended for something different to a beach or town hotel holiday.
